Research (Explore the various options and forms one or more hypotheses that best states the
Question objective of the research. this should focus the researcher’s attention. In order for you
to arrive at the research question, you must first identify the dilemma.)

General: The purpose of the study is to ascertain whether the ampalaya

cookies will be sustainable and able to sustain itself for a long time.

Specific: This study seeks to answer the following specific questions:

1. To know the marketability and profitability of ampalaya cookies in

terms of:
a. Taste
b. Appearance
c. Cost
d. Location

2. To know whether the consumers would prefer products manufactured

by Bitter Co. than other businesses related to ampalaya cookies in
terms of:
a. Taste
b. Appearance
c. Cost

3. How can Bitter Co. attract and retain its customers for the long-term run
of the business?

Brief Background/ Concept Description

(Summarize the essence of your business)

In the Philippines, bitter gourd, often referred to as ampalaya or bitter

melon, is a common veggie. Despite being a great source of vitamins, minerals,
and antioxidants, many people find it unattractive due to its harsh flavor. To find
strategies to lessen the harshness of bitter gourd, numerous investigations have
been carried out. Because of its bitterness, which can be an acquired taste, a lot
of research has been done to identify the components that cause it and create
mitigation or reduction techniques. To increase bitter gourd's accessibility and
appeal to a larger market while maintaining its nutritional value, researchers are
working to improve it. These initiatives support the objective of encouraging the
inclusion of this nutrient-dense vegetable in a variety of diets.

Because of the potential advantages it offers in fostering healthy eating

habits, lowering the risk of chronic diseases, addressing food aversion,
enhancing culinary options, and bolstering local agriculture, research on
ampalaya cookies as a nutritious snack for non-ampalaya eaters is urgent.
Through the creation of appetizing and popular ampalaya cookies, scientists can
support sustainable food systems and enhance public health. This nutrient's
inclusion in snack form supports the overarching objective of encouraging dietary
choices that are health-conscious. Furthermore, ampalaya cookies might be a
remedy for people who have dietary aversions. providing a novel means of
incorporating ampalaya's health advantages into their meals without having to
deal with its potently bitter flavor.
In addition to broadening the palette, this promotes culinary originality and
inventiveness. Additionally, by using bitter gourd to make these cookies,
researchers are encouraging the production and consumption of regional
\
vegetables, which indirectly supports local agriculture and supports sustainable
food systems. In essence, the study shows a comprehensive approach to
sustainable agriculture methods, gastronomic inquiry, and public health.
Researc (Describe your research goals and objectives. Objectives should be SMART.)
h
Objectiv The study's main objective is to gather data that will assist Bitter Co. to
es formulate strategic plans that are essential to enhancing the business's
competitive edge and fostering customer loyalty and satisfaction. By refining the
product's profitability and marketability, it aims to surpass the benchmark and
provide positive cash flows.

Specific objectives include:

⮚ Determine the factors that might motivate consumers to purchase the

product.
⮚ Figure out why consumers choose products from other firms over the goods.

⮚ Figure out how people might react if new products were adopted.

⮚ Determine the ideal price.

⮚ Figure out where consumer get information about the products

Opportunity (Why is this business project a good opportunity? What do you do best? What is the
(Significance of current opportunity and evidences/ gut feel do you have to support the demand? What
Research) is the potential size of your market? What are the critical trends and how will your
company exploit them? What is the compelling need?)

Considering the potential advantages of selling cookies, which can be

highly profitable when there are a lot of consumers, the business project's
scope will be beneficial for both consumers and entrepreneurs. The business's
offer objectives include setting and achieving goals for the product that will
establish a foundation to support demand, expanding services through digital
and physical transactions, and researching new flavor opportunities.

According to FBA or Food & Beverage Asia (2022), to assist consumers in

making and maintaining these healthier choices, the majority of consumers
(79%) also think that food firms have to voluntarily alter their product
compositions and recipes. Accordingly, three-quarters (76%) of Filipino
customers have expressed that they are open to using substitutes and
changing components in products to make them healthier.

In addition to the absence of product innovation, the production of

ampalaya cookies offers an appealing opportunity. Furthermore, as more and
more people choose snacks that will not only satisfy their cravings but also offer
health benefits, ampalaya will supply what the majority of consumers desire.
The product will be easy to introduce to the market considering cookies have
traditionally been a popular dessert or snack.

