Nobel Prize in Medicine
• The 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to
Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun. He was honored for
the discovery of microRNA (miRNA) and its role in
post-transcriptional gene regulation.
Rank of India in the ‘Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024’
• India ranked 39th among 133 global economies in the
Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024. It is also 1st among
10 economies in Central and Southern Asia and 1st
among lower-middle-income economies. India ranks
4th in the World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO) Science & Technology Cluster Ranking.
Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai are in the
World’s Top 100 S&T clusters. India is 7th globally in
intangible asset intensity, up from 81st in 2015. GII

• Former Japanese Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba has
been chosen as the next Prime Minister of Japan. He is
set to take the oath next week. Notably, the ruling
coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party currently
controls the parliament.
Andro, recently bagged ‘Best Heritage Tourism Village
Award 2024’
• Andro Village in Manipur won the Best Tourism Village
award in the Heritage category at the 2024 Best
Tourism Villages Competition. The award was given by
the Ministry of Tourism during World Tourism Day
celebrations in New Delhi. The village’s rich cultural
heritage and unique traditions, including centuries-old
fire worship, contributed to its selection. Andro
Village’s cultural heritage and historical temple attract
tourists from around the world.

• The Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Mithun
Chakraborty this year.

Scheme launched by central government to enhance
youth employability in India
• The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was recently
launched to improve youth employability in India by
giving practical experience in business environments.
It aims to offer internships to one crore youth in the
top 500 companies over five years. The Ministry of
Corporate Affairs will oversee the pilot project via an
online portal. Interns will receive a ₹4,500 monthly
stipend from the government, plus ₹500 from
companies through CSR. A one-time grant of ₹6,000
Languages were recently granted classical language
status in the latest Union Cabinet decision
• The Union Cabinet recently approved classical
language status for five languages: Marathi, Bengali,
Pali, Prakrit, and Assamese. This addition increases
the total number of classical languages in India to 11.
Classical languages hold significant cultural and
historical importance, and the recognition brings them
special status for preservation and promotion.
Mexico’s first female president
• Claudia Sheinbaum made history as Mexico’s first
female president, succeeding outgoing president
Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Her rise to leadership
is a significant milestone, reflecting Mexico’s progress
in gender equality in politics. Previously serving as the
first female mayor of Mexico City, Sheinbaum’s
presidency continues the progressive agenda of the
Morena party, emphasizing social justice and political
reform.
State government recently launched the ‘Nijut Moina’
scheme for girl students
• The Assam state government has recently launched a
scholarship scheme ‘Nijut Moina’ for girl students.
Under this, monthly scholarship is being provided to
girl students from class 11 to post-graduation. The
first instalment of ₹1,000 for higher secondary, ₹1,250
for degree and ₹2,500 for postgraduate students was
distributed at a statewide programme.
Launched the logo, website and app of the upcoming
Mahakumbh Mela 2025
• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched
the logo, website and app of Maha Kumbh Upcoming
2025 during Sharadiya Navratri. This logo depicts
‘Amrit Kalash’, a symbol of religious and economic
prosperity, which is associated with the mythological
story of Samudra Manthan.
State government gave the status of 'Rajyamata-
Gomata' to the indigenous cow in October 2024
• The Maharashtra government has granted the
indigenous cow the status of 'Rajamata-Gomata.'
• Maharashtra is the first state in the country to do so.
• Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that
indigenous cows are a boon for our farmers.
• The government mentioned that this decision was
taken due to concerns over their declining numbers.

• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has
appointed former IPS officer Sharad Kumar as the new
chairman of its Anti-Corruption Unit. Before this,
Sharad Kumar has also been the head of National
Investigation Agency (NIA). His tenure started from
October 1, he will remain in this post for 3 years
Three countries signed a trilateral power trade deal for
electricity exports
• India, Nepal, and Bangladesh have signed a trilateral
power trade agreement that allows Nepal to export 40
MW of electricity to Bangladesh via India’s grid,
utilizing the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.
The agreement not only facilitates the export of
electricity but also involves plans for the Sunkoshi-3
hydropower project and a study for developing a new
cross-border transmission line, further strengthening
regional energy cooperation.
Won the Irani Cup title after a 27-year gap
• Mumbai has clinched the Irani Cup title after a 27-year
wait, marking a significant achievement for the team.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, the reigning Ranji champions
drew the match against the Rest of India after taking a
first-innings lead. Despite early challenges in their
innings, a remarkable double century from Sarfaraz
Khan helped Mumbai to a total of 537 runs. In

Appointed as the new Director General of the Sports
Authority of India (SAI)
• Sujata Chaturvedi has taken over as the Director
General of the Sports Authority of India (SAI),

serving as the sports secretary of the sports ministry,
assumed her new role on October 1, 2024. Notably, she

• Dubai
• World Green Economy Forum launched in Dubai. It is
organised to bring together global leaders and experts
to tackle serious environmental challenges. Its theme

PM Modi launch ‘Dharti Aba Tribal Village Development
Campaign’
• The occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Dharti
Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) from
Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. The total outlay of this
scheme with central and state cooperation is Rs
79,156 crore. The central government is giving a grant
of Rs 56,333 crore and the state government is giving
a grant of Rs 22,823 crore.
Country will host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in
2025
• India has been chosen to host the inaugural Kho Kho
World Cup in 2025, marking a significant milestone for
the indigenous Indian sport. The event will feature 24
countries from 6 continents, competing in both men’s
and women’s categories. The Kho Kho Federation of
India will also launch a grassroots initiative, promoting
the sport in 200 schools across 10 cities and aiming to
register 50 lakh players. By hosting the World Cup,
India aims to elevate the global profile of Kho Kho,

• The Ayush Medical Value Travel Summit 2024 was
inaugurated in Mumbai with the theme ‘Global Synergy

• EURONAVAL 2024, the world’s leading naval defence
exhibition, will be held from November 4-7, 2024, in
Paris. Around 500 exhibitors are expected, across five

national pavilions. India is among 104 countries
invited to attend this major naval defence trade show.

• Alexander Dunn won the 2024 SASTRA Ramanujan

32. The age limit honors Ramanujan’s achievements

Central government has increased the minimum wage
rate
• The central government announced an increase in the
minimum wage rate for workers in the unorganized
sector on September 27.

• Unskilled Workers: ₹783 per day, which amounts to
₹20,358 per month.
• Semi-Skilled Workers: ₹868 per day, totaling ₹22,568

First edition of ‘Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav’ inaugurated
• President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 8th
Bhartiya Kala Mahotsav on 28 September 2024 in
Secunderabad, Telangana, focusing on the North-
Eastern states. The festival runs from 29 September to
6 October 2024, showcasing the art, culture, crafts,
and culinary diversity of the North-East. Over 300
artists and artisans from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three Param
Rudra (PARAM Rudra) supercomputers to the nation,
with a total cost of around ₹130 crore. These
supercomputers, developed under the National
Supercomputing Mission (NSM), have been installed in
Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata.

• In the IMD World Talent Ranking 2024, India is ranked
58th globally, with a talent score of 40.47 out of the 67
economies surveyed. The ranking assesses the
competitiveness of economies based on their ability to
