In 2005, Cliff Jones set off on a unique journey around Britain on a unicycle. Earlier, he had filmed a
documentary about traveling across Europe in a 50-year-old car. Passionate about motorsports, he built
racing car engines and traveled around London on an old bicycle, which he also used for a trip to
France. That experience inspired him to take on a bigger challenge - a unicycle tour of Britain.
His first attempt in 2004 failed due to a knee injury, but in 2005, he finally succeeded, covering over
8,500 km in four months. One of his best moments was reaching Wales and seeing Mount Snowdon.
Though other cyclists could climb mountains more easily, he never regretted choosing a unicycle, as it
made the journey even more special.
The toughest part came when he drank dirty stream water, leading to a severe fever that left him
hospitalized for five days. Weak but determined, he refused to quit before finishing his challenge.
Despite all the hardships, Cliff looks back on the experience with pride and says, “If I could afford it,
I’d do something similar again.” His journey remains an inspiring tale of perseverance, adventure, and
pushing one’s limits.
