COMMON RAIL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
COMMON RAIL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
• The supply pump raises fuel pressure and sends the high-pressure fuel to a
container device called the "common rail".

• The common rail then uniformly feeds high-pressure fuel to each of the fuel
injectors.

• Fuel pressure at the injectors can reach a maximum level almost 10 times
higher than nozzle pressure on the 4D33 engine of the Rosa Bus.

• Thanks to the high pressure, injected fuel atomizes better and more uniformly
mixes with air inside the combustion chamber.

• This allows fuel to be burnt more completely, producing higher engine

performance and lower amount of particulate matter (PM).
COMMON RAIL FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
• In the common rail system, an electronic control unit (ECU)
monitors various aspects of the engine (engine speed,
accelerator opening, coolant temperature, etc.) using information
from sensors.

• In accordance with these data, the electronic control unit has

precise control over the fuel injection quantity, fuel injection
timing, and fuel injection pressure in order to optimize engine
performance.

• The precise control of fuel injection ensure more efficient use of

fuel, which also contributes to higher engine performance.
WASTEGATE TURBOCHARGER

The turbocharger compresses air and thus forces more air into the intake
manifold, allowing more complete combustion and higher power output.
WASTEGATE TURBOCHARGER

High exhaust gas flow at high engine speeds can lead to excessive boost, resulting in engine
overrunning. A wastegate is provided to optimize the turbine wheel speed and boost pressure.
WASTEGATE TURBOCHARGER – MECHANISM & USE

• At low engine speeds, the boost pressure is low, the actuator does not
function and the wastegate valve remains closed. So All the exhaust
gases are directed into the turbine housing before exiting to the
exhaust pipe.

• At high engine speeds, the boost pressure exceeds a predetermined

level, the actuator opens the wastegate valve, allowing part of the
exhaust gases to bypass the turbocharger, thus reducing the boost
pressure and preventing engine overrunning.
FUEL FILTER & WATER SEPARATOR
On the BA bus, a water separator & fuel filter are fitted next to each other.

separated from fuel.
SINGLE-PLATE DRY CLUTCH SYSTEM– MECHANISM & USE
• The BA bus has a Single Plate Dry Clutch which utilizes a Direct power cylinder
clutch control system.

• When the clutch pedal is depressed, the brake fluid directly pushes the direct
power cylinder (clutch slave cylinder), which converts it into mechanical force
acting on the center of the diaphragm spring to disengage the clutch.

• Compared to the conventional hydraulic clutch control system, this mechanism

minimizes mechanical friction between clutch control components and allows
lighter pedal action, thus increasing service life and driving comfort.

• The single-plate dry clutch system includes one single large clutch disc which is
pressed directly against the flywheel.

• This dry clutch allows more direct engagement than a wet clutch, thus achieving
better fuel efficiency.
6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION M036S6

The M036S6 gearbox on the BA bus offers the following benefits:

• All gears receive shot peening treatment to increase surface strength and thus durability.
• The pot-type housing is easy to disassemble for maintenance.
• The gears are fully synchronized for smooth & quiet gearshifts, promoting driving comfort.
• The overdrive gear allows high-speed cruising at lower engine rpm,
thus improving fuel economy and reducing engine noise.
LADDER FRAME STRUCTURE
The BA bus shares its ladder frame with the Fuso FI medium-duty truck.
LADDER FRAME STRUCTURE - BENEFITS

• The Ladder Frame design minimizes stress on the joints and

significantly increases frame rigidity and torsional strength.

• Reducing stress on the joints also allows rivets to remain tight for
a longer period of time, hence increasing the service life of the
frame.
BODY STRUCTURE

The BA bus body features a Modular Bolted structure made of steel.

BODY STRUCTURE - BENEFITS
• The body employs a modular bolted structure in which separate body
frame members are fastened together using bolts.
• This greatly facilitates post-damage part replacement as the damaged
part can be easily removed by loosening the bolts.
• The bolts are chemically locked type, meaning they are fastened using a
thread-locking fluid which covers the thread surface of the bolts and nuts.
• This process forms a bond between the bolt and the nut which prevents the
bolted joint from loosening over time and increases corrosion resistance.
• As they are stronger than regular bolted joints, the chemically locked bolts
also help to reduce vibration.
FRONT SUSPENSION
• The front suspension consists of parabolic leaf
springs, shock absorbers, and stabilizer bar (not
shown in the image).
• The leaves are tapered (thick at the middle,
thinner at the ends), have equal length.
• There's a gap in between the leaves, thus
minimizing inter-leaf friction.
• Compared to a regular multi-leaf spring setup,
there are less leaves and the leaves are longer,
and thus more flexible.
• As a result, a softer and more comfortable ride is
achieved.
• The shock absorbers help absorb and dampen the shocks, and slow down the vertical
wheel movements, thus improving ride comfort and handling stability.
• The stabilizer bar help reduce body roll during cornering, therefore further promoting
stability and ride comfort.
REAR SUSPENSION

• The rear suspension consists of parabolic leaf springs & shock absorbers.
• The parabolic leaf springs ensure a soft and comfortable ride, and the shock absorbers
help to improve ride quality further by controlling the vertical wheel movements on
uneven road surfaces.
REAR AXLE

The BA bus employs a full-floating, banjo-type axle housing & hypoid gears for the rear axle.
REAR AXLE – FULL FLOATING AXEL TYPE

• A full-floating axle carries the vehicle weight with the axle case.

