1 CRANE CONNECTION TYPES (summary)


1.1 Old connection types

The girder connection types have been first divided to:

P Girder Connections for Profile Girders


B Girder Connections for BOX Girders

Both of the above types have been further divided to:

Top running

STD Standard Connections (girder not notched)


MED Medium Connections (girder notched)
LOW Low Connections (girder notched)

Under running

STD Standard Connections (girder not notched)


MED Medium Connections (girder notched)
HIGH High Connections (girder notched)

Note! Note that for UL- end carriages only STD and MED connections are valid!

Each girder connection type is calculated and the maximum utilization limits are
shown further in this document. These limits must be followed.

In all (not some under running crane connections) girder connections the joint
plate or the girder itself is bolted to the end carriage. The shear of the bolted
connection between joint plate and end carriage is not transmitted by the shear
of the bolts but by the friction between the joint plate and the end carriage. It is
important that both connection surfaces are clean and smooth and that correct
bolt tightening order and torque is used. Crane must not be operated if the bolts
are loose.

The joint includes also two spring pins (roll pins) which align the joint plate to the
end carriages. Pins must be used always when aligning end carriages and when
bolting end carriages back to joint plates after removing them. It is important to
use correct size pins.

The table on following page shows the available joint plates for different crane
and end carriage types.
