Out of Food?!

Come Grocery Shopping with

Me:
Intro

Hey friends! Welcome back to my channel!

Today, I want to share with you what happened when I opened my fridge and realized
I had absolutely no food at home!

Have you ever had that moment when you feel hungry, but there’s nothing to eat?
That was me yesterday.

So, I had to get ready and go out for some serious grocery shopping.
I’ll take you step-by-step through the whole experience from making my list, picking fresh food,
to chatting with people at the store.

Along the way, you’ll learn useful English words and real conversations that you can use anytime!

Let’s get started!

PART 1 : The Empty Fridge Crisis :

So, it all started yesterday morning.

I woke up feeling extra hungry. You know that kind of hunger where your stomach makes weird
growling sounds?
Yeah… that was me!

I walked straight to the kitchen.

I was dreaming of coffee… toast… maybe some eggs…

I opened the fridge with high hopes and…

Boom. Reality hit me.

The fridge was almost completely empty.

There was:

• One lonely lemon

• An almost empty jar of peanut butter
• A bottle of ketchup
• And a sad, dried-up carrot in the corner

I checked the freezer: just a half-eaten frozen pizza and some ice cubes.
Then I opened the cupboards...
No rice. No pasta. No cereal.
No coffee! Not even tea!

I looked at everything and said to myself:

“This is a food emergency. I have to go grocery shopping — right now!”

PART 2: Making My Shopping List:

I grabbed my notebook and sat down at the kitchen table to make a list.

I wrote down everything I needed:

• Fresh fruits and vegetables

• Bread, eggs, milk
• Cheese, yogurt
• Coffee, tea, juice
• Chicken and maybe some fish
• Pasta, rice, and spices
• And yes… something sweet. Chocolate or cookies!

I also added a few things for cleaning: dish soap, paper towels, and sponges.

I looked at my list and thought, “This is going to be a big shopping trip!”

PART 3 : Walking to the Supermarket:

I put on my sneakers, grabbed my reusable shopping bags, and headed out.

The sun was shining, and the weather was perfect — warm with a cool breeze.
Birds were singing, people were walking their dogs, and everything felt calm.

After about 10 minutes, I arrived at the supermarket. I wiped the handle of my cart with a
sanitizing wipe (just to be safe!), and then walked inside.

The automatic doors opened with a soft whoosh, and I was hit with the cool air inside.
Ahhh… I love that fresh supermarket smell kind of clean, kind of cold, with a little scent of fruit
and bread.

PART 4 : Shopping Time – Aisle by Aisle:

First stop: Fruits and Vegetables. I picked:

• Red, juicy apples

• Bright yellow bananas
• Sweet-smelling oranges

• Fresh green lettuce
• Ripe red tomatoes
• Purple onions
• A few cucumbers and carrots

I checked each item carefully. I like choosing fruits that feel firm and fresh.

Next, I went to the bakery section.

The smell of fresh bread filled the air — so delicious!
I picked a loaf of soft white bread and some whole grain rolls. I even treated myself to a small
croissant.

Then I went to the dairy section.

I grabbed a carton of milk, a dozen eggs, a pack of butter, and some cheddar cheese.
Everything looked neatly arranged and super fresh.

Conversation at the Meat Counter:

After picking some veggies and bread, I headed to the meat section, where a friendly worker was
standing behind the counter.

He smiled and asked:

Worker :
Hi there! What can I get for you today?

Me :
Hi! I’d like half a kilogram of chicken breast, please.

Worker :
Sure! Would you like it with the bone or boneless?

Me :
Boneless, please. And if you could cut it into small pieces, that would be perfect.

Worker :
No problem. I’ll cut it up for you. Anything else?

Me :
Hmm… yes. Do you have fresh salmon today?

Worker :
Yes, we do! It’s right here. Would you like a fillet?

Me :
Yes, one fillet, please. Not too big.

Worker :
You got it. Anything else?

Me :
No, that’s all for today. Thank you so much!

Worker :
You’re welcome! Have a great day!

After that, I headed to the dry foods aisle.

I found rice, spaghetti, a jar of tomato sauce, and a bag of lentils.
I also picked up a few cans of beans and corn.

Before leaving, I walked down the snack aisle — just for fun.
I picked up some dark chocolate (my favorite!), a small bag of chips, and cookies for later.

Finally, I grabbed some household items:

• Dish soap
• A sponge
• Paper towels
• A pack of tissues

I checked my list. Everything was done!

PART 5: Talking to the Cashier:

I walked to the checkout area. My cart was full but organized.

Cashier:
Hi! Did you find everything okay?

Me:
Yes, thank you. I found everything I needed.

Cashier:
That’s great! Do you have our store card?

Me:
No, I don’t. Is it worth getting?

Cashier:
Yes! It gives you discounts and points. It’s free.

Me:
Okay, I’ll think about it next time. Thanks!

The cashier began scanning my items. Beep. Beep. Beep.
I packed my groceries into my own bags as they were scanned.

Cashier:
Your total is $63.25. Will you be paying with cash or card?

Me:
Card, please.

Cashier:
Alright, you can tap your card when you're ready.
Beep!
Perfect. Would you like a receipt?

Me:
Yes, please.

Cashier:
Here you go! Have a great day.

Me:
Thanks, you too!

PART 6: Back Home and Feeling Good:

I carried two big bags in each hand. They were a little heavy, but I felt happy.
When I got home, I washed my hands, unpacked everything, and finally made myself a sandwich
and a cup of coffee.

The fridge was full again.

I looked at it and smiled:
“Now this is what a fridge should look like!”
