PROGRAM
Day 1 –Tirana International Airport to Durres
Arrival from Bucharest to Tirana’s “Mother Theresa” International Airport.
Meet and greet from our local English / Romanian speaking guide. Trasfer by
air-conditioned minibus to our hotel in the Durres Beach Area. Durres is the
second largest city in Albania, the main port and has the largest beach in the
country. You have lunch at the hotel and enjoy some piece and quiet in the
beach.
Depending on the arrival time, you would visit in the afternoon the Roman
amphitheater and Museum of Archeology in Durres. Overnight in Durres.
Day 2 – Tirana (the capital of Albania) – Kruja. (total drive aprx 120 km)
Drive for aprx 1 hour to Tirana. Visit the main square at the center of
Tirana, Tower Clock, Ethem Bey Mosque. Coffee break at one of the
noumerous coffee shops in Tirana. You, then, visit the National
Museum of History and The Bunker (a museun dedicated to the crimes
of Albanian communism). Move along and drive to Kruja, home of
Albania's most important hero, Scanderbeg, who in the 15-th century
successfully kept the Turks at bay for over 25 years. Visit Scanderbeg
Museum and Turkish-style bazaar. Optional lunch in Kruja. Drive back
to your hotel in Durres. Overmight in Durres.
Day 3 Durres – Lezha – Shkoder – Razem (total drive aprx 150 km)
After breakfast, we drive to Lezha. Visit the Mousoleum of Skanderbeg and have a coffee. Then you move
along to Shkodra. Shkodra is the main Northen Albanian city. Visit the Rozafa Castle (where you would learn
about an old legend of motherhood and sacrifice). We continue our visit with Mesi Bridge and Leaden
Mosque. You move along and drive for about 40 km to Razma Natural Resort and spend the evening and
night in the midst of Albanian nature. Dinner and overnight at Razma Natural Resort near the fireplace.
Day 4 Razma to Berat (total drive aprx 240 km)
After breakfast we drive from Razma to Berat. One of the oldest cities in
Albania, Berat is known as the “City of 1000 Windows” and become UNESCO
World Heritage Site in 2008. We will visit a well – preserved and inhabited
castle and a museum of icons painted by Onufri, the famous 16th century
Albanian icon painter. Not to miss here is the traditional home cooked
dishes. Locals are very friendly. We overnight in Berat and enjoy the view of lit “1000 windows”. Overnight
in Berat.
Day 5 Berat – Gjirokastra - Sarande (total drive aprx 220 km)
Breakfast. Leave Berat to Gjirokstra. Gjirokastra is known as “the city of stone” due to its predominance in
almost the entire architecture of the city. It is an UNECSO World Heritage site since 2005. Gjirokastra has the
largest castle in the country which houses the largest Museum of Arms (the largest in the Ballkan). We
continue our drive to overnight to the beautiful coastal city of Saranda.
Day 6 Saranda – Butrint - Tirana (total drive aprx 340 km)
After breakfast we take a drive to the archelogiocal city of Butrint. This
ancient park has great scientific, touristic and archeological values, as
well as high levels of biodiversity. The park is an UNESCO site since 1992.
After the visit to Butrint drive back to Tirana. Free afernoon and evening
to the capital city. A chance, for some of you, to enjoy the vibrant
Tirana’s night life to one of numerous local restaurants and bars.
Day 7 – Return Home
Breakfast and free time before our flight back to Prague. Transfer to Tirana Internatioal Aiport.
