you want to stand out in a crowd,
Gigi’s bucket hat is just the ticket.

Superwash Aran
(100% Wool;
150 yards/137 m)

MATERIALS
• 2 US 7 (4.5mm)
16”/40cm (circ) needle
• One stitch marker
• Tapestry Needle
GAUGE
4.5 sts = 1”/2.5cm
SIZE
One size fits most adults,
but easily adjustable up or
down by changing needle
size and/or yarn.

Directions
With scrap yarn and using your favorite
provisional cast on method, cast on 96 sts
Change to MC.
1. Knit 1 row
2. Being careful not to twist sts, join to knit
in round. Knit 3, KFB *, repeat to end of
round – 24 sts inc’d, 120 sts on the needle
3. K 1 Round
4. Repeat Row 3 twelve more times
5. Purl 1 Round
6. Knit 13 Rounds
7. K3, K2tog
8. While removing provisional cast on, slip
row 1 stitches onto 2nd size 7 needle
9. Fold brim, wrong sides together
10. Starting at beginning of round, knit 1 from
front needle & 1 from back needle together
to end of round. You are now back to 96
sts on one US 7 needle
11. Place marker
12. Continue knitting in the round until body
of hat is 4.5 inches
(approximately 23 rows)
13. Begin decreases - K6, K2tog
14. K 1 Round
15. K5, K2tog
16. K 1 Round
17. K4, K2tog
18. K 1 Round
19. K3, K2tog
20. K 1 Round
21. K2, K2tog
22. K 1 Round
23. K1, K2tog
24. Knit 1 Round
25. K2tog to end
26. Knit 1 Round
27. K2tog to end
28. Break yarn, with tapestry needle sew through 8 remaining stitches and pull tight.
29. Sew in ends.
30. Block lightly.
31. Add crochet detail at first 96 st round at beginning of body of hat, if desired (directions supplied in
the Margot Hat pattern)
For a shallower brim, omit knit rounds in between decrease rows