Produ (Describe the product or service that makes it unique. How is the product or service to
ct / be produced, delivered, and qualified to compete?)
Servic
e The majority of Filipinos have come to enjoy cookies and consume them as
\
a dessert or snack. As an alternative to regular cookies made with flour.
Ampalaya cookies are made with ampalaya as the primary ingredient. According
to Nature Claim (2024), ampalaya is a nutritious vegetable that contains
potassium, fiber, antioxidants, flavonoids, carotenoids, phenols, terpenes,
isoflavones, anthraquinones, glucosinolates, vitamins, and minerals that can
benefit consumers' health in a variety of ways. After being dried and crashed, the
Ampalaya is combined with flour, eggs, butter, and granulated sugar before
being formed into cookie dough. After that, each cookie will be packaged
separately in a Kraft pouch and a resealable cookie pouch.

In addition, the product will be distributed to bakeries, supermarkets, and

pasalubong outlets in Lingayen, Pangasinan. By consistently analyzing and
reviewing the product's quality, innovation, and customer demand, Bitter Co.
hopes to draw in and keep customers.

Value (Who is your target market? What are the benefits to the target market?)
Proposition
Eating desserts or snacks, particularly cookies, is ageless. Therefore, the
intended customer base for the company will be the snack-loving citizens of
Lingayen. Due to the fact the majority of Filipinos grew up eating cookies, they
are a popular snack and dessert in the Philippines.

Furthermore, using crushed ampalaya to make cookies will be a healthier

alternative to chocolate or vanilla. Vitamin C, an essential element involved in
bone development, wound healing, and illness prevention, is particularly
abundant in ampalaya (Healthline, 2023). For customers who enjoy snacking
and are health-conscious, the ampalaya cookies will be a healthy dessert and
snack. The ampalaya cookies give customers the nutrition they need to support
their health in addition to satisfying their craving for snacks.

Promotion (What are the key elements of your promotional activities? How will you sell your
al product and promote your business?)
Activities
An essential component in the company's success is increasing client
awareness. Improving product awareness resulting in increased sales is a crucial
operation. Bitter Co. viewed media production as one of its advertising
campaigns since it allows the business to use visual aids, like advertisement, to
educate consumers about its products. It will be a beneficial instrument for
reaching the product's target markets and introducing it. Revenue generation is
an additional efficient means of promoting the business and its products. A
product or service's demand is increased by this marketing effort, which in
response generates sales of that product or service.

Competiti (Who is your competition? What is your competitive advantage?)

ve
Advantag Bitter Co.’s competitors in the business's chosen target markets and locales
e include Otap, Paborita, Puto Seko, Rosquillos, Biscoff, and a few less prominent
cookie manufacturers. The company's innovative and unique product and
packaging offer it a competitive edge. As compared to other cookie
manufacturers, Bitter Co offers its target market a new taste in addition to the
typical cookies that many consumers have become attached to consuming.
Consumers' lips and palates will experience a new flavor through the product. In
addition to giving them a new taste, using ampalaya in the cookies will allow
them to benefit from the ampalaya's health benefits.
\
In contrast to the typical cookie bag, the ampalaya cookie will also be
packaged in a resealable cookie pouch to make it look better and more
appealing. Additionally, because the product was well-packaged, consumers
might have felt sure that it was safe and clean when they bought it.

Management (Who is the management team and why will they make a success of the venture?)
Team
Ten entrepreneurial people, Angel Bucaloy, Christian Bustamante, Perlyn
Costes, Mary Lyn Joy Cuison, Joana Mae Dela Carsil, Kristine Joy Luntao,
Queene Elizabeth Padua, Dione Justine Reyes, Denise Angelica Tamayo, and
Janine Ivy Vinluan, will oversee Ampalaya Cookies, the proposed manufacturing
business to introduce and promote a new product that would surely meet
consumer desire. They learned how to think critically and examine the pieces in
place, and their status as business students gave them the knowledge,
experience, and abilities that opened their eyes to a world of opportunities.
Though it may not ensure total success in a competitive setting, understanding
the many entrepreneurship concepts and principles can be beneficial as it will
make students more risk-takers, critical thinkers, and life-ready. Furthermore,
exposure to the pros and cons of the corporate world was extremely beneficial to
them as it broadened their prospects in the business realm.

