 Cấu trúc 1: Despite/ In spite of + Noun/ Noun phrase/ Gerund phrase, S + V… : Mặc cho

Chuyển đổi câu dùng Although/ Even though/ Though sang Despite/ In spite of.

 Cấu trúc: Although/ Even though/ Though + S + V → Despite/ In spite of + the fact that +
S + V.

Ving.

Ba liên từ Although/ Even Though/ Though đều có cùng ý nghĩa “Mặc dù” và đều phải được
theo sau bởi một mệnh đề. Hai cấu trúc sử dụng các liên từ Although/ Even Though/ Though mà
người học thường bắt gặp bao gồm:

Cấu trúc 1: Although/Even though/Though + S + V … , S + V…. : Mặc dù …., nhưng …..

Ví dụ:

 Although/Even though/Though it was raining heavily, they decided to go for a hike in the
mountains. (Mặc dù trời mưa rất to, họ vẫn quyết định đi leo núi.)

Cấu trúc 2: S + V… (,) although/ even though/ though S + V…. : …. mặc dù….

 She decided to go for a run even though it was already dark outside. (Cô quyết định chạy
bộ mặc dù bên ngoài trời đã tối.)

Despite/ In spite of
Hai liên từ Despite/ In spite of đều có cùng ý nghĩa “Mặc dù” và đều phải được theo sau bởi
danh từ hoặc một cụm danh từ. Hai cấu trúc sử dụng các liên từ Despite/ In Spite of mà người
học thường bắt gặp bao gồm:

Cấu trúc 1: Despite/ In spite of + Noun/ Noun phrase/ Gerund phrase, S + V… : Mặc dù …., ….

Ví dụ:

 Despite the heavy traffic, he arrived at the meeting on time. (Mặc dù giao thông đông
đúc, anh ấy đã đến cuộc họp đúng giờ.)

Cấu trúc 2: S + V …. despite/in spite of + Noun/ Noun phrase/ Gerund phrase: …. mặc dù….

Ví dụ:

 He finished the race quickly in spite of having a leg cramp. (Anh ấy đã hoàn thành cuộc
đua một cách nhanh chóng dù bị chuột rút ở chân.)

 Cách 1: Sử dụng cụm ‘‘the fact that’’

 Cấu trúc: Although/ Even though/ Though + S + V.
 → Despite/ In spite of + the fact that + S + V.
 Ví dụ:
 Although it was raining, he went for a walk.
 → Despite the fact that it was raining, he went for a walk. (Mặc dù trời
đang mưa, anh ấy vẫn đi dạo.)
 Cách 2: Sử dụng Ving khi 2 mệnh đề có chủ ngữ giống nhau
 Cấu trúc: Although/ Even though/ Though + S + V.
 → Despite/ In spite of + the fact that + Ving.
 Ví dụ:
 Even though she had an early morning meeting the next day, she went
to the party.
 → In spite of having an early morning meeting the next day, she went
to the party. (Mặc dù có cuộc họp vào sáng sớm ngày hôm sau nhưng
cô ấy vẫn đến dự bữa tiệc.)
 Cách 3: Sử dụng danh từ/ cụm danh từ
 Cấu trúc: Although/ Even though/ Though + S + V.
 → Despite/ In spite of + Noun/ Noun phrase.
 Ví dụ:
 Even though it was raining, they decided to have a picnic.
 → In spite of the rain, they decided to have a picnic. (Bất chấp trời
mưa, họ quyết định đi dã ngoại.)
