How I make my
FUZZY CROCHET BALACLAVA
___
By Breanne Greenfield
INTRODUCTION
If you live in Canada sometimes winter hats just aren’t enough to get you through the long cold
winter, it usually calls for some thick, fuzzy attire ! Basic balaclavas just weren’t doing it for me
this year, so determined to make the perfect winter solution, I decided to pull out my favorite
fuzzy yarn and get to work. After plenty of late nights of planning, crocheting, typing & testing,
I came up with this lovely pattern for you to work up yourselves and I can’t wait to see all of
your lovely human beans fuzzy balaclava creations- and how you decide to add a lil spice to it !!
Thank you so much for purchasing my pattern and supporting my independent small business !
I cannot wait to see what you make using my first pattern !! Please tag me in any photos or
videos you post (@AddALilSpiceCreations on Instagram and Tiktok), not only does it show
respect to me as a designer but seeing your very own custom balaclava creation is one of the
most exciting parts of making a pattern !! This pattern CANNOT be sold or distributed, and you
also cannot make a youtube or tiktok "inspired by" or similar to this pattern- feel free to make a
video of the final product but not the overall pattern please, as I worked hard to create this. :)

LET’S ADD A LIL SPICE
For The Bear Ears:
Row 1:
Ch 3, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, turn. ( 4 sc )
Row 2:
Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st as ch 1, 2 sc in the remaining 3 sts, fasten off with a 15-inch tail for
sewing. (8sc)
Attatching The Ears:
Thread the long tail along the ears and run your needle in and out through the straight base of
the ear, pull to cinch ( See pictures below ). The tighter you pull, the smaller your ears will look.
Repeat with the other ear.
Run your needle in and out through the straight base of the ear ( I’m using a crochet hook here
just for the example because the yarn was too fluffy for my needle to show up in the picture ).
                                                                                                   8
Fold the hat in half and place both of the ears along the sides of the hat and find the position
you like best ( For reference, I put mine in between rows 5-7, 11 stitches apart ). Sew them along
the fold of the hat on either side.
For The Cat Ears:
Row 1:
Ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next 4 stitches, turn. ( 4 sc )
Row 2:
Ch 1, 1 dec in the same st as ch 1, 2 sc in the remaining 2 stitches. ( 3 sc )
Row 3:
Ch 1, 1 dec in the same st as ch 1, 1 sc in the remaining stitch. ( 2 sc )
Row 4:
Ch 1, 1 dec in the same st as ch 1, 1 sc in the remaining stitch. Fasten off with a 15-inch tail for
sewing. ( 1 sc )
Fold the hat in half and place both of the ears along the sides of the hat and find the position
you like best . Sew them along the fold of the hat on either side.
For The Bunny Ears:
Row 1:
Ch 28 ( Or desired length of your bunny ears ) ( 28 sc )
Row 2:
In the 3rd chain from your hook hdc 1, hdc 21. Dc until your last st, place 4dc in your last st DO
NOT CHAIN, DO NOT TURN.
                                                                                                   9
Just like in row 12 of the balaclava, we will be working in the back loops of the stiches/chains
from the first row. Dc 3. Hdc 21. Fasten off. Leave a 15” tail for sewing.
Fold the hat in half and place both of the ears along the sides of the hat and find the position
you like best . Sew them along the fold of the hat on either side.
Finishing:
Make sure you read the pattern notes given at the beginning of the pattern and then weave in
any tails left.
