CORRUPTION IN INDIA
Corruption is today a world-wide phenomenon. Now-a-days corruption can be seen everywhere. It has not become so rampant and perpetuated overnight, but in course of time. A country where leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, SC Bose have taken birth and led a value-based life is also now facing the problem of corruption.
When we talk of corruption in public life, it covers corruption in politics, state governments, central governments, "business, industry and so on. Public dealing counters in most all government offices are the places where corruption most evident. If anybody does not pay for the work it is sure work won't be done. The older the system the weaker it grows and fails to solve the riddles of life that grows more complex every day. So men lose faith in it and let it drift down. At this point corruption takes over and plunges the entire society.
The situation as it stands today is that, corruption is no slur on any individual, it has by now become a way of life, it has been so closely woven into our life patterns that, no one thinks much about it. This is because the system has been let loose and in so many decades everyone, yes, everyone is so involved in corruption that the topic is not worth any discussions. Just as life style includes a bungalow, car, servants, club etc., it also includes corruption. The entire system has been affected by this virus and it is now like a cancer absolutely incurable. The cancer has spread throughout the body system and now there is no cure for it. Only in the early stages, if the cancer had been treated it may have never taken such a dangerous position.
The position in the country today is very pathetic that, it is a wonder who will punish whom for corruption? All! yes, all are neck deep plunged in this malady. When every organ of the system, every individual in the system is corrupt to the hilt, who is there to set things right? The fact is that today corruption has seeped deep into every corner of our system and there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
With the deadly combination of good and comfortable life, and no punishment for being corrupt gave a boost to the industry of corruption and the last straw on the camels back was this corruption being aided by the highest places of authority the politician. When there was absolute support from the highest rung of the social order, the politician, the very thought of leaving it was not to be. The best example for corruption in india is 2G Spectrum Scam A.Raja the then Telecom minister is accused of issuing 2G spectrum licenses to the non eligible private companies like swan telecom and uni tech at the throw way prices leading to a loss of 1.76lakh crores to the government. Nira Radia, the lobbyist and her conversation with the ministers and businessmen spiced up the whole case.
This is worsening the scenario. The main accused in the corruption cases are generally the influential people who can just smash the politics with their influence and wealth. Reshuffling and addition of new ministers is the only measure being taken by the PM so far in this matter.
Accost leaders like Anna Hazare, Kejriwal, Bedi have stood against corruption and have generated awful spirit among the aam admi against corruption. Lokpal bill discussion has become the part and parcel of every Indian.
Though it seems very difficult to control corruption but it is not impossible. It is not only the responsibility of the government but ours too. We can eliminate corruption if there will be joint effort. We must have some high principles to follow so that we may be models for the coming generation. Let us take a view to create an atmosphere free from corruption. That will be our highest achievement as human beings. Let us remember it is more difficult to improve a decayed system rather than make a new clean system. BY P.V.PRANEETH REDDY ECE , SEC-C (09100658/12)
