To transfer a motor vehicle in Sri Lanka, follow these steps: Obtain necessary documents from the Department of Motor

Traffic: 1. Register owner should fill out Form A &A1 of M.T.A. 6 2. New Owner should pay registration fee and get voucher 3. New Owner should submit all required documents to Department of Motor Traffic Required Documents:
- M.T.A. 6 Application for Registration of Motor Vehicle on Transfer - M.T.A.8 Statement of Hire-Purchase Agreement Relating To - Proof of Ownership (if Applicable) - Other Supporting Documents Process Steps: 1. Get Voucher from Bank after registration fee payment. 2. Submit Form B & B1 of M.T.A. 6 and form C & C1 of M.T.A.8 with New Owner
to Department of Motor Traffic 3. Receive Certificate of Registration after verification by Department. Application for registering vehicles after owner's death: Department of Motor Traffic rules and regulations. **Eligibility Timeframe**: The process can be completed within one day if all documents are submitted promptly, or it may take two months
to receive the transferred certificate by post. **Submission Timing**: Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm (normal) or 9:30 am to 12:30 pm (priority). No processing on public and mercantile holidays. **Certificate Validity**: The transferred certificate is valid forever for most vehicles except heavy ones, which are registered for three years
only. be paid at the bank and attached as a voucher with submitted forms. No penalties are involved, but there may be charges for specific services such as: + Changes to the certificate: Rs. 150.00 + Custom number plate: Rs. 7,500.00 + Special Transfer (Sales) Tax: Rs. 3,000.00 To effect the transfer of ownership, please submit Form A (M.T.A.6) along
with Form C (M.T.A.8). Two passport-sized photographs are required, one of which must be certified by a Grama Niladhari, justice of peace, or executive officer. Supporting documents include the Revenue License for the year of transfer, a photocopy of same if applicable, and a certificate from the Licensing Authority if a notice of non-user has been
given. Additionally, proof that Sri Tax has been paid is necessary for first-time transfers involving 1Sri to 15 Sri Cars and 31 Sri, 32Sri Vehicles. A Certificate of Registration of Vehicle must also be provided, along with any relevant certificates related to mortgage or lease cancellations if applicable. If the registered owner or new owner is a limited
company, their embossed seal should accompany M.T.A. forms; alternatively, a letter from the company can serve as proof. A Certificate of Business Registration and its photocopy are required for partnership companies, along with consent letters from other partners if necessary. In cases where conditions are specified in the Certificate of
Registration, consent from relevant institutes may be needed to cancel them. For Diesel Motor Vehicles (Motor Cars and Dual Purpose Vehicles), Diesel Tax/Luxury Tax receipts along with their photocopies must also be submitted.
