: INTRODUCTION:
MINI VIJAYAPUR WITH ALL MONUMENTS
• Barishpur - The Garden of Statues is a sculpture museum located in
Vijayapur, Karnataka.
• It is a model village created by Nirmithi Kendra in an area of seven guntas
in 2005 to demonstrate the basis of soil and water harvesting.
• The average rating of this place is 4.00 out of 5 stars based on 106
reviews.
• It is about 2.11 kilometers away from the Bijapur Junction railway station.
• A model of the ancient underground water supply system of the Adil
Shahi era is among the man eye-catching displays on water conservation
set up at Barishpur.
: The Aims of water conservation efforts include:
• “Conserving water has become an important aspect, the world over as
many countries are facing acute water scarcity. Considering this, a model
that would highlight importance of collecting rainwater, which is main
source of water in this world”.
• With less than 1% of the world’s water being fresh water, one aim is
ensuring the availability of water for future generations where the
withdrawal of freshwater from an ecosystem does not exceed its natural
replacement rate.
• Energy conservation as water pumping, delivery, and wastewater
treatment facilities consume a significant amount of energy.
• In some regions of the world, over 15% of the total electricity
consumption is devoted to water management.
• Habitat conservation where minimizing human water usage helps to
preserve freshwater habitats for local wildlife and migrating waterfowl,
but also water quality
: WATER CONSERVATION:
CONSERVE WATER TODAY FOR A SUSTAINABLE TOMARROW
• Water conservation includes all the policies, strategies and activities to
sustainably manage.
• The natural resource of fresh water, to protect the hydrosphere, and to
meet the current and future human demand (thus avoiding water
scarcity).
• Population, household size and growth and affluence all affect how
much water is used.
• Factors such as climate change have increased pressures on natural
water resources especially in manufacturing and agricultural irrigation.
• The key activities to conserve water are as follows: any beneficial
reduction in water loss, use and waste of resources, avoiding any
damage to water quality; and improving water management practices
that reduce the use or enhance the beneficial use of water.
Water-saving technology for the home
Includes:
PRESERVE WATER, PRESERVE LIFE
• Faucet aerators, which break water flow into fine droplets to
maintain "wetting effectiveness" while using less water.
• An additional benefit is that they reduce splashing while washing
hands and dishes.
• Raw water flushing where toilets use sea water or non-purified
water Wastewater reuse or recycling systems.
• Reuse of gray water for flushing toilets or watering gardens
• Low flow taps in wash basins Swimming pool covers that reduce
evaporation and can warm pool water to reduce water, energy and
chemical costs.
: DESCRIPTIVE:
• Ever heard of a village whose sole purpose is to create awareness
about the basics of rainwater harvesting? Welcome to ‘Barishpur’
near Vijayapur, a model village created by Nirmiti Kendra in an
area of seven guntas in 2005 to demonstrate the basics of soil and
water conservation.
• The ingenious village has model shops, temples, schools, hospitals
and houses, and every drop of rain that falls on these structures is
collected.
• There are demonstrations that stress on the necessity of judicious
use of water.
• The demonstrations also include different types of houses— tiled
roof, thin roof, terraced roof, cement sheet roof —incoporated
with rainwater harvesting systems.
CONCLUSION:
• The structures here also intrigue history buffs through demonstrations
on the remarkable water management systems developed by the Adil
Shahi rulers of Vijayapur.
• It is said that water conservation was known in this region in the days of
Adil Shahi rulers.
• In fact, in areas surrounding Vijayapur, the kings had constructed
• canals, wells and other structures to collect rainwater.
• This water would then be directed towards the fort in the town for use.
• Rainwater is a priceless resource of nature. It is the source of water for
our wells, lakes, rivers and more.
• Today, some of these water sources are going dry while some are
getting polluted. This in turn has affected us in many ways.