• Specifically, the axle case, which is much more rigid than the drive shafts inside, extends over the
mounting point of the suspension, thus taking the full load the vehicle weight.

• The drive shafts are fully covered by the axle case (thus the name "full-floating") and serve only one
function: Transmitting torque from the differential to the wheels.

• As a result, the drive shafts only endure stress of torque and are relieved from lateral bending force.

• This allows strong load bearing and ensures the longevity of the drive shafts.
REAR AXLE – BANJO TYPE AXEL HOUSING

• A banjo-type axle housing is shaped like a banjo with a hollow member at the center, which houses the
differential gears, and a pair of hollow tubes extending to the sides, which cover the drive shafts.

• This design allows the differential to be removed while the housing remains in place on the vehicle, thus
greatly simplifying maintenance.

• In addition, as the housing is solid from side to side, it is very robust and provides great load bearing
capacity.
REAR AXLE – HYPOID GEARS

• The reduction pinion and reduction gear are hypoid gears: the axis of the reduction pinion is
offset from (does not intersect with) the axis of the reduction gear.

• This design allows greater contact area of the meshing teeth, thus better tooth strength and
smoother, quieter operation compared to the bevel gear design, in which the axes of the
meshing gears intersect.
SAFETY

KEY SELLING POINTS

Assured active safety with:
• Powerful full-air brake system
• Anti-Lock Brake System
SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM

• The BA bus adopts a dual-circuit full-air brake system with S-cam drum brakes.

• The dual-circuit system is fail-safe: if one circuit fails, the other keeps working,
maintaining the necessary stopping power.

• The full-air brake system employs compressed air to transmit and apply the pressure
to the brake shoes.

• An air compressor compresses air, and send compressed air to air tanks. The air
tanks are designed to contain enough supply to stop the vehicle safely in case the
compressor fails.

• The S-cam drum brakes provide ample friction area with the drums. Coupled with
the compressed air assistance, powerful braking force can be generated.
SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM

Front (left) & rear (middle) S-cam drum brake & slack adjuster (right)

• The full-air system also allows very light brake pedal action, thus greatly reducing driver's fatigue and improving safety.

• A slack adjuster is equipped to adjust the brake shoe gap automatically. This ensures that there's no slack in the brake
shoe gap and the braking performance is optimized.

• An air dryer keeps moisture out of the supply air to ensure reliability for components of the brake system.

• The air dryer has a timed purging function: when the system pressure exceeds a preset level, the air dryer
automatically discharges the collected moisture.
PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM
• The parking brake acts on the rear wheels and employs a hand
control valve.
• When the parking brake is not engaged, air pressure in the brake
chamber compresses the parking spring, thus keeping the braking
shoes from contact with the drums.
• When the parking brake is engaged, compressed air is released
from the spring brake chamber, the parking spring extends, pushing
the brake shoes against the drums.
• This is a fail-safe system: in case air pressure is lost, the parking
brake is engaged to stop or prevent the vehicle from rolling.
EXHAUST BRAKE SYSTEM (EBS)
• Continuous use of the service brake system can cause great stress on the system, especially
when driving downhill, and can eventually cause brake overheating.
• This is extremely dangerous as the vehicle will lose its braking power since the overheated
brake disc/drum will become ineffective.
• The exhaust brake system is adopted to avoid this situation.
EXHAUST BRAKE SYSTEM (EBS)
• By default, the exhaust/engine brake function is linked to the service brake.
• In other words, the exhaust/engine brake is activated if the brake pedal is depressed, in order to increase the
combined braking power.
• If the brake pedal is released, the exhaust/engine brake is automatically deactivated.
• The combined braking power of the exhaust/engine brake and the service system can be excessive when driving on
slippery surfaces (Ex. When it rains).
• Depressing the exhaust/engine brake override switch disconnects the link between this function and the service brake.
• This allows the service brake to be used separately without the exhaust/engine brake function & have better control.
EXHAUST BRAKE SYSTEM (EBS) - BENEFITS

The Exhaust Brake System Offers The Following Benefits:

• Supplement the service brake & increase braking performance in general.

• Reduce stress on service brake system, especially when driving downhill.

• Reduce wear on service brake pad/brake shoe, reduce replacement cost.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
• Wheel lock-up can happen under hard braking or braking on low-traction surfaces.

• If the applied brake force is greater than the tire's grip limit, the wheel can stop rotating (locking up),
causing the vehicle to skid on the road surface.

• When the front wheels are locking up, the steering control is completely lost.

• The ABS prevents wheel lock-up, thus improving vehicle stability and steering control under hard braking.
(ABS) – WORKING PRINCIPAL
• The ABS constantly monitors the rotational speed of each wheel by using wheel
speed sensors.
• During braking, if the ABS detects lock-up tendency on one or more wheels (for
instance, a wheel is rotating at a speed significantly lower than the vehicle
speed), it reduces the brake force on that wheel so that it can turn faster,
preventing wheel lock-up.
• As the wheel begins to rotate again, the brake force is reapplied. This brake
pressure decrease/increase cycle is repeated so that optimal tire grip is
achieved to prevent skidding while allowing effective deceleration.
• Once optimal traction is gained on the wheels, the vehicle can be slowed
down and at the same time safely steered off of the obstacle or on the course
intended by the driver. The braking distance can also be shortened.
