THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
Realizing it's all just related to the idea that women are property, and you can do what you like
with your property,
Aware of some 47,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other
family members. This meant that, on average, woman or girl is killed by someone in her own
family every 11 minutes,
Noting with deep concern in this excerpt is that women’s embodiment of “honor” remains an
ideology that cuts across multiple societies,
Conscious the notion of honor itself is steeped in gendered understandings of the body and
control, making the term “honor crime” a deeply troubling label according to feminists and
activist groups,
Noting that the sexual control and policing of women’s bodies has been observed to underlie all
types of violence against women,
Recalling to that the number of honor killing victims is greater than reported as in some cases
women were driven to suicide or the cause of the death was not reported as murder but as illness,
1. Underscores that all nations should make fleek increase to the number of awareness
     campaigns concerning gendered violence;
     a. Adult and youth should be educated to change mentalities about gendered violence issues
        like honor killing through ways such as but not limited to:
            i.     Make awareness programs part of every school education system;
             ii. Both formal education and training should include topics to change male
                 dominated views;
          iii.   Raise public awareness;
     b. Most importantly social media platforms and TV ads like:
          i.     The media should empower women;
          ii.    Facebook
          iii.   Instagram
          iv.    Twitter
          v.     YouTube
          vi.    Radio station
          vii. TV programs should reflect social problems and also provide information on
                 related issues
2. Calling for amending unjust laws that does not fairly punish horrific crimes such as honor
     killing for example;
     a. States that a man who sees “his wife or other family members” in compromising
              position and kills or injures one or both of them “in order to defend his dignity and
              respect” will not be prosecuted for;
               I. The law should be amended so that men are punished like women if they
                       have been found in a compromising position;
3. Encourages member states to ease the way for organizations such as The Honor Based
     Violence Awareness Network that help women in need:
      a. The member states should provide protection for these organizations
      b. The member states should provide all the resources needed to help women
      c. If any member state restricts an organization to provide aid, it must be condemned and
          sanctioned politically
                i. Sanction could be such as but not limited to: paying fines or any other
                      economic sanctions
      d. The practice will be supervised by the UN along with the member state’s government
4. Request that tribalism and clan relations should have awareness groups sent to them to talk to
     them about abolishing honor killing;
     a. As tribes have wrong cultural believes regarding women, these believes shall be
          abolished;
     b. Individuals who still encourage honor killing should be forced to go to therapy sessions;
5.   Supports gender relations, women’s rights and status;
     a. Educational facilities for girls should be increased;
     b. Women should be trained in women’s rights to have more self-confidence;
     c. The number of jobs for women should be increased;
     d. Young girls’ consciousness should be raised through informal meetings at the quarter
          level;
6. Also urges marriage patterns should change:
     a.   Marriages should not be arranged;
                   i.    people who love one another should be allowed to get married;
                   ii.   Young people and especially girls should not be pressured;
7.   Proclaim sexual knowldge changing the understanding of sex relations;
     a. There should be sexuality education in schools;
     b. Sexual assault and rape should be given heavy punishments;
8. Considers institutions that women can live in after being abused:
     a. These institutions would be available for women after they speak up after being abused
        and have no way of living;
     b. The institution would provide a room to stay in, food, and all kind of clothes;
     c. The institution would offer small jobs for women;
     d. The institution would be responsible for all kinds of legal procedures to help women have
        their rights;
     e. The institution would be supported by the government;
