I met my father-in-law for the first time when I would be standing at the altar, marrying
his eldest daughter, on 1 December. I didn't know what to expect, but I met a man who
had a great sense of humor, someone who could look at life's circumstances and find
laughter. He was very serious, however, about observing tribal traditions and about his
relationship with God. I think of him as a rock, in times when people compromise their
personal values, his life shone a light for his family and I am sure many others he came

into contact with....I know that many, many people are suffering from this loss we all
share. He was the head of the most prayerful family I have even seen or known about. He
loved his wife and all of his family very deeply. When he spoke he spoke with authority.
From that first meeting, he was of course interested to learn what kind of man I am, but
also took the time to explain Nigerian customs that a man thinking of marrying a Nigerian
woman should know. He showed kindness toward me then and in the years since that first
meeting.
We last traveled there as a family, and stayed with him and the family for several weeks,
and we are all so happy that we had that blessing when we did, not knowing his life
would end so soon.

Words can not express how deep this pain I feel inside. I still can't believe my eyes, still
thinking in my heart that this is a dream, Oh grandpa i will miss you so so much, you were
more like a father to me than an inlaw. You have always taken me like your son. People
around the area think I'm your son because of the relationship we shared. You had a very
good heart, you can give someone in need your last cash, you were so kind that you can give
someone anything within your reach. Oh grandpa your PA will really miss your love and care
