Note! Note that for UL- end carriages only STD and MED connections are valid!
Each girder connection type is calculated and the maximum utilization limits are
shown further in this document. These limits must be followed.
In all (not some under running crane connections) girder connections the joint
plate or the girder itself is bolted to the end carriage. The shear of the bolted
connection between joint plate and end carriage is not transmitted by the shear
of the bolts but by the friction between the joint plate and the end carriage. It is
important that both connection surfaces are clean and smooth and that correct
bolt tightening order and torque is used. Crane must not be operated if the bolts
are loose.
The joint includes also two spring pins (roll pins) which align the joint plate to the
end carriages. Pins must be used always when aligning end carriages and when
bolting end carriages back to joint plates after removing them. It is important to
use correct size pins.
The table on following page shows the available joint plates for different crane
and end carriage types.

Normally, the height of end carriage is measured from the runway rail to the
connection surface between end carriage and joint plate. In under running
cranes the height is measured as indicated in the figure.
