1 Scope and purpose

This standard contains dimensions and requirements as well as data for the ordering and marking of hoses
with one or two textile liner(s) for the low pressure range Type N1. Hoses of this type are used for
a continuous temperature of -40 to +100°C and a maximum temperature of 125°C as
- hose pipes in the compressed-air system (10 bar) of commercial vehicles
- hose pipes (return line) in hydraulic systems
- oil pipes on engines and transmissions.
Prolonged exposure to the maximum temperatures is likely to reduce service life.
These hoses are not suitable for applications where a flow medium passes through the hose continuously
(e.g. engine oil sump).
The multi-purpose hoses are in general supplied without wire coils. If hoses with wire coil liners are needed
to stabilise the cross section, this shall be stated in the standard designation (see Section 2). In suction
lines, i.e. at operating vacuums of up to 0,06 bar, a wire coil liner is required as from nominal diameter 32
(with “W” specified in the standard designation).
This standard does not apply to hose pipes in fuel systems on the basis of FAME (fatty acid methyl ester
according to DIN EN 14214), such as plant methyl ester (PME) and RME/diesel fuel mixtures with the
exception of filler hoses, ventilation hoses without constant contact with media at continuous temperatures
up to a maximum of 70°C (maximum temperature 80°C).

2 Release conditions
All parts of MAN 239 standards apply. In these standards the release conditions and procedures as well
as the general terms of delivery for purchased parts are laid down.
The MAN department EOMC at the Nuremberg works is responsible for the material inspection, material
release and for providing information.

1 These nominal diameters are not included in DIN EN ISO 6708 and shall be avoided in new designs.
2 Maximum permissible wall thickness difference in the vertical cross section.
3 For return lines DN 15, wall thickness 3,5 mm is permissible as an alternative.
4 The version with wire coil is only required for multi-purpose hoses as from nominal diameter 32 which are used in suction lines (i.e. with
an operating vacuum of up to 0,06 bar).

For multi-purpose hoses in hose pipes supplied by the manufacturer in ready-assembled condition, the following
additional (deviating) requirements apply:
- As from nominal diameter 12, the versions with or without wire coil are permissible as alternatives
- Where the requirements according to Section 3 of this standard are fulfilled, internal and external diameters or
wall thicknesses are permissible that deviate from the specifications in Table 1 by a maximum of 20% for d1, d2
and a maximum of 30% for s1.
- Permissible length deviation ±2%

4 Requirements

4.1 Requirements for the material properties of the internal and external layer
Internal layer according to MAN 302 – NBR 5-70, external layer according to MAN 304 – CR 7-70

4.2 Requirements for the textile liners

The material of the textile liners is at the manufacturer's discretion.
The type of textile liner is agreed in connection with the material and development release (e.g. fibre type, yarn
type, weave structure, structure of the braiding or knitted fabric) and is to be stated in the initial sample inspec-
tion report within the framework of the initial sample release according to CVS10.

4.3 Requirements for the hose

The hoses shall comply with the requirements according to Table 2.

5 Item labelling
Item labelling of the hoses shall take place in accordance with MAN 312-1.
Hoses shall be marked continuously and permanently with the details in accordance with Section 4.4, Table 1 of
MAN 312-1 and additionally with the following information:
- Number of this MAN company standard “MAN 333”
- Hose type: N1 (without wire coil) or N1W (with wire coil)
- Nominal diameter in accordance with Table 1, e.g. 32
Spacing between the marking blocks is permitted. The marking block shall be present at least once on hose
assemblies.

6 Storage

6.1 Storage conditions

The guidelines in DIN EN ISO 8331 apply for the correct storage of hoses according to this standard.

6.2 Permissible storage periods

The maximum permissible storage times for hoses according to this standard are specified in VG 95924-2.
The hoses shall fully comply with the requirements according to Table 2 of this standard following the storage
periods laid down in VG 95924‑2.
