STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
With quintillion bytes of data being generated every day, unarguably, we are in the middle of a
major paradigm shift where algorithms, data, computers, to be precise, play a vital role in
everyday life in every possible field of life. From ordering stuff off of eCommerce to making
major life decisions like insurance, investments, both online and offline activities are using
Computers and enforcing algorithms to make their lives easier. Even though it already feels like
a speedy change, I think there are significant changes yet to happen. As a person who isn’t
threatened by change but cherishes it and views it as yet another challenge, I chose to pursue my
Master’s to gain in-depth knowledge and be a pioneer amidst this shift. Being true to the
definition of an Engineer, I have excelled in foundational Computer Science courses,
Mathematics, acquired keen prowess in solving critical problems, which made me more
confident to opt for Computer Science as my Master’s major.
Technology is driven by need. Inventors often have an uncanny skill of resolving situations with
their innovations. But what separates engineers from mere innovators is the ability to recognize
the importance of sustainable technological solutions for the future. Although many of our needs
and predicaments remain the same, the answers keep changing with time. My ability to be
proactive in this matter makes me stand apart. I was really amazed by the potential of Computers
& Technology and their use in mechanical field when I was exposed to subjects like Computer-
aided Design (CAD), MAT-LAB and Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM). This motivated
me to do my final year project on Analysis of Railway Suspension System using MAT-LAB,
which involved learning MAT-LAB Simulink software.
Ever since my school days, I’ve been interested in the theoretical frameworks in Mathematics
and Sciences, which drive the physical world. I have received a good grades in my 10th and 12th
grade. Engineering, at this point of time, seemed as a natural extrapolation of my abilities and
interests. The amazing task of moving the world is the monopoly of machines, so I made
Mechanical engineering my choice. My undergraduate education at the MNM Jain engineering
college (Anna University) Foundation of Higher Education has provided a thorough exposure to
the various specialties available in Mechanical Engineering, thus stimulating interest in advanced
research.
During the last two years, besides the college academics I spent most of my time attending a
number of extra-curricular workshops, seminars and conferences in different fields of computer
science. I have acquired an excellent knowledge of programming languages like C, C++, JAVA,
and .NET through certifications done out my self-interest. I have also found penchant for
Network Security, Operating System and Data Structures.
This motivated me to do my final year project on Analysis of Railway Suspension System using
MAT-LAB, which involved learning MAT-LAB Simulink software.
During my course of Engineering, I have not limited myself to a particular area of Mechanical
Engineering. I have secured a GPA of 6.6 out of a scale of 10 in the field of Design. Also, my
keen interest to stay abreast with the evolving methods of designing has helped me in gaining an
appreciation for languages such as AutoCAD, Catia and Fluent.
My undergraduate engineering degree has left me with keen sense of appreciation for the need
for evolution of engineering & technology. A Master’s degree will further equip me with
intellectual depth and breadth along with greater practical knowledge to face the professional and
leadership challenges I will face in my career. After a good deal of self-evaluation, I’ve decided
to pursue graduate studies in COMPUTER SCIENCE. This decision naturally followed after
carefully considering my academic background and areas of work.
The ultimate goal of mine is to make a commendable and constructive career in the field and
contribute my bit to the society. A dedicated study in Computer Science would help me gain a lot
of experience, along with adding to my previous knowledge on the subject. Being a part of your
University will be an achievement that would motivate me towards my career goal. I would
regard my admission to your university not only as a great honor but also as a great
responsibility and challenge to prove myself. I look forward to getting an opportunity for an MS
in Computer Science from your university.
I believe that the Graduate Program in your University will provide me the opportunity to enable
further honing of my technical and analytical skills acquired thus far. I am fully aware of the
commitment and perseverance required for research and believe that my aptitude and motivation
will see me through challenge. I am also confident that given an opportunity, I can contribute to
the ongoing work in your graduate program in a productive manner. I therefore look forward to
joining your esteemed university for pursuing higher studies leading to Master’s Degree.
I strongly believe that I can match the high standards of your university and contribute fruitfully
to the research endeavors at your university. I would be grateful to you, if I am accorded the
opportunity to pursue my higher studies.
Thanking you,
Regards,
HARISH BOMMASANI.
