D. DISCUSSION
Let’s start our discussion class!
Kindly read our topic for today, class. Types of Evidence
Can you still recall about the word
EVIDENCE from our first meeting, class? Yes, sir!
If so, then what is the definition of Evidence is information, facts, or data
Evidence? that support or prove a claim, assertion,
or argument. It can take various forms,
including statistics, examples, expert
testimony, and observational data.
That’s right!
Evidence helps make our arguments more
convincing and allows others to understand
and believe in our ideas.
Let me ask you a question.
Why do we need to present the evidence,
class? We need to present evidence because
it helps strengthen our arguments,
I want you to go back and reflect what we shows that we have done our research,
did a while ago. builds trust with our audience, and
makes our points clearer and more
persuasive.
Exactly!
Without evidence, people are less likely to
believe our claims because they have no
basis for trust or understanding. Evidence
acts as a foundation that validates our

statements, whether through statistics,
examples, or expert opinions. When we
make assertions without backing them up,
they can come across as mere opinions or
assumptions, which may lead to
skepticism.
There are 4 types of evidence namely,
Statistical. Testimonial, Anecdotal and
Analogical.
In order for us to know more about these
types of evidence, let me group you into 4.
(The teacher divides the class into 4) (students will go to their respective
group)
Attention, everyone!
Now that you're settled with your groups,
please follow these instructions for our
activity
I will give each group one of the colored
envelopes containing examples of different
types of evidence.
First, open your envelope and read
through the examples together to
ensure everyone understands them.
Discuss within your group what type of
evidence is in each example and how
effective you think each one is for
supporting a claim.
Next, sort the examples into these
categories: Statistical Evidence (data or
numbers), Testimonial Evidence
(personal accounts), Anecdotal
Evidence (stories or experiences), and
Analogical Evidence (comparisons).
Finally, prepare to share your findings

Is the instruction clear, class? Yes, sir!
Before we proceed to your respective Cooperate
group, what are the things we need to do
when we are doing an activity? Do not make unnecessary noise.
Listen
Very good!
You now have 15 minutes to complete the
activity. The time starts now!
Group 1: Statistical Evidence
According to a recent survey
conducted by the Fitness Research
Institute, 75% of participants
reported feeling significantly happier
after incorporating regular exercise
into their daily routines. The study
followed a diverse group of
individuals over six months,
measuring their mood levels and
overall well-being before and after
starting an exercise program. This
data suggests a strong correlation
between physical activity and
improved mental health.
Group 2: Testimonial Evidence
As a long-time smoker, I can
personally attest to the positive
changes that came after I decided
to quit. 'I had been smoking for over
a decade and thought I could never
give it up,' says Jane Doe, a former
smoker. 'After I finally made the
decision, I noticed improvements in
my health within weeks. I could
breathe easier, my energy levels
soared, and I felt a sense of
accomplishment that boosted my
confidence. Now, I encourage

others to consider quitting for their
health.
Group 3: Anecdotal Evidence
When I made the decision to start
eating healthier a couple of years
ago, I didn’t realize how much it
would change my life. For instance,
I used to feel tired by noon, often
relying on caffeine to get through
the day. However, after switching to
a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and
whole grains, I noticed a remarkable
difference. Not only did I have more
energy throughout the day, but I
also found that I could work out
after work without feeling
completely exhausted. My friends
even noticed the change,
commenting on how much more
vibrant and energetic I seemed.
Group 4: Analogical Evidence
Just as a car needs regular
maintenance to run efficiently, our
bodies require proper nutrition and
exercise to function at their best.
Consider how a car owner routinely
checks the oil, rotates the tires, and
fills up on gas to ensure optimal
performance. Similarly, when we
prioritize balanced meals, regular
physical activity, and adequate rest,
we enable our bodies to operate
smoothly and effectively. Neglecting
these needs can lead to
breakdowns, much like a car would
suffer if not properly maintained.
Ok, time’s up!
Now, kindly pick a representative each