Methods (Briefly describe your research design. How would you collect and prepare data?)
and
Technique The researchers will utilize a descriptive research design to assess the
s feasibility of the proposed study. The purpose of this study is to gather
information and data to characterize the trend's current status. The scientific
method of observing and characterizing a variable's behavior without altering or
modifying it in any manner is known as descriptive study design.

For gathering the data required to assess the profitability and long-term
sustainability of the suggested firm, the researchers will employ a survey
questionnaire. The researchers' comprehension and knowledge of company
management will be enhanced by this approach.

The researchers will prepare a letter and submit it to the study participants to
formally begin their inquiry. After the letter is approved, survey questionnaires
will be used by the researchers to gather data from respondents. The success
of the planned firm would be greatly impacted by the researchers' prompt
analysis and summarization of respondents' comments regarding their
preferences after data collection.

Identifying ● What business must we get into? What does the market need (market
business potential)?
opportunitie
s The snack manufacturing sector is the business the researcher is entering.
Since more individuals are experimenting and trying new recipes and cutting-
edge culinary innovations, the snack manufacturing sector is one of the
developing industries and a good place to invest.

As Filipinos' health consciousness grows, the market needs a better snack

option that yet satisfies their passion of nibbling. 79% of respondents to a study
conducted by FBA or Food and Beverage Asia in (2023) think that food
producers ought to voluntarily alter the ingredients of their products to encourage
consumers to stick to these healthier options.

● Is there a GAP between supply and demand?

Since the onset of the pandemic, Filipinos have become more interested
in snacks and desserts, which is linked to the rise in food trends that have
acquired popularity during quarantine (Malasig, 2021). This interest in healthier
pastry snacks and desserts continues to this day and is seen to be increasing.
Ampalaya, known for its distinct bitterness, is not a favorite vegetable for many
people. However, despite its bitterness, it can provide a lot of health benefits.
Bitter Co.’s ampalaya cookies give consumers a new way of acquiring nutrition
from ampalaya.
\

● Capitalize on available resources.

The production process of a company's products requires resources.

Resources are the main items that a firm must buy or invest in when it first starts
up. They can accomplish the company's goals with the use of these resources.
Bitter Co. need these resources to manufacture ampalaya cookies, which it
then distributes and supplies to other establishments such as bakeries,
supermarkets, and pasalubong centers. Raw materials, land, and capital
resources are the resources that must be acquired or invested to manufacture
the ampalaya cookies. The inputs or unprocessed primary materials required to
create the product are known as raw materials. The land is a natural gift that can
be utilized as a commercial manufacturing site. The buildings and machinery
used in the business and commodity manufacturing are known as capital
resources.

● Explore forward-backward industry linkages.

Bitter Co. is a manufacturing company that distributes its goods from one
company to another, with a wholesaler or retailer working alongside the
manufacturer. Bitter Co. also uses e-commerce to increase revenue in this well-
known sector. Bitter Co. keeps refining its strategy plan to assure the maximum
cash flow of commerce in light of the company's projected growth. To meet the
shifting market demands, the business will also engage in an ongoing research
and development process.

● If we went into this business, would it assure us of a fair return?

Ampalaya cookies guarantee that customers will sample a new cookie taste.
Some customers now consider snacks and desserts to be comfort foods. Bitter
Co. can take advantage of the fact that consumers are open to learning about
and trying new food innovations.

● Indicators in screening business options:

⮚ Ease of entry

With the convenience of cookie production, this type of business is easy to

enter. However, some regulations must be followed to enter the snack
manufacturing sector, and before the product is distributed to clients, its quality
must be guaranteed. The presence of powerful brands may also deter potential
newcomers from entering the market. Additionally, by taking customer comments
into account, the researchers will promote innovation and ongoing product
improvement.

⮚ Degree of risk involve

Moderate. In comparison to other firms, the amount of financial capital

needed is lower. However, there may be a significant chance that natural
\
disasters would impact its supply, and the number of competitors could expand
quickly.

⮚ ROI

A business's return on investment (ROI) shows its investors how much cash
return they may anticipate receiving as a result of their investment. By comparing
profits or losses to the value of loaned capital, this performance evaluation
establishes the worth of a contribution. The researcher anticipates that Bitter Co.
will generate a healthy return, which will serve as a compelling argument for
carrying on with the firm.
