On the 26th of July 2020, Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his sixth and last state

of the nation address at the Batasang Pambansa Complex, less than a year before his administration
ended. The SONA was an hour and 41 minutes long. It differs from the previous ones as the country is
suffering from the broad effects of COVID-19, He delivered his speech with some guests physically
present and others virtually. Against the backdrop of the local spread of the more dangerous COVID-19,
he makes his remarks.

Former President Duterte began his statement at the SONA by acknowledging that the
pandemic is causing problems in our lives. His speeches frequently deal on issues connected to his drug
war, jobs for Filipinos, update about the pandemic were experiencing and corruption. As persons in
positions of power often engage in dishonest, unlawful activity. It also involves breaking established
laws and regulations to benefit oneself. Unless you entirely overthrow the government, neither you nor
anybody else can stop corruption. Apparently establishing strict rules is one way to put an end to
corruption. Above all, guilty parties need to receive severe punishments. Additionally, strong rules
should be quickly put into effect so that the authority would think twice or not consider doing such
things.

Over the past years of his administration, we had seen our formers president's efforts to
improve the effectiveness of government services for all citizens. He makes actions for every issue the
country is facing. The former president even called for the approval of a measure to reform military
pensions, the restoration of Marawi, and the right of soldiers and police to free legal counsel. Race
against time to do the necessary work to reconstruct the war-torn city of Marawi and send its residents'
families back home. In conclusion, the former president spoke about his objectives in his SONA and
what he hoped to accomplish before his government ended. In my opinion the address succeeds
because he shows both positive and negative sides, and now that his administrations already ended,
he fulfilled his aspects and addressed the negative aspects before he end his rule.
