ON–THE–JOB–TRAINING EXPERIENCE

On–the–Job Training helped me to enhance and boost my

knowledge, confidence and skills. It was November 07, 2017, Tuesday,

when I started my on–the–job training at National Irrigation

Administration, Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems

(NIA UPRIIS Division IV). As I undergo my training I learned a lot of

things like how to photocopy papers, encode data, file and sort

documents. Like every first timer it was not easy, I didn’t have any

idea to the company I’ve chosen. But as time passed by, with the help

of the people around me it became easy to deal with the people I’ve

seen every day. I learned lot of things and I learned how to give love

and passion on the things I’ve done. Being with them was priceless; all

the happy moments were kept in my heart. The joy hey brought and

especially the lesson and the things they shared with us.

I realized how important the On–the–Job Training to student like

me, there were no quizzes, no exams, either recitation in everyday but

the real meaning of work and that you need to act as a professional

like by waking up early in the morning just to arrive on time at the

office, my On–the–Job Training helped me to improve my personality. I

learned how I confidently socialize with different attitude of people. It

helped me to be more careful and disciplined in every task they gave

to me. Intelligence Quotient is the reason why we got hired but

Emotional Quotient is the reason why we stayed.

In just a short span of time, we will soon be facing the real world;

we will be more independent on the things of our own. This also means

dealing with another set of different people, so it is really good to know

what you’re doing and know how to care and love your work. As a
18

student, all we can do is to apply the entire lessons we’ve learned in

school, as well as on our On–the–Job Training. We need to motivate

ourselves. Be inspired on the things that we do love the path we’re

taking and do our best and always give the highest gratitude in our

Father Above.

MONTH OF NOVEMBER

November 07, 2017, Tuesday, the first day of my On–the–Job

Training at the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) located at

Bayanihan, Gapan City. During our first day, Mrs. Catherine L. Apostol,

HR Assistant, assisted us into our designated department. She

assigned me with my co–trainee/classmate Jessa Mae M. Zurbano in

HR/Admin Department together with the other trainee from K–12.

After a week, Mrs Teresita S. Lavarro, former Administrative and

Finance Section Officer, oriented all the On–the–Job Trainees. She gave

brief history of NIA. She also informed us about the rules and

regulations, office manners and etiquettes as well. She also introduced

the names of the employees and their position as well.

At my first day, my trainer, Mrs. Apostol, taught us how to

operate a photocopier machine. She also showed us the different

department for us to be able to familiarize the particular area. In

HR/Admin, Mrs. Teresita S. Lavarro, the Head Officer, together with

Mrs. Juanita E. Bustillos; Mrs. Angelita O. Aguilar and Mrs. Catherine L.

Apostol were the trainers that we’ll going to work with.

Everyday we were tasked to photocopy some documents such as

memorandum circulars, fax messages, office memorandum, plantilla,

etc. We were also tasked to send or route the papers that were for

signature of the appropriate officials. Since we were assigned in the HR

Department, we were tasked to be familiar with all the employees of

NIA because we always give certificate or other memorandum to

employees. Mrs. Apostol taught us how to encode the record of leave

of absence.
20

Mrs. Lavarro invited us (trainees) to visit some main source of

water which was located at Peñaranda and Guinandusan for us to know

how it works.

Before the month ended we almost knew the names of all the

employees. I had also learned how to socialize with new people and to

the new environment that surround me. This month I earned 135 hours

in my On–the–Job Training.

MONTH OF DECEMBER
21

During my second month of my On–the–Job Training, I was still

doing what I did on my previous month, but this time our trainer were

not around so, she asked us to encode the TIN of employees including

its mandatory deduction. I also did compiling of papers such plantilla,

labour generation, fax messages, memorandum circular, office

memorandum etc. I was also tasked to compute the record of leaves of

the employees; I also encoded papers regarding the Pre–Bidding

Conference.

Everyday passed by with almost the same routinely works since

there were vacant time, Mrs. Lavarro asked us to pay bills to PNB. It

was such a great feeling to be entrusted by your trainer, because aside

from learning how to deposit I knew that my trainer trusted me in

terms of money.

