Several cities are dealing with the crisis of overpopulation, causing a dearth of resources. Social and
economical imbalance among citizens creates problems in a community. As technology grows, the concept of
Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things can be used into planning Smart cities which can gradually tackle
several issues in a coexistent society.
The building of a smart city requires large investments by the government. Nonetheless, it is one of the
best changes possible in lifestyles if done with conscious implementation. Smart cities are designed for
optimum usage of space and resources along with an efficient and optimum distribution of benefits. It also aims
at increasing connectivity at various levels among citizens, as well as between the administration and
population. Public properties such as schools, roads, and hospitals are improved. The system can tackle several
redundancies of the present system and save time and money. As technology is rapidly advancing, one can
acknowledge that one needs to develop their lifestyles accordingly to adapt to present-day demands.
Smart cities are meant to be environment-friendly. There are devices which can keep track of air purity
level, as well as other environmental and health-related factors. The investment in such a city should also
include the maintenance of a conscious work-force which shall review and amend the system. Therefore, a
smart city shall only reach a wholesome stage if it stands up to the social and psychological needs of the
population.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions.
As we move closer to the futuristic cities, the demand for smart technology development and IT
problem-solving continues to grow. Although the number of developers and innovators tackling Smart City
innovations is increasing, there still remains a series of problems all developers face at some point or another in
their solutions.
Smart cities utilise sensor technology to gather and analyse information in an effort to improve the
quality of life for residents. Sensors collect data on everything from rush hour stats to crime rates to overall air
quality. Complicated and costly infrastructure is involved in installing and maintaining these sensors. Besides,
major metropolitan areas are already challenged with replacing decades-old infrastructure, such as underground
wiring, steam pipes, and transportation tunnels, as well as installing high-speed internet. Broadband wireless
service is increasing, but there are still areas in major cities where access is limited. Funding for new
infrastructure projects is limited and approval processes can take years. Installing new sensors and other
improvements cause temporary-though still frustrating-problems for people living in these cities. Developers
can help make it easier to install and utilise smart technology by considering these challenges at the very early
stages of development. By beginning with the end in mind, developers and tech companies can speed up the
process of making our cities smarter by implementing easy-to-install hardware.
In any major city, there’s a balance between quality of life and invasion of privacy. While everyone
wants to enjoy a more convenient, peaceful, and healthy environment, nobody wants to feel like they are
constantly being monitored by “Big Brother.” Cameras installed on every street corner may help deter crime,
but they can also install fear and paranoia in law-abiding citizens. Another valid concern is the amount of data
being collected from all the smart sensors residents come into contact with each day. Developers can help
alleviate some of the anxieties of smart city residents by adding transparency and education to their solutions.
By developing with the community in mind and considering how they might respond to new technology,
companies can gain trust from the people whose solutions are intended to help. Of course, local government
officials and community boards need to be involved in the rollout and educational aspects as well.
For a Smart city to truly exist and thrive, it needs “smart” citizens who are engaged and actively taking
advantage of new technologies, with any new city-wide tech project, part of the implementation process must
involve educating the community on its benefits. This can be done through a series of in-person town hall-style
meetings and email campaigns with voter registration, as well as an online education platform that keeps
citizens engaged and up-to-date.
When technology, city governance, and communities of people come together to improve the quality of
life for everyone involved, that’s when a city truly becomes “smart.”

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions from 6 to 10.
As cities continue to grow, they face many problems and disadvantages that need attention and creative
solutions. One major concern is the increasing issue of having too many people in one place, which strains
resources and infrastructure. More and more people are moving to cities in search of opportunities, causing
them to become crowded, congested, and overwhelming for transportation, housing, and healthcare.
According to a report by the United Nations in 2018, it is predicted that by 2050, around 68% of the
world’s population will live in cities. This rapid increase in urban population is likely to make existing problems
worse and create new ones. The strain on resources, along with poor planning and limited space, can result in
unequal access to services, making life difficult for many city residents. Furthermore, the concentration of
industries, vehicles, and energy use in cities contributes significantly to air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions,
and the depletion of natural resources. Another disadvantage of future cities is the potential for people to feel
isolated and disconnected from others. Despite the increasing connectivity provided by technology, the fast-
paced urban lifestyle and lack of social connection can lead to loneliness. City life can be impersonal and
temporary, making it difficult to build a sense of community and belonging.
