The Ocean

The Poseidon Undersea Resort is a futuristic hotel concept designed by architect Bruce Jones, located 12 meters underwater in the Fulan lagoon of Fiji. The structure features a unique disc shape and is constructed using thick acrylic sheets to provide immersive views of marine life, while ensuring stability and safety against water pressure. Construction occurs in a controlled shipyard environment, with accessibility provided via submarines and an automatic cleaning system for maintenance.

UNDERSEA RESORT

Building function: Hotel
Type: Completely submerged, grounded
Depth below water: 12m
The Poseidon undersea resort is a concept which will sit on
the continental shelf of Fijian lagoon in near future.
this resort has a deck, which is outside the water and it is
exactly on top of the resort. This deck allows the users to
locate the Poseidon resort, from the flight.
FOUNDATION FORM
Given its submerged and grounded nature, the
Poseidon resort relies on foundation piles to
ensure structural stability against water currents.
These piles anchor the entire structure, preventing
any unwanted movement and maintaining its
position on the continental shelf of the Fijian
lagoon. The form of the Poseidon undersea resort is very well designed. The
structure underwater has two discs, which are attached by the tubular
spine.

disc shape structure is such that it can easily allow water to pass over
it without any water resistance.

contact with the ground.
The building being 12m underwater, does not experience the wave
motion. There is no question of drag or lift forces in the building as the
building is grounded and not moving. Therefore it is not necessary for
building to have hydro-dynamically sound form. As it only experiences
the water pressure around it, the form and joineries in this building are
such that it can resist water pressure.

The resort utilizes four-inch thick acrylic sheets in guest
rooms and the restaurant, creating screen walls that
connect visitors with the underwater environment. These
transparent walls offer immersive views of marine life,
enhancing the unique experience.

Submarine Access
Given its 12-meter depth, access to the hotel is facilitated via submarines
and boats to a deck above water. This deck connects to an underwater
administration block via an elevator, providing a seamless transition for
visitors.

Automatic Cleaning
To maintain clear underwater views, an automatic cleaning system
prevents barnacles and algae from obstructing the windows. High-
powered water jets travel along tracks, spraying the windows with high-
pressure seawater.

Detachable Modules
Each room is designed as a detachable module for easy repair. By sealing
watertight doors and pumping seawater into the joints, modules can be
detached and lifted to the surface without disrupting the rest of the
