Immigration:

 Trump vowed to shut down what he termed the “open-border”


policies of Joe Biden.
 Trump Unveils plan to deploy troops on Mexican border, deport millions of
undocumented migrants
 Says US govt will recognise only 2 genders, end birthright citizenship,
revaluate trade relationships
 In the Oval Office, Trump signed an order revoking birthright
citizenship. But automatic US citizenship to people born in the
country is enshrined in the Constitution, and Trump’s action is
certain to face a legal challenge.
 The Trump administration has deported alleged members of a
Venezuelan gang from the US despite a court order forbidding
it from doing so
Climate Change:

 Trump plans to repeal some of Biden’s key climate policies, such as tax
credits for electric vehicles, which are meant to encourage a transition to a
green economy.
 Trump also wants to boost offshore drilling, though he might need to secure
congressional support to do that. Biden has selected swaths of ocean as
protected no-drill areas.

 The US is by far the WHO’s biggest financial backer,
contributing around 18pc of its overall funding. WHO’s most
recent two-year budget, for 2024-2025, was $6.8 billion.
Economy (Trade War):

 On 24 jan ,2025, US President Donald Trump issued a blunt


warning to global elites in a video message to the World
Economic Forum on Thursday: Make your product in the
United States or pay tariffs.
 “Come make your product in America and we will give you
among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth,” Trump said.
“But if you don’t make your product in America, which is your
prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff.”

 Trump has vowed to slap a 25 percent tariff on goods imported from
Mexico and Canada as punishment for what he says is their failure to stem
the flow of drugs and undocumented migrants into the United States.
 Trump has threatened to impose a 10 percent tariff on Chinese products
 Trump, who has also threatened Canada, Mexico and China
with heavy duties, said on Tuesday Europe had troubling trade
surpluses with the United States and was “in for tariffs”.
 We have always believed that there are no winners in a trade
war or a tariff war,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning
said.
 Beijing was “willing to maintain communication with the US,
properly handle differences, expand mutually beneficial
cooperation, and promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable
development of China-US relations”.
 United Nations and the International Monetary Fund have
recently cautioned that rising tariffs could hamper global
economic growth.

Russia- Ukraine Peace Deal:

 Prior to his inauguration on Monday, Trump vowed to end the


Ukraine war immediately upon taking office
 In remarks unusually critical of Putin, Trump said on Monday
that the Russian president “should make a deal.”
 “I think he’s destroying Russia by not making a deal.” Trump
added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had told
him that he wanted a peace agreement to end the war
Trump halts Aid Program:
 Trump ordered the bulk of US foreign assistance to be frozen
for three months on returning to office in January
 Trump’s aid freeze could cause millions of deaths: UN
 In fiscal year 2023, the US disbursed $72 billion in assistance
and provided 42pc of all humanitarian aid tracked by the UN
in 2024. This included $231 million to Pakistan, $440 million
to Bangladesh, $1 billion to Afghanistan, and $175 million to
India.
 While statistics for 2024 are not yet available, USAID and
other agencies were funding numerous projects in Pakistan.
 The suspension impacts five energy projects, four economic
growth initiatives, five agricultural programs, and several
others in education and health in Pakistan.
 US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on
Thursday that seeks to dismantle the Department of Education
and leave school policy in the hands of states
