GM ACTIONS
Ask establishing questions “Who's kicking down the door?”
to help paint the scene. “Where's the Duchess when the legionnaires cross?”
Ask evocative questions “Can you really just let them abandon their Legion oaths?”
to define/express the characters. “Who is the best con-man in the Legion camp?”
Ask leading questions “How do you think the Chosen feels about this?”
Ask questions to highlight what the GM is thinking. “A ride that far, might the horses collapse?”
Ask trivial questions “What do you miss most about your home?”
to fill the world with color. “Have you ever ridden a firemane?”
Ask the players for help “This could be risky or desperate, what do you think?”
when you’re uncertain or stuck. “What’s a good Devil’s Bargain here for Dave?”

A solid mission consists of: “There’s an abandoned blackshot canon sitting unguarded in

Cut to the action Push the game towards the action. Avoid minutia. “What would this scene look like in a movie?”
Be descriptive when you show the threat that’s present, “Chewed up bodies are scattered in the mud alongside the

Consider what might be happening elsewhere Could some determined bandits turn up at the worst time?
Think off-screen and how it might affect what’s happening here. What did the undead do with the captured Legion standard?
