NAME: CHRISTIAN B. ALMANDRES.

SUBJECT: GE-8 ETICHS

YEAR & SECTION: BSBA-FM 1

 Go online and look for news items on whistle-blowers. Identify the crime or unethical act
that they are exposing as well as the perpetrators of the crime.. Detail your findings and
opinion below. Vidal Doble testifies in the Senate hearing on the “Hello, Garci” scandal

(https://www.spot.ph/arts-culture/47591/10-controversial-filipino-whistle-blowers) Former member

of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Intelligence Service, the whistle-blower (ISAFP). Doble
resurfaced as a civilian in 2007 after a two-year seclusion. He stated the unethical act where he
professed to be a member of a group of troops who listened in on Arroyo’s phone conversations.
“We were all astonished when (she) called Garcillano and (asked) about the additional one million
votes,” Doble said. He said he dared to speak out after witnessing “rampant cheating” in the 2007
elections, which demonstrated that “nothing had changed.” He previously claimed Ong forced him to
give testimony in a clip for a “scripted authentication” of the tapes, but his girlfriend Marietta Santos
later corrected this claim, Vidal Doble only stated so, she alleged, because the ISAFP was after his
family. Doble was among the Arroyo administration’s whistle-blowers who requested to be placed
under the Witness Protection Program in August of last year.

Voting is an essential component of any democratic government. Citizens engage in the electoral
vote by casting ballots. Citizens elect leaders that represents themselves and respective ideas, as well
as the leaders work to further the citizens’ goals. Having a fair and transparent election must be done
as it is a right that every citizen possesses. What Vidal Doble did was right, although he made an
alleged scripted video due to the threat of Ong as he gave awareness to masses regarding the
unethical act that the former president Gloria Arroyo did despite risking his own and family’s life. He
stood up to authority in the spirit of doing the right thing for the sake of speaking the truth for
everyone knowing the threats and consequences that he may face.

 Reconcile these two topics: our discussion of autonomy and the duty to “speaking truth to
power” Suppose you are already working for a company and your boss tells you that you
should offer a bribe to a government agent to obtain permit to build and operate a factory in
a province. What would you do? What are your alternatives if you believe that it is wrong to
bribe government agencies?

As I am an employee to begin with, I am fully aware that every decision I make will highly affect not
only my name, but also the company that I work in. Every action that I will do have a consequences
within that I am held accountable for.. Knowing that bribe is illegal and clearly unethical, I would
refuse as it is against the law. I would keep in mind that in business ethics, we need to strengthen our
decision- making skills that balance the benefits for not only profit, but also for people and the
environment. Alternatively, thing I will do is to cautiously report the said incident to superior as such
unethical commands must not be done in the workplace. It could also be through the co-workers of
mine who are also aware of the said matter.
As ethical principles, both autonomy and the need to “speak truth to power” can be reconciled. To
be able to assert one’s freedom of self and speak up for what one Believes is right. The stated
decisions of mine justifies the duty of “speaking the truth” for the reason that I would choose to not
tolerate any unethical tasks in a job. Telling the truth is always never without risk, might as well do it
for the right reason that will benefit everyone ethically.

 Consider other topics in the field of business ethics. Select one and give a presentation of the
significance of discussing this topic.

Business ethics is a once-regulated economy that required authorities to manage and monitor
business organizations and economic structures through law and governance mechanisms in order
for them to make their mark in contributing to the growth and well-being of their various
stakeholder groups in a balanced way that protected the interests of almost everyone. Ethical
behaviour not only enhances profits, but also enhances company relationships and boosts staff
productivity. It is concerned with how business people treat themselves when conducting business.
Businessmen and business units face difficulties in terms of unethical practices.

Discrimination and harassment are two of the most important ethical problems. Affecting today’s
businesses. When workplace prejudice continues unchecked, it has severe implications for
employees, including productivity loss and poor performance. Though employment discrimination
charges can be costly, challenging, and detrimental to a company’s reputation, morale, and financial
line, if employees are to feel that their employers value their skills and knowledge, it must be
eliminated.

Discrimination at work can cause other stress-related illnesses, anxiety, and depression. Harassment
leads to absence, bad morale, a loss of concentration, and criminal penalties. The Civil Rights Act of
1964, as well as associated state human rights and fair employment regulations, will be breached if
sexual harassment is not prohibited in the workplace. Reporting workplace harassment or
discrimination is crucial for a multitude of reasons as it indicates that the employer was aware of the
problem and is therefore accountable for its resolution, and because it may be the only way to stop
the conduct.

For this instance, different business management concepts, principles, speculations, practices, goals,
and approaches were evaluated, revalidated, and constantly changed as a result of massive
liberalization, privatization of public, and globalization of business, which began at the end of the
twentieth century and accelerated at the turn of the twenty-first century.
