Movie Report: Hidden Figures

Title: Hidden Figures

Director: Theodore Melfi
Casts: Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson
Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan
Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson
Kevin Costner as Al Harrison
Jim Parson as Paul Stafford
Glen Powell as John Glenn

Exposition:
The film begins as it presents Katherine along with Dorothy and Mary who worked in
NASA's segregated West Area Computers division where African-American women operated as
staff. The workplace discriminates against these brilliant women on grounds of race and gender
during this period of civil rights advocacy and sparse scientific opportunities for Black women.

Rising Action:
The escalating space race drives NASA to recruit expert mathematicians who will assist a
human space mission launch program. The Space Task Group receives Katherine as its member
yet she faces discrimination before establishing her expertise. The story follows Dorothy who
works without a supervisory title and Mary who challenges for engineer training acceptance to
become qualified.

Climax:
During his orbital mission John Glenn personally asks Katherine to check his flight data
verification before liftoff and landing. The NASA experts consider her results superior to those
provided by the new IBM computer system. This breakthrough project showcases her brilliant
mind which earns Katherine her first ever deserving appreciation from others.

Falling Action:
NASA acknowledges the success of the mission by giving acknowledgment to its women
employees. The women receive their just recognition as Katherine attends meetings while Mary
enrolls at engineering school and Dorothy earns promotion from expertly using the IBM
computer. Their accomplishments lead to a transformation in how the organization handles both
women and minority individuals.

Resolution:
The film reveals how society recognizably celebrates the achievements of previously
dismissed female scientists. After NASA Katherine remains part of their organization to support
upcoming Apollo 11 mission activities. Their remarkable tale creates a heritage which motivates
younger generations to pursue careers in science technology engineering and math.

Lesson Learned:
Hidden Figures teaches us that courage, persistence, and intelligence can overcome even
the most ingrained systems of discrimination. It highlights the importance of equality and how
every person, regardless of race or gender, deserves recognition for their contributions. The film
encourages us to fight for our dreams and to stand up for what's right, even when the odds are
against us.

Hidden Figures in the Movie:

The title refers both to the complex mathematical figures used in NASA’s calculations
and the "hidden" human figures—Katherine, Dorothy, and Mary—whose contributions were
kept in the shadows of history. These women were essential to one of the greatest achievements
in space exploration, yet their names were not widely known. Their brilliance and resilience had
been hidden simply because of who they were. The movie uncovers their stories and gives them
the credit they truly deserve.

Watching Hidden Figures was an eye-opening and empowering experience. It was not
just a film about space and numbers—it was a powerful story of human strength, equality, and
determination. I was amazed by the way these women broke barriers without losing their grace
or intelligence. It reminded me that we must continue to uplift voices that have long been
silenced and to never underestimate someone because of their background. This movie left me
inspired to pursue my goals and to always stand strong in the face of challenges.

resolution. The film launches its narrative through a portrayal of women who work in the West
Area Computers division which operates under segregation although they demonstrate
remarkable intelligence abilities. NASA rushed to secure talented experts during the space race
which resulted in the assignment of Katherine to the Space Task Group while Dorothy learned
computer programming independently and Mary fought for her admission to engineering school.
The peak of the story comes when John Glenn's space journey becomes dependent on
Katherine's computational methods which reveals to her colleagues that she has greater
understanding in math than they first believed. Throughout the falling action the characters
sustain their achievements to melt obstacles while the story concludes by honoring their
pioneering works in this field.

The title Hidden Figures refers to space travel equations and the unrecognized
achievement of these female scientists. The movie presents important life lessons about facing
challenges persistently alongside the essential value of honoring everybody's achievements
without considering their racial or gender background. This movie provided both motivational
and educational value. Quiet determination possesses enough power to break down the most