To tackle these challenges, city planners, policy makers, and communities must collaborate to develop
innovative strategies for sustainable urban development. This includes creating efficient transportation systems,
promoting environmentally friendly infrastructure, and designing inclusive spaces that encourage social
interaction. By prioritizing the well-being of residents, considering the environmental impact, and embracing
technological advancements, cities of the future have the potential to overcome these problems and become
thriving, resilient, and livable places.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the following questions.
All over the country young people are entering a world of homelessness and poverty, according to a recent
report by the housing group, Shelter. Nearly 150,000 young people aged between sixteen and twenty-five will
become homeless this year, says Shelter. Some of the young homeless may sleep out in the open in such places
as 'cardboard city' in London, where people of all ages sleep in the open air in their only homes - cardboard
boxes. Others may find accommodation in shelters run by voluntary organizations or get a place in a hostel,
which gives them board for up to ten weeks.’
But who are these people? Those who are seeking a roof over their heads are mostly not runaways but
“throwaways” - people who have been thrown out of their homes or forced to leave because of parental divorce,
an unsympathetic step-parent or one of many other reasons.
Take the case of one sixteen-year-old schoolgirl, Alice. She did not come from a poor home and had just
passed her exams with good results. The Shelter team met her in a hostel where she was doing her physics
homework. It turned out that her parents had thrown her out of her home for no other reason that she wanted to
do Science Advanced Level exams - which her parents refused her permission to do, saying that sciences were
unladylike!
Shelter says that the Government's laws do nothing to help these youngsters. Rising rents, the shortage of
cheap housing and a cut in benefits for young people under the age of twenty-five are causing a national
problem, according to Shelter. The recent changes in the benefit laws mean that someone aged between sixteen
and twenty-five gets less than older people and they can only claim state help if they prove that they left home
for a good reason.
Shelter believes that because of the major cuts in benefits to young people, more and more are being
forced to sleep on the streets. Shelter also points out that if you are homeless, you can't get a job because
employers will not hire someone without a permanent address; and if you can't get a job, you are homeless
because you don't have any money to pay for accommodation. It's an impossible situation.

questions.
In the future, cities may see flying vehicles, mega bridges, and underground space. Those cities will be
controlled by the Internet and the development of technologies. Technology will also be used to create a new
quality of life in well-planned developments.
Transportation through tunnels will be more popular. Technology is much faster and cheaper today, so the
city of the future will see more solutions, such as an underground network of tunnels that could ship 600 million
packages a year. Some cities are developing the above-ground tunnel travel system in which passengers and
cargo could be transported in shorter time.
The bridge of the future will do more than connect two points. An exciting example is that a skybridge will
offer everything from pedestrian and bike lanes as well as services for people on it. Future cities will see
skybridges as a large area with houses, offices, and restaurants.
The streets of the future city are smart. One good example is streetlights that react to what's going on
around them. For example, if a crowd is leaving a stadium at night, the lamps may brighten to light the way or
even warn a nearby ambulance.

I find it really exhilarating to think about the future. Technology is advancing so quickly that in 40 years,
who knows what amazing things we’ll be able to do? Scientists say that by 2050, there will be over ten billion
people in the world, and technology will have improved so much that we’ll have a lot more information about
diseases and maybe even cures. We’ll all be living in eco-friendly houses, no longer burdened by exorbitant
electricity bills. And can you imagine? We might even be able to go on vacations to Mars!
Our daily lives will be filled with new technologies that help us with things we hate doing now. We'll
probably have robots in our homes called "House Robo’s" that will help us with household chores like taking
out the trash, cooking, and cleaning the house. Even our kitchen gadgets like the fridge, cooker, microwave, and
dishwasher will be "robotic” and send us emails or texts when food is expired or running low. The fridge will
even have a camera inside, so when we're at the store, we can check what we need to buy.
They say that by 2050, we’ll have regular health check-ups at home using digital devices. These devices
will scan our bodies to check if we're sick or if anything is wrong. If they find something, a "virtual doctor" in
the machine will figure out what it is and give us treatment right away. If we need medicine, it will be ordered
and sent to us automatically. If the health check shows that someone is overweight, it will send a message to the
household computer to change their diet and schedule gym sessions. With such swift intervention, people will
live significantly longer, as diseases and cancers will no longer pose existential threats. Moreover, rare medical
conditions of today will be better understood and readily curable.

