DEFINING GLOBAL CITY
Sociologist Saskia Sassen popularized the term
"global city" in the 1990s. Her criteria for what
constitutes a global city were primarily
economic. In her work, she initially identified
          Three Global Cities.

WHY STUDY GLOBAL CITIES?
                     "GLOBALIZATION IS SPATIAL"
          This statement means two things.
           1. Globalization is spatial because it occurs in
             the physical spaces.
           2. Globalization is spatial because what makes
it move is the fact that it is based in places.

CONCLUSION
An understanding of global cities is necessary to comprehend the complexities of urban
growth, economic progress, and social advancement. By looking at what makes a city
"global," the challenges these cities face, and the struggles of their poorest residents, it
becomes clear that global cities are the driving force behind the world's economy,
culture, and society. These cities have unparalleled growth potential and serve as
centers for innovation, entrepreneurship, and intercultural exchange. However, they
also bring with them significant issues, including poverty, inequality, social exclusion,
and environmental destruction. The poor population of these cities faces unique
difficulties, including limited access to basic amenities, social isolation, and
vulnerability to natural disasters. To solve these issues, governments, non-
governmental organizations, and businesses must collaborate. By studying global
cities, we may gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of urban growth and the
challenges of creating just, sustainable cities. If we understand the possibilities and
challenges of global cities, we can build a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable
future for all.
