Meissen products, Saxon's ones.
Literature professor.
At the beginning of the seventeenth century, the West discovered the secret of the creation
of Chinese porcelain. So on, the Meissen's factory, near Dresden, was opened in 1710, to
launch the mass fabrication of western porcelain. It was, at the moment, a true display of
power of the Saxon's crown because the royal members used this porcelain as a mean for
diplomatic gifts. For example, when the Spanish Prince Carlo, the husband of Princess
Maria Amalia from the Saxon's royal family, win a war against the Austrians and is rewarded
with the crown of the Kingdom of Two Sicily in 1732; his wife was received in Venice, in
1738, by the prince Luigi Reggio, a Spanish ambassador. The latter hold a great reception
for the princess in Venice and, at the end of it, since the princess continuED her way to her
husband in southern Italy, she offered this two porcelains products as a diplomatic present to
the ambassador. In a way to highlight the wealth of her family, the coat of arms of the
Spanish ambassador was engraved on the porcelain of the tea bowl and the chocolate cup.
Some years later, in Paris, Luigi Reggio di Branciforte, Prince of Campofiorito, became the
Spanish ambassador to the France's crown and the French aristocracy was greatly
impressed by the fact they can perceived the prince's coat of arms on all his porcelain
products.