And in this month the employee of NIA–UPRIIS Division IV

celebrated their Christmas party. It was a pleasure to be with them.

They treated us like their own employees. Mrs. Lavarro asked the On–

the–Job Trainees to give some intermission number. We also joined

them playing basketballs, volleyballs and because of that we were able

to know how to be with the employees of our On–the–Job company. We

were also blessed to be accepted as their family. Also in this month,

I’ve earned 119 hours only, for the reason that I was not able to attend

some days because I was sick and had prior commitments at times.

MONTH OF JANUARY
22

New Year, new month and new Administrative Officer. Our recent

Administrative Officer Mrs. Lavarro already retired because of her age.

Our new acting Administrative Officer Mrs. Cynthia G. Borruel worked

for almost ten years in NIA Division IV but she was assigned in

Cabanatuan City ad now she was assigned at Division IV we welcome

her together with all employees. She is nice and kind. She is

approachable so it easy for us to know her.

Because this is the first month of the year, my co–trainee and I

were tasked to update the personal data sheet of each employee, after

updating and printing it, we photocopied it into three copies and filed it

into three. After that we are tasked to route it for signature. I was also

tasked to route the Plantilla of casual appointment/re–appointment, I

also scanned papers, and every end of the month, and we distributed

the DTR of all employees. Because Mrs. Lavarro already retired, Mrs.

Apostol asked to route the clearance of certification of TSL and CMG.

As always we photocopied documents such as renewals, PDS, office

memorandum, memorandum circular and we also filed documents and

put it into its folder.

Aside from personal data sheet, we were also tasked to update

the SALN of all employees, it helped me to enhance my skills and it

was great opportunity and as usual we photocopied it into four copies.

Gradually, I’ve learned what the things to be done in HR Department

were. As time passed by, our trainer let us did it without her

supervision. This month I finished my 144 hours.

MONTH OF FEBRUARY
23

This is the last month of my On–the–Job Training, two things

came to my mind first, I’m so happy because finally I’m almost done in

my 540 hours of training, my tasks were not too difficult because I

already knew what to do and how to manage all the things. I’ve

learned to work faster and to finish it accordingly. I already knew all

the names of employees, I already know how to fix our photocopier

machine when it’s not working. The second thing, I will miss

everything, my co–trainees, my work, my trainer they are not just only

a trainer but for me they served as a motivator, we were inspired by

them because of their dedication. They become family for us.

As I always did every month, photocopying documents, encoding

data (Pag–ibig, Certificate, Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net

Worth etc.). We also sort papers, routing papers for signature and filing

data were the thing I’ve done during the rest of my training.

28th of February was my last day, I was really happy because

finally I’ve done the required time. We had little bonding with my

trainers and my co–trainees. After that day, we received our certificate

of completion but even I finished my hours we continued attending our

on–the–job training to give thanks to our trainer and this month I

finished 143 hours.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
24

As a trainee, there are some instances that we encountered

problems; like for example, me as a trainee, I found myself some

difficulties in arriving early at the office, and doing unfamiliar office

works. But as the time goes by, I mastered all the things we did in our

office.

SUGGESTIONS

I suggest during your On–the–Job Training you must act as a

professional. You should show your interest and determination and

enjoyment on your work. As a trainee, you need to be disciplined and

patient especially when you have lots of work. Being early is also

important, you need to arrive before your trainer come, and be

industrious, this is another thing you need to do. You need to learn how

to ask your trainer because it will help you to prevent or lessen the

mistakes. You also need to be polite in every person you encountered.

Learn to greet everyone.

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend that some employees of the company must also

learn how to use computer, because in this generation technology is

already a vital tool in order to make our work faster and easier. They

need to attend more seminars in order to improve their knowledge and

skills. Secondly, I recommend that they need to hire more employees

who are computer–literate; it is in order for them to perform activities

that is connected to computer and in that matter, they will easily know

what will do when errors occurs.
