NOTES
SOURCE
Benny the bookworm
1. Benny was a little bookworm who lived at the bottom of the garden with his
parents. He was very shy and spent most of his time reading. Benny had a vivid
imagination and he wanted to be a world-famous author when he grew up. At
school the other worms called him a nerd, because he was always somewhere in a
corner with his nose stuck in a book. He was so shy and reading all the time, so he
didn't know how to make friends.
2. Benny often got into trouble at home, because he forgot to do his chores. He was
just too busy reading, and his excuse would always be the same. He just wanted to
finish the last page of the story.
3. One day Benny was sitting in his usual place under the tree outside in the yard.
His mother had friends over and was baking pancakes for her guests. The oil spilled
from the frying pan and the tablecloth caught fire! The ladies were running out of
the house, screaming for help. Nobody knew exactly what to do. Benny heard the
screaming, and quickly ran inside to see what was happening.
4. The kitchen was engulfed in flames, and his mother looked very worried. She was
about to pour water onto the flames, but Benny shouted at her not to do it. He put
down his book and ran outside to grab a bucket full of sand to kill the flames. He
ran back inside and within a few minutes the fire was completely out.
5. All the ladies were amazed that he had saved the day. Suddenly he was the
bravest little worm in town. The adults were all impressed with Benny, and when he
was asked how he knew to put the fire out so quickly, he simply said that he had
read it in a book years ago.
6. All the parents started to force their kids to start reading too. They were sick and
tired of their children sitting in front of the television, playing video games and
watching TikTok dances. The other little worms were very cross with Benny,
because they didn’t want to read, but after a while their attitudes changed.
7. Soon the other worms, started to ask Benny to suggest books for them to read,
and Benny started to make friends. Years later when Benny grew up, he achieved
his lifelong dream, and he wrote his first book. It was a best seller, and all his
friends came to the book release party. They all praised him, and he was the
luckiest worm in town.
