                                                                        enjoy the process!
      Stay Comfy & Cozy :
Tips on staying comfy and cozy while you crochet this project. Tight tension is
recommended. So a tension ring can do wonders for your index finger! There are
a variety of tension rings, but I’ve found the most helpful has been the
Norwegian knitting thimble design, It looks like this! I find others tend to slip, or
still rub on your finger through friction.
             Creating a Swatch
This swatch is your test run! I also recommend throwing a test
swatch in the washer if you intend to wash your project. You will
never regret the time you take to get to know your yarn. Think of
how long you will mourn frogging an entire pillow! No fun!
To Begin:
Start with a chain of 20 stitches.
Round 1:
1. Connect the two ends of the chain with a slip stitch to form a
ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
(we won’t be slip-stitching at the end of our rounds, we will work
continuously in a circle.)
Round 2:
2. Work 1 yu-yo sc in each stitch of round 1, working in a continuous
circle. (20 yu-yo sc in Total)
Rounds 3-10:
3. Repeat round 2 for rounds 3-10. Continuously working in each
round without stoping.
Finishing: Tip:
4. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Be very careful not to accidentally
                                                                         increase or decrease throughout
Now, you have a velvet yarn Mini pillow cover with a square grid of rounds 3-10! This will make the grid
10 x 10 when laying flat! :D So Small and cute. uneven! A natural slant is normal.
                                                                                   (See in Photo)
                    Pillow Grid
                 Once you’ve mastered the swatch,
you are ready to begin your Pillow Grid!
To Begin:
Start with a chain of 120 stitches.
Round 1:
1. Connect the two ends of the chain with a slip stitch to form a
ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
(we won’t be slip-stitching and chaining one at the end of our
rounds, we will work continuously in a circle.)
Rounds 2:
2. Work 1 yu-yo sc in each stitch of round 1 working in a circle.
(120 yu-yo sc in Total)
Round 3-60:
3. Repeat round 2 for rounds 3-60. Continuously working in each
round without stoping.
Finishing:
4. Fasten off! You now have a velvet yarn pillow cover with a grid
of 60 x 60 "yarn-under" stitches on each side. You’re ready for
the next steps!
Tip: It’s important to note there will always be slight
Be very careful not to accidentally increase or decrease natural slant to your project (see in photo) This will
throughout rounds 3-60! This may make the grid uneven for the be straightened out when we sew together the top &
next steps! Bottom! :)
               Cross Stitching Over Crochet
Congratulations on completing the crocheted pillow cover with a lush velvet yarn grid!!
With your sturdy base of yarn-under stitches, you're perfectly set up for the next phase
of the project: cross-stitching to bring a tapestry of pixelated chickens to life! :D
As we transition from crochet hook to tapestry needle, we'll be using the same velvet yarn
to create a seamless blend of texture and color. The plushness of velvet will add a depth
to your cross-stitch designs! Whether you're planning to add a splash of video game
nostalgia, floral elegance, or just wanna play around with pixel art, this technique will
                                         guide you!
In this next section, we will:
                    1. Secure your velvet yarn onto the tapestry needle.
2. Read and follow a cross-stitch graph over our crochet grid, using the stitches as your
                                            guides!
3. Finish off our design neatly, ensuring your cross-stitched artwork is as durable as it is
                                         beautiful! :)
Prepare your tapestry needle, select your hues, and let's stitch these little chicks into
                                       existence!
                      How to: The X-Stitch
To do a basic X stitch, start by threading your yarn through the
tapestry needle and securing it with a knot
1. Bring your needle up through the back of the bottom left corner of the square you're
working on (this will be point 1).
2. Then, insert the needle down through the top right corner of the same square (point 2),
pulling the thread through to make a diagonal stitch.
3. Next, bring the needle up again at the bottom right corner of the square (point 3), and
then insert it down through the top left corner. Repeat for each Square of the chart.

 Preparing the Pillow for Seaming:
 • Flip the project inside out so that the right sides of the crochet are
facing each other. This way, when you finish seaming and turn the pillow
right side out again, the seam will be on the inside and invisible from the
outside! :)
 • Align the edges of the crochet fabric that need to be seamed together,
making sure that the stitches on both sides match up.
 Starting the Invisible Seam:
  • Begin at one corner of the pillow edges.
  • Insert your needle through the first stitch on both the top and bottom
pieces, making sure the stitches are parallel to each other. This is often
the first loop or “V” of the stitches.
  • Pull the yarn all the way through until the tail end is snug against the
fabric, but be careful not to pull too tightly as this could bunch the fabric
or create a visible seam! D:
 Creating the Invisible Seam:
  • Move to the next set of parallel stitches directly across from the ones
you just sewed through.
  • Pull your needle and yarn through these second parallel stitches. As you
do so, do not pull the yarn all the way through this time.
  • Leave a small loop of yarn on the side of the fabric where the needle
emerges!
 • Now, bring your needle back through this loop of yarn before tightening.
 • Gently pull the yarn to close the seam. The goal is to tighten enough so
that the seam becomes invisible, but not so much that it puckers or
distorts the fabric. ;(
        Sewing Your Project Closed
Continuing the Seam:
  • Continue this process down the length of the open edge! Always
working from one set of parallel stitches to the next and securing
your yarn by passing the needle through the loop before tightening!
Finishing Off:
  • Once you reach the end of the seam, secure the yarn by making a
small knot or weaving in the end through the stitches on the inside to
hide it! (Sneaky) :O
  • Turn the pillow right side out through the opening that you've left
for this purpose
  • If you haven't already filled your pillow, do so now! <3
This method of creating an invisible seam is often used in crochet and
knitting to give a professional, finished look to handmade items! The
key is to work slowly and evenly! Making sure that each stitch is pulled
to the same tension to create a consistent and invisible seam. :)
              Finishing Your Project
Since the pillow can't be turned inside out again after stuffing, we will
adapt the technique to work from the outside.
Setting Up:
• Position the pillow so you can easily access the top edge where you
want to create the invisible seam.
• Line up the crochet stitches on both sides so they are parallel to
each other.
Beginning the Seam:
• Start at one corner of the top edge.
• Insert your needle from the inside to the outside of the pillow through
the top stitch of one side, making sure that the tail end of your yarn
remains on the inside of the pillow. This will conceal the yarn end once
you've finished.
Creating the Invisible Seam:
• Pull the needle through the corresponding stitch on the opposite side,
going from the outside of the pillow to the inside.
• Before you pull the yarn all the way through, leave a small loop on the
outside.
• Bring your needle through this loop and then pull to tighten, creating
the invisible seam.
Continuing the Seam:
• Move to the next set of stitches, repeating the process. Make sure to
maintain the tension so the seam remains invisible and the fabric
doesn't bunch up.
                 Finishing Your Project
Filling the Pillow:
• As you sew the seam closed, intermittently pause to add stuffing to the
pillow. This ensures that the pillow is filled evenly and maintains its shape.
• Continue seaming and stuffing until you reach the end of the edge.
Finishing Off:
• Once you reach the end, secure the yarn by weaving the end through the
inside stitches to hide it. (Sneaky) :O
• Adjust the stuffing as needed to ensure the pillow is fully and evenly
filled!
• Tuck in any loose ends or stray pieces of yarn to maintain the seamless
look.
This technique allows you to close the pillow with an invisible seam from the
outside, resulting in a neat finish! Right? Just like with the other sides,
the key is to work with care, keeping your stitches even and the tension
consistent! <3
As we bind off the final stitches of this journey, I sincerely hope that
you've found joy and enrichment in the process of bringing the Stardew
