About the pattern

The entirety of this pattern is done working in the round. The bag itself is not two halves sewn
together, rather, it will be made altogether in one piece. The majority of the bag is made without
fastening off [and with minimal sewing ;)]. The final sizes and amount of yarn used for both
products are subject to change depending on individual gauge. The numbers in parentheses at the
end of every row indicate how many stitches there should be in the complete row. I will be
referencing to the bigger one as Goose Bag and the smaller one as Goose Purse. Photos only
available for the Goose Bag version, but Goose Purse can refer to those same photos – just
understand it’ll be about half the size. You’re welcome to reach out with any questions at
katiedinschel@gmail.com. Feel free to be creative with the colors!!! PLEASE tag
@katieandacrochethook on Instagram with finished products – I wanna see :D !

Goose Bag

Body of bag:

With white, ch. 65

Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, 63 sc, 3 sc in last ch, flip over, 62 sc, inc, ss into that first st
(130)

(place stitch marker at first st to keep track if you’d like)

Row 2: ch 1, 64 sc, 3 sc in next st, 65 sc, 3 sc in next st, ss into first st of row (134)

Here's what it should look like so far!

Row 3: ch 1, 64 sc, inc in each of the next 3 sts, 65 sc, inc in each of the next 3 sts, ss into first st
of row (140)
Row 4: ch 1, 66 sc, inc in each of the next 3 sts, 68 sc, inc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sc, ss into
next st (146)

Now, start decreasing to form tail

Row 5: ch 1, 65 sc, 3 dec, 76 sc, ss (143)

Row 6: ch 1, 65 sc, 3 dec, 73 sc, ss (140)

Rows 14-23: ch 1, 119 sc, ss (119)

Here’s what it looks like after row 23:

Rows 24-57: continue as before! (119)

You can continue as long as you’d like, but this is where I felt the bag was a good size :)

Now we’re going to begin the handle (NO fastening off necessary), but first:
59 ss OR however long it takes to reach the opposite side of the bag

Handle:
Row 1: ch 1, 8 sc in BLO of next 8 sts, turn work around, 8 sc in FRONT loop of those same 8
sts, ss into beginning of row (16)

(I’ve circled the first loop to sc into after turning the work around)

Completed first row of handle (I’ve numbered the stitches just in case you needed a visual)!

Continue working in the round :D

Rows 2-4: ch 1, 16 sc, ss (16)

Please do not copy, resell, or redistribute this pattern. Feel free to sell finished products, though. :) Pattern by

Here’s how it should look after row 4

*OPTIONAL* → stuff handle with anything to help it hold it’s shape — I used cut up
old t-shirts, can use stuffing – STUFF EVERY 20 ROWS to avoid difficulties with stuffing
before it’s too long

Rows 5-120: continue as before (16)

Fasten off once you’re happy with the length of the strap [be mindful that you’ll still be adding
the length of the beak as well], I did 120 rows

*****Here’s where you can add the eyes approx. 3 rows from end 3 rows apart
➔ Make sure to straighten out handle before attaching eyes (we want them facing out!)
➔ Either 6 mm plastic safety eyes (preferred)
➔ OR use black yarn and a darning needle to thread through until two separate eye shapes
are achieved, tie the two ends together and hide inside of handle

Beak:

Row 1: With orange, 6 sc into a magic circle

Row 2: ch 1, [inc, sc] x3, ss (9)
Row 3: ch 1, 3 inc, sc, 4 inc, sc, ss (16)
Rows 4-13: ch 1, 16 sc, ss (16)

Fasten off orange, leaving approx. 8 in. of tail to sew to handle

Attach beak to open end of strap using the orange tail you left behind

Attach the end of the beak to the side of the bag opposite to where the handle begins using either
orange or white yarn

Wings (x2):
With white, ch. 12
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook, 10 sc, ch 1, turn (11)
Row 2: inc, 9 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (13)
Row 3: inc, 11 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (15)
Row 4: 15 sc, ch 1, turn (15)
Row 5: inc, 13 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (17)
Row 6: 17 sc, ch 1, turn (17)
Row 7: inc, 15 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (19)
Row 8: 19 sc, ch 1, turn (19)
Row 9: inc, 17 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (21)
Row 10: 21 sc, ch 2, turn (21)
Row 11: dc, ss into next st, [ch 2, dc, ss] x9, ch 2, dc, ss into same st as dc (33)

Fasten off, leaving approx. 18 in. tail

Use darning needle to attach wings, making sure they are mirrored on either side of the bag
→ I decided to make mine slightly crooked
[PS — I only attached the half of the wing closest to the head, leaving the other half of the wing
to be free]:

Legs (x2):

Row 1: With orange, 6 sc in magic ring

Rows 2-11: ch 1, 6 sc (6)
Feel free to cut off most of long tail from the center of the ring so it’s out of the way
Fasten off, can leave short tail, hide tail inside of leg

Toes (claws? lol) x6:

Row 1: With orange, 6 sc in magic ring

Rows 2-6: ch 1, sc (6)
Fasten off, leave 6 in tail for sewing to leg

Before attaching together

After!

Now, sew completed feet to body by threading orange yarn through the bottom of the bag from
the inside, through the foot, and back through the bag. Then double knot yarn to secure. Continue
to sew until securely attached.

Weave in any remaining loose ends

*OPTIONAL*
Use thread to sew lining into bag
→ Again, more detailed description of this process available with a quick google search!

Bag all done!!!!!

*****[SIDE NOTE: This part may be a little confusing, so please refer to the photos above if
you need clarification. If still confused, go ahead and fasten off before beginning the handle.
ch 8, ss, ch 1, 8 sc. ch 1, 8 sc in the round for as many rows as you’d like and attach the strap
separately on the end closest to the tail. Disregard this if following pattern as before.]******

Continue working in the round :D

Rows 2-145: ch 1, 8 sc, ss (8)

Once again, continue as many rows as you’d like – I stopped at 145

Fasten off the white (finally…am I right)

*****Here’s where you can add the eyes approx. 3 rows from end 2 rows apart
➔ Make sure to straighten out handle before attaching eyes (reference photo in above
pattern!)
➔ Either 4 mm plastic safety eyes (preferred)
➔ OR use black yarn and a darning needle to thread through until two separate eye shapes
are achieved, tie the two ends together and hide inside of handle

Beak:

Row 2: ch 1, [2 sc, inc] x2, ss (8)
Rows 3-9: ch 1, 8 sc, ss (8)

Fasten off orange, leaving approx. 8 in. of tail to sew to handle

Attach beak to open end of strap using the orange tail you left behind

Now, attach the end of the beak to the side of the bag opposite to where the handle begins using
either orange or white yarn

Wings (x2):
With white, ch 8
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook, 7 sc, ch 1, turn (7)

Row 3: inc, 7 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (11)

Row 7: 17 sc, ch 2, turn (17)
Row 8: dc into 3rd ch from hook, ss into next st, [ch 2, dc, ss] x7, ch 2, dc, ss into that same st
(27)
Fasten off, leave a tail long enough to attach to bag

Legs (x2):
With orange, ch 8
Row 1: ss in 2nd ch from hook, 6 ss (7)
Row 2: ch 7, turn, ss in 2nd ch from hook, 5 ss (6)

First toe formed

Row 3: ch 7, 6 ss (6)
Row 4: ch 7, 6 ss (6)

Now sc into the next toe, and ss into beginning of leg
