SAMTRAC – SAFETY MANAGEMENT TRAINING
Have you attended any HSE courses before or have any experience in HSE?
If NO :
    In order to become an effective HSE /Safety Officer we recommend you enrol in the following courses to
     ensure your competency as an effective HSE/SAFETY Officer:
       Commence with:
           o Introduction to OHSAct Course (1 Day Course) (pre-requisite for Advanced OHSAct)
                  The course gives you an insight in the health and safety legal requirements in the
                     workplace of the various role players e.g. CEO, Employer. Employees and HSE
                     Representatives etc.
                  Issued with a certificate of attendance – no assessment
                  You can attend the Advanced OHSAct immediately after the completion of this course as
                     there is no delay awaiting results
              o   Advanced OHSAct course (2 day course)
                      Further insight into the health and safety legal requirements in the workplace with
                        regards to the OHS Act and Regulations. The course involves a review of the OHSAct
                        course but the focus of this course is on the Regulations linked to the OHSAct. The
                        student also learns how to utilise the OHSAct effectively when running a HSE System to
                        ensure legal compliance.
                      On completion of the course an assessment is conducted with a pass requirement of
                        65% to be found competent and receive a certificate of competency.
                      It takes up to 20 working days to receive your results and it is recommended you await
                        the results before attending ASHEPP.
              o   ASHEPP Course (2 DAY MERSETA ACCREDITED COURSE (4 credits)
                      General HSE principles and practices which are applied in the work place to ensure
                        adequate health and safe work practices. Recommended do attend this before
                        Introduction to SAMTRAC in order to assist with the hazard and risk identification
                        process.
                      On completion of the course an assessment is conducted with a pass requirement of
                        65% to be found competent and receive a certificate of competency.
                      It takes up to 20 working days to receive your results and it is recommended you await
                        the results before attending HIRA.
              o   Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment(HIRA) (2 day course)
                      This practical course will provide the successful learner with the necessary tools and
                          skills to enable them to carry out hazard and risk assessments in their workplace.
                      On completion of the course an assessment is conducted with a pass requirement of
                          65% to be found competent and receive a certificate of competency.
                      It takes up to 20 working days to receive your results and it is recommended you await
                          the results before attending Introduction to SAMTRAC.
              o   Introduction to SAMTRAC (5 day course) (pre-requisite for SAMTRAC)
                       You will learn how to identify hazards and risks and conduct HSE risk assessments in the
                         workplace as a key role of a HSE / Safety officer as well as developing procedures and
                         work instructions to be used in HSE system implementation.
                       On completion of the course an assessment is conducted with a pass requirement of
                         65% to be found competent and receive a certificate of competency.
                       It takes up to 20 working days to receive your results and once you receive these you
                         may schedule to attend SAMTRAC.
       o   INCIDENT INVESTIGATION LEVEL 3 - (3 day course)
                An important aspect of a HSE / Safety Officer is to conduct Incident investigations in the
                  workplace as the designated investigator. In order to effectively conduct the
                  investigations it is a strong recommendation to attend this course. This aspect is not
                  addressed in detail in SAMTRAC but rather details how it fits into the HSE programme
                  implementation.
                On completion of the course an assessment is conducted with a pass requirement of
                  65% to be found competent and receive a certificate of competency.
                It takes up to 20 working days to receive your results.
       o   SAMTRAC (10 DAY MERSETA accredited course) (Internationally recognised by IOSH and IRRSM)
               SAMTRAC - takes all the HSE aspects covered through the various courses and the
                further theory covered in SAMTRAC and details how to implement an HSE system in a
                workplace.
               SAMTRAC has 3 assessments which are conducted during the course an individual
                assignment, a group assignment and a summative assessment which need to be passed
                with 65% to ensure competency.
               A SAMTRAC certificate is issued on completion of the course if you are found to be
                competent with 65% for each assessment.
 As detailed previously it is recommended you attend
       o   Introduction to OHSACT
       o   Advanced OHSACT
       o   ASHEPP
       o   HIRA
       o   and Incident Investigation L3. (recommended after samtrac is completed)
 HOWEVER:
       o   Introduction is a pre-requisite to attend SAMTRAC