Identity and the ways we define it are constantly shaped by history. Socio-cultural exchanges in the
region have helped establish a sense of a Southeast Asian identity.
In shaping ASEAN Identity, arts and culture have a significant role to play. Artistic and cultural
exchanges between Southeast Asian nations expose people to different worldviews and ways of life. They allow
ASEAN people to become aware of cultural similarities as well as differences. Discussions alone cannot
promote cultural understanding. What we need is to continuously take part in artistic and cultural activities and
exchanges to become appreciative of each other’s society and culture. The art community has been leading such
exchanges for many decades. In visual arts, the countless festivals, biennales, and other collaborative activities
have brought together artists from different parts of Southeast Asian countries. These efforts have taken artistic
practices into a whole new level and resulted in an array of artistic works that stretches from one corner of
Southeast Asia to the other. Governments should play a facilitating role in this bottom-up process of regional
identity-making.
We begin with an awareness that each culture has been influenced by and have similarities with other
cultures. Hybridisation, resulting from borrowing and adoption of cultural elements of other societies, is a
historical fact. Having said these, ASEAN Member States are still very much culturally diverse. We should pay
serious attention to each other’s cultural differences and specific cultural contexts to preserve national identities
while building regional harmony. We believe that such cultural diversity is not an obstacle to development. In
fact, we believe that cultural diversity is the foundation of sustainable development. ASEAN Member States’
distinct cultural practices allow each state to respond to complex sustainable development challenges such as
climate change, migration, rapid population growth, food insecurity, land degradation, war and conflict in
different ways. But our efforts can be complementary and can have spaces for collaboration. Our diverse
cultural expressions can be channelled to create cultural and creative industries. Everywhere in the world today,
cultural economy is on the rise. We need to invest in culture not only to improve people’s economic welfare, but
also to create a more tolerant and diverse society.
To foster ASEAN identity, we need to make an effort to strengthen our regional cultural ecosystem. Our
regional identity depends on the preservation of the cultural identities of each ASEAN Member state. Hence,
each state must work to nurture its unique cultural expressions while collaborating with other nations to expand
cultural exchanges and link our cultural and creative industries.

Globally we use more energy than ever before, and the demand is rapidly growing. Economic expansion
of emerging market economies, population growth and our increasing use of energy-consuming devices are
among the most important contributing factors. GLOBAL SUCCESS 11 35 About one-third of the radiation
hitting Earth’s atmosphere is reflected back out into space by clouds, ice, snow, sand and other reflective
surfaces. The other two-thirds is absorbed by the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere. As the land, oceans and
atmosphere heat up, they re-emit energy as infrared thermal radiation, which passes through the atmosphere.
Heat-trapping gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) absorb this infrared radiation and prevent it from dissipating into
space, giving rise to what we know as the greenhouse effect. The accumulation of CO2 and other greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere is the dominating driver of recent climate change. CO2 is estimated to be responsible
for 64 % of man-made global warming. Other greenhouse gases are released in much smaller amounts but still
contribute significantly to the overall warming effect, as they are much more potent heat-trapping gases than
CO2. The EU is taking action on many levels. One example is on fluorinated gases that are contributing less
than CO2 but still a particular point of concern in addressing climate change. They are used in several types of
products, such as in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump equipment. While fluorinated gases are
released into the atmosphere in smaller quantities than other greenhouse gases, they are extremely potent – they
produce a warming effect 23 000 times greater than CO2. For this reason the EU has decided to control their
use. The EU’s regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases aims at cutting the Union’s emissions by two-thirds
compared to 2014 levels. Chemicals are not only part of the problem – they are also part of the solution.
Sustainable energy sources like solar power rely on chemical innovation using, for example, nanomaterials. One
of the main challenges with renewable energy is how to increase its viability with the help of energy storage
solutions. For example, solar panels have the best conditions in the desert, but that is not where most people
live. Windmills also produce power during the night, which is when our energy consumption is at its lowest. In
other words, technologies to improve energy storage and transportation is one of the important areas of research
where innovation is needed.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions.
Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy. Solar energy is the
cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available, and the U.S. has some of the richest solar
resources in the world. Solar technologies can capture this energy for a variety of uses, including generating
electricity, providing light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, commercial,
or industrial use.