group so that they will present your work to

Let us all welcome, the Group 1!
Group 1, can you present your work to us The envelop we received is an example
and to your classmates? of Statistical Evidence. This is statistical
evidence because it uses a specific
percentage to show how many people
experienced a particular outcome. It’s
based on data collected from a survey,
which makes it reliable and measurable.
Very good, Group 1!
Now, let’s hear it from the Group 2! The envelop we receive is an example
of Testimonial Evidence. This is
testimonial evidence because it’s a
personal account from someone who
has experienced the situation firsthand.
Jane's story adds a personal touch and
can resonate with others who might be
in a similar situation.
Fantastic findings, Group 2!
Let’s not forget the Group 3, class!
The content of the envelop we have is
Kindly give them a round of applause! an example of Anecdotal Evidence. This
is anecdotal evidence because it’s
based on an individual’s personal
experience. While it’s relatable, it
doesn’t provide statistical backing, so it
might not be as convincing on its own.
And last but not the least, let us all This text inside from the envelop is an

analogical evidence because it draws a
comparison between two different
things (cars and our bodies) to explain a
point. By using a familiar concept, it
helps people understand the

importance of maintaining their health in
a relatable way.
Kindly clap ourselves for a job well done! (students will clap)
Bear in mind that not all types of evidence
are strong. while each type of evidence has
its strengths, it also has weaknesses. It's
essential to consider the context and the
audience when choosing which type of
evidence to use in an argument.
Alright! In all types of evidence presented, Statistical evidence, sir!
what do you think is the most reliable?
Did you understand the topic, class? Yes, sir!
Excellent!
Why do you say so? It is based on data collected from a
large number of subjects, which can
provide a clearer picture of trends and
correlations. When collected and
analyzed properly, statistical evidence
can be objectively verified and is less
prone to personal bias.
And which of these 4 are the weakest? Anecdotal evidence, sir!
What made you think that Anecdotal
evidence is the weakest of all 4 types of Anecdotal evidence is the weakest type
evidence? because it lacks empirical support and
can be highly subjective, making it less
effective for supporting claims in a
persuasive argument.
Great Job, class!

Anecdotal Evidence: Involves personal
stories or anecdotes that illustrate a
situation but may lack generalizability.
Analogical Evidence: Draws
comparisons between similar situations
to highlight similarities and support
arguments.
Bravo!
In presenting evidence, it must be relevant,
meaning it directly relates to the argument
being made. It should be reliable, sourced
from credible and trustworthy origins.
Clarity is essential; the evidence must be
presented in a straightforward manner that
is easy to understand. Additionally, the
evidence should be sufficient, providing
adequate support for the claim. Finally, a
balanced approach is crucial, considering
opposing evidence to offer a fair
perspective.
I have a question, class?
Why is it important to consider various Considering various types of
types of evidence when forming an evidence when forming an opinion

gain a broader understanding of an
issue. By looking at different
evidence types, we can avoid bias
and ensure a fair evaluation of the
facts. This approach strengthens
our arguments, making them more
convincing to others.
it encourages critical thinking skills,
allowing us to analyze information
more effectively. Ultimately,
different types of evidence reflect
the complexities of real life, showing

IV. EVALUATION
Quiz: True or False
Direction: Read the statement carefully. Write True if the statement is correct and False if the
statement is wrong.
1. Anecdotal evidence is based on personal stories and experiences.
2. Statistical evidence uses numerical data to support claims.
3. Testimonial evidence is always considered unreliable.
4. Analogical evidence compares two similar situations to draw conclusions.
5. Anecdotal evidence is often used in scientific research.
6. Statistical evidence can help identify trends and patterns.
7. Testimonials can come from experts in a particular field.
8. Analogies are irrelevant when making persuasive arguments.
9. Personal experiences can sometimes sway public opinion more than statistics.
10. Statistical evidence is the only type of evidence that can be considered objective.
11. Anecdotal evidence can provide insight but is not always generalizable.
12. Testimonial evidence is usually based on rigorous scientific study.
13. Analogical evidence helps simplify complex issues by relating them to familiar concepts.
14. Statistical evidence can be manipulated to mislead people.
15. All types of evidence are equally valid in forming opinions.
V. ASSIGNMENT
Follow up: Write a 2-page reflection essay about the importance of presenting
evidence in a debate.
Advance: Please have an advance reading about three specific types of questions
lead to an opinion.
