I. Essay: (15 x2=30)


1. 25 year old male with past history of asthma and complaints of coughing, shortness of
breath even at night time, chest tightness, wheezing, suggestive of moderate persistent
asthma. (3+8+4)
a) Enumerate the drugs used for bronchial asthma.
b) Describe the mechanism of action, uses and adverse effects of inhaled
bronchodilators in therapy.
c) Write a note on mast cell stabilizers.
2. A 49 year old male is brought to the emergency dept with symptoms suggestive of classic
angina.
a) Classify Anti anginal drugs. (3)
b) Discuss in detail with suitable diagram on the mechanism of vascular smooth muscle
relaxant effect of nitrates and its therapeutic uses. (5)
c) Discuss the drug therapy in myocardial infraction. (4)
d) Add a note on Nicorandil. (3)
II. Write short notes on:
1. Mechanism of action and adverse effects of Ace inhibitors.
2. Amiodarone.
3. Vasopressin agonists.
4. A 70 year old woman came to OPD with complaints of pain in her right thigh muscle.
Duplex Ultrasonography indicates the presence of deep vein thrombosis in the affected
limb. The decision was made to treat this woman with Enoxaparin. Explain the
mechanism and uses of Enoxaparin. Also, state the reason for preferring Enoxaparin over
heparin.
5. Clinical importance of microsomal enzyme induction.