There are three main ways to capture solar energy: photovoltaics, solar heating & cooling, and
concentrating solar power. Photovoltaics generate electricity directly from sunlight via an electronic process and
can be used to power anything from small electronics such as calculators and road signs up to homes and large
commercial businesses. Solar heating & cooling (SHC) and concentrating solar power (CSP) applications both
use the heat generated by the sun to provide space or water heating in the case of SHC systems, or to run
traditional electricity-generating turbines in the case of CSP power plants.
Solar energy is a very flexible energy technology: it can be built as distributed generation (located at or
near the point of use) or as a central-station, utility-scale solar power plant (similar to traditional power plants).
Both of these method scan also store the energy they produce for distribution after the sun sets, using cutting
edge solar storage technologies. Solar exists within a complex and interrelated electricity system in the U.S,
working alongside other technologies like wind power to transition the U.S. to a clean energy economy. All of
these applications depend on supportive policy frameworks at the local, state and federal level to ensure
consumers and businesses have fair access to clean energy technologies like solar.

questions.
Reforestation, whether by planning for natural regeneration or tree planting, allows for the accelerated
development of forested ecosystems following natural disturbance events such as wildfire, wind events, and
insect and disease infestations, or planned timber harvest. This forest management practice helps to develop
forest structure and species composition to provide for wildlife habitat, clean and abundant water, forest wood
products, recreation opportunities, soil stabilisation, and so much more. Reforestation presents unique
opportunities to address emerging issues associated with climate change by conserving and managing tree
genetic diversity and capturing carbon to counter greenhouse gas emissions.
In some situations, relying on natural regeneration from existing tree seed and genetic sources may best
meet management objectives. While on other sites where the seed source has been lost due to a natural
disturbance, such as a stand-replacing wildfire or insects or diseases, tree planting may be needed to restore
trees to the site. Forest Service nurseries and seed extractories are a critical component of the reforestation
program, collecting seed ahead of reforestation needs, and assuring that healthy seedlings are available for
restoring native ecosystems.
“Growing and Nurturing Resilient Forests: A Reforestation strategy for the National Forest System” is a
focused effort to address current and future forest needs. Reforesting in the right place, at the right time, with
the right species, and at appropriate scales can change the current direction of ecosystem development. To be
successful, the agency must make complex land management decisions that include the best available science
and collaborations with a wide variety of partners, including nongovernmental organisations and other
government agencies. The Reforestation strategy provides the framework for fully addressing current and future
reforestation needs. The Forest Service will develop national and regional 10-year implementation plans that
will include the finer scale steps the agency will take to successfully increase the pace and scale of reforestation,
address existing needs, and anticipate future events.
The work also will help the agency meet provisions of the Repairing Existing Public Land by Adding
Necessary Trees Act, also called the REPLANT Act, which provided the agency with additional funding to
address the backlog of needed reforestation and a mandate to address post-disturbance needs.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions from 34 to 40.
The current status quo of global warming is a matter of great concern and urgency. Scientific evidence
overwhelmingly indicates that the Earth's climate is undergoing significant changes primarily due to human
activities. The burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, industrial processes, and other human-induced factors have
led to the excessive release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, trapping heat and causing the planet to
warm. The consequences of global warming are increasingly evident. Rising temperatures have resulted in the
melting of polar ice caps and glaciers, leading to a rise in sea levels. This poses a threat to coastal communities,
exacerbating the risk of flooding, erosion, and the displacement of millions of people worldwide.
Efforts to mitigate global warming and limit its impacts are underway, but the current trajectory is still
alarming. The Paris Agreement, a landmark international accord signed by nearly every country, aims to limit
global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to keep it
below 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, the world is not already on track to achieve these goals, and there is an
urgent need for increased ambition and accelerated action. Transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable energy
sources, such as renewable energy, is a crucial step in combating global warming. Countries and industries are
gradually shifting towards renewable energy technologies, but greater investments and policy support are
required to drive this transition at the necessary scale. Additionally, reducing emissions from transportation,
improving energy efficiency, protecting and restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable practices in
agriculture are vital components of comprehensive climate action.
The status quo of global warming demands immediate and collective action. International cooperation and
collaboration are essential. Countries must work together in addressing global warming. They can share
knowledge, resources, and best practices, supporting each other in adopting climate-friendly policies and
technologies. Furthermore, raising awareness and mobilizing public support for climate action is crucial to
driving widespread behavioral and societal changes that can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
