EXAMINATION RULES AND REGULATIONS
a. Rules and Regulations Governing the Conduct of Examinations
Examination means any activity required by the Senate of NAUB for the evaluation of students in
a programme of studies to which the following rules and regulations apply.
i. To be admitted to any examination, a student must have been registered for the course to
be examined and must have fulfilled all NAUB requirements concerning registration fee
or any other rules and regulations as may be issued by the Senate. He/ She must have also
fulfilled all departmental requirements regarding attendance, satisfactory completion of the
coursework, practical work or assignment, projects and any other requirements.
ii. A Student who is absent from an examination without a reason acceptable to the Senate
shall be deemed to have failed in that particular examination. Misreading of the
examination timetable shall not be accepted as a satisfactory explanation for the absence.
iii. A candidate shall be in the examination venue not later than 30 minutes before the
scheduled time of the examination and shall be seated at the appropriate seat.
iv. A candidate may be admitted up to thirty (30) minutes after the commencement of the
examination, but shall not be allowed extra time.
v. A candidate must sign the attendance form at the commencement of the examination and
countersign the form when submitting his/her script to the invigilator before leaving the
hall.
vi. Candidates must hand in their scripts to the invigilator when leaving the examination room.
vii. A student shall bring his/her examination card and /or identity card to an examination and
display it in a prominent position on his/her desk.
viii. During an examination, no student shall speak to any other student except to the invigilator,
where necessary. Any form of noise or disturbance is an offence.
ix. No book, printed paper or written document or unauthorised materials shall be taken into
an examination room by any student, except as may be stated in the examination paper.
x. The use of scrap paper is not permitted. All rough work must be done in the answer booklet
and should be crossed neatly, or in supplementary answer booklets, which must also be
submitted to the invigilator.
xi. No candidate is allowed to carry any handbag, briefcase, wrist watch, mobile phones, etc.

xii. A student must not, during an examination, directly or indirectly assist any other student
or permit any other student to copy from or otherwise use his/her paper. similarly, a student
must not accept assistance from any other student or use any other student’s paper.
xiii. A student shall write his/her examination number (not his name) distinctly at the top of the
cover of every answer book or separate sheet of paper.
xiv. At the end of the time allocated, each student shall stop writing when instructed to do so
and gather his /her script together, ready for collection by the invigilator.
xv. Except for the printed question paper where permitted, a student must not remove from the
examination room or mutilate any paper or other material(s) supplied.

b. Materials Allowed into the Examination Hall
Students are allowed to bring the following items into the Examination Hall:
i. Biro pens
ii. Pencils
iii. Erasers
iv. Sharpener
v. Ruler
vi. Mathematical sets (where necessary)
vii. Calculator
viii. Drawing instrument (where applicable)
ix. Any other material specified by the University's Examination Committee.
Students are advised to have their own as borrowing while the examination is in progress will not
be allowed, and there should be no jottings on any of them. No programmable calculator shall be
allowed, and where an examination condition forbids the use of a calculator, no calculator shall be
allowed.
c. Submission and Collection of the Scripts
Students must submit their scripts by hand to the invigilator and sign an attendance sheet stating
that they sat for the examination and submitted their answer scripts. It is misconduct for a student
to take out of the examination hall any of the answer booklets, answer scripts and material provided
by the University. A student may submit his answer script any time not earlier than one hour from
the commencement of an examination if he/she so wishes but must leave his question paper with
the invigilator, and may collect the question paper from the invigilator at the end of the
examination. Students will not be allowed back into the examination hall once they have submitted
their examination script.

d. Examination Offences and Punishment
OFFENCES PENALTIES
1. Impersonating another student, or being impersonated by another Expulsion
student with his/her cooperation during an examination
2. Exchanging names or identification numbers on answer scripts /sheets Expulsion
or question paper(s), examination cards, containing jottings, which are
relevant to the ongoing examination in the examination hall
3. Introduction and use of relevant unauthorized material(s) in the Expulsion
examination hall
4. Theft and or illegal removal of examination scripts Expulsion
5. Any kind of mischief is likely to hinder the smooth conduct of the Expulsion
examination. For examination. For example, causing fire, flooding or
engaging in physical violence.
6 A repeated offence which falls under rustication committed by a student. Expulsion
7. Destruction of the exhibit by the candidate Expulsion
8. Facilitating/abating/aiding cheating by another candidate Rustication
for one
semester
9. Students caught with unauthorized material(s) inside the examination Rustication
venue but didn’t use it. for one
semester
An act of misconduct (such as speaking or conversation) during the Rustication
10. examination which is likely to disrupt the conduct of the examination. for one
semester
11. Attempting to enter the examination venue with unauthorized Warning
material(s).
12. Writing on the question paper other than the student’s registration Warning
number.
13. Any other misconduct deemed by the Senate Committee on Examination Warning
to be related misconduct.
Notes: The categories of misconduct herein enumerated are not exhaustive and may include such
other acts, which the University may regard as a breach of the Examination Rules and Regulations.
