Appointments
1. V. Narayanan is set to succeed S. Somanath as the next chairman of ISRO, and also as the secretary of the
Department of Space. He is currently the director of Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC),
Thiruvananthapuram; he took over as ISRO chief on January 14.
2. Victor Joseph T. appointed as the new project director of the GSLV-MKIII (Geosynchronous Satellite
Launch Vehicle Mk III) Project at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram. He
replaces Beena A.P.
3. Air Commodore Debakinandan Sahu Takes Over As Air Officer Commanding, Base Repair Depot
Tughlakabad. He took over the command from Air Commodore Rishi Seth.
5. Ashutosh Agnihotri has been appointed as the chairman and managing director of the Food Corporation of
India.
6. Kamal Kishore Soan has been appointed as the Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan
Mission, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
7. Tuhin Kanta Pandey has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
8. Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay appointed as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
9. Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of Telangana High Court was posted as the Chief Justice of the Bombay

12. The Prime Ministers Museum & Library (PMML) society and executive council have been reconstituted with

additional charge of secretary of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

18. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) on appointed Dhananjay Shukla as the president and
Pawan G Chandak as the vice president for this year.
19. Sanjiv Ranjan Appointed as Secretary General of Indian Ocean Rim Association, an inter-governmental

20. IAS officer Bhuvnesh Kumar took charge as the CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI),
which administers Aadhaar, on January 1, 2025. Mr. Kumar succeeds Amit Agrawal, who was also MEITY
additional secretary prior to his June 2023 appointment.

1. The Padma Awards for 2025 have been announced, with the President approving the conferment of 139
Padma Awards, including 1 duo case (where the Award is counted as one). The list includes 7 Padma
Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri Awards. Among the awardees, 23 are women, 10 are
from the categories of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, and 13 are posthumous awardees.
2. President Murmu conferred the National Sports Awards 2024 presented at a ceremony on January 17 at the
Rashtrapati Bhavan. Recipients of the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna include Manu Bhaker,

3. At the Republic Day Parade 2025, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs won the Best Tableau from Central

4. President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to the 27 recipient at the 18th

9. The President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam bestowed the highest honour of the city-state on

10. The Infosys Science Foundation (ISF) celebrated outstanding achievements in research and innovation by
awarding the Infosys Prize 2024 to six scholars during a felicitation ceremony, established the award in
2009. The award includes a gold medal, a citation, and a cash prize of $100,000.
11. The Prize Distribution Function of the 34th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2023-24 for Kendriya
Vidyalayas was held here at GMC Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, Parliament House

15. The 2025 Nuclear-Free Future Awards will honour S.P. Udayakumar, a key figure in resistance to the
Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli district.
16. Gopa, a novel authored by K. Aravindakshan, has won the Odakkuzhal Award for 2024, instituted by

17. Eminent director Aparna Sen was honoured with the ‘Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the

23. President approves conferment of Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards-2024 on 49 persons. It includes:
a. Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to 17,

24. The fourth edition of the Veer Gatha competition recognized 100 winners, including 66 girls, for educating

Anuja, a short film Written and directed by Adam J Graves, has secured a nomination for Best Live Action
Short at the 97th Academy Awards.
30. The President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Droupadi Murmu has approved
gallantry awards for 93 personnel from the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces, including 11
posthumously, on the eve of the 76th Republic Day. the gallantry awards include 2 Kirti Chakras (one
posthumous), 14 Shaurya Chakras (three posthumous), 1 Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 66 Sena Medals

1. Renowned singer P. Jayachandran, who sang over 16,000 songs across multiple languages, including
Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi, and was honored with awards like the J.C. Daniel Award and
Kalaimamani Award, has passed away.
2. India's leading cardiac surgeon, Dr. K.M. Cherian, who performed India's first coronary bypass surgery in
1975, has passed away. His autobiography, "Just an Instrument", was virtually launched at the Kerala Literary
Fest. Dr. Cherian was honored with the Padma Shri in 1991
3. Wing Commander (Retd) Dr. K. Ramchand ,Founder and Director of Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS),

passed away. She was 116 years old.

played a pivotal role in India's nuclear tests in 1974 and 1998, has passed away. He was a recipient of the

Mr. Baseball and a Hall of Fame broadcasting tenure, has died. He was 90.
12. David Lynch, the American filmmaker, writer and artist who scored best director Oscar nominations for "Blue

2. India has successfully tested the Bhargavastra, its first indigenous micro-missile system designed to counter
swarm drones. It was developed by the Economic Explosives Ltd.
3. Purulia Observatory: 1st astronomical observatory of Eastern India inaugurated in Bengal, Named Satyendra
Nath Bose Astronomical Observatory , established by the Satyendra Nath Bose National Centre for Basic

4. The Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission’s docking operation was successfully completed
on 16th January, 2025 . India becomes the fourth country after US, China & Russia
5. The Third Launch Pad project envisages the establishment of the launch infrastructure at Sriharikota, Andhra
Pradesh for the Next Generation Launch Vehicles of ISRO and also to support as standby launch pad for the
Second Launch Pad at Sriharikota. The total fund requirement is Rs. 3984.86 Crore.
6. India's space tech startup Pixxel launched three of its six hyperspectral imaging satellites aboard a SpaceX
rocket from California. The launch marks a milestone for the country's growing private space sector and for
Google-backed Pixxel, a five-year-old startup.
7. Jeff Bezos-led Blue Origin successfully launched its first orbital rocket “New Glenn” reusable rocket on its
maiden voyage. The launch vehicle, named after John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, successfully
reached orbit after its second-stage engine cutoff.

8. The Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad, part of the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO), has taken stride in the development of hypersonic technology. Recently,
it successfully conducted a groundbreaking ground test of an Active Cooled Scramjet Combustor for 120
seconds—marking India’s first achievement of this kind.
9. Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre of ISRO has dispatched the Crew Module for the first uncrewed mission of
Gaganyaan (G1) after successfully completing the integration of the liquid propulsion system, will be ISRO’s
first attempt to acquire human spaceflight capabilities.
10. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its historic 100th launch The GSLV-F15 with the
NVS-02 satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
11. As India’s research station Maitri in Antarctica is ageing, India is set to establish a new research station

12. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved Chimeric Antigen Receptor or CAR
T-cell, named Qartemi by Immuneel Therapeutics, for adult B-cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (B-NHL), a
common and aggressive type of blood cancer.
13. CSIR's Indigenously developed "Paracetamol" announced by Science & Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra
Singh, Karnataka-based Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals Ltd will utilize this breakthrough to produce
affordable paracetamol domestically.
14. The Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research
(ICAR) at Kasaragod, Kerala has launched ‘Kalpa Bhooma’, an organic manure, for growing vegetables,
fruits and flowers keeping mainly the needs of urban dwellers in mind.
15. India is gearing up to deploy its first human-operated underwater submersible as part of the Deep Ocean
Mission. The Deep Ocean Mission is an ambitious program initiated by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
16. Cipla announced the launch of CipAir, a mobile application designed to facilitate the first line of screening for

whole genome samples accessible to researchers across India and the globe.
21. The new Centre of Biodegradable Packaging at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) is working
towards — creating packaging that is as sustainable as a fruit. Traditionally, bioplastics were derived from
