Tim Donaghy Case Summary
Introduction Edwin J. Delattre describes in Some Reflections on Success and failure in
Competitive Athletics that competitive athletics require a touchstone relationship of competitors
i.e. that competitors have a moral and logical obligation to not engage in cheating. Competitive
sports leagues and organizations have taken several measures to achieve competitive balance or
fairness in regards to the spirit of competition. Competitive leagues have implemented the draft
process to ensure that teams with the worst records are able to acquire top draft pick players to
help improve losing teams, and salary caps to prevent a select few teams from acquiring all of the
talented players and depriving the rest of the league from being able... Show more content on

First issue: according to Donaghy, he was placing bets on NBA games for four years. Donaghy s
admission beings into questions if other referees were aware of his activities and if other referees
were aware of Donaghy s fixing games were these other NBA officials were active participants in
this crime. If other officials were involved, it would question NBA commissioner David Stern claim
that Tim Donaghy was a rogue official fixing games only without any other NBA officials or
administrators assistance or knowledge of his illegal activities. Although FBI officials were only
able to prove Donaghy was the only official involved and Donaghy was the only official to be
indicted and convicted, it is difficult to convince many in the public that other official had no
knowledge or participated in betting on games, NBA commissioner Stern admitted suspicion of the
other NBA officials integrity will be an ongoing issue when according to author Michael Bush Mr.
Stern said he knew his referees would be under an incredible amount of scrutiny this season due to
last summer s betting and game fixing scandal involving then referee Mr. Donaghy. And with Mr.
Donaghy s latest allegations, Mr. Stern said it s no surprise some fans have become a bit distrustful.

Construction Worker Observation
On Thursday March 01, 2018 at approximately 1:00 P.M. I was traveling west on Pine hill Rd
approximately 500 feet from Washington St. in Port Richey Florida. I came to a stop behind a
Pasco county school bus bearing Florida tag 232803 due to a construction working holding a stop
sign in a construction zone.
At this time I had a clear unobstructed view of the construction worker holding the stop sign and the
school bus. I observed the construction worker who was later identified as Andrew Neuvelt from
a Florida driver license, turn the sign around and wave the bus to proceed. The back of the sign
read Slow . As I was approaching Andrew his waved his arms to get my attention. I rolled my
window down and Andrew Stated I think He hit my Stop

Giant toy stores since they do not manufacture their own products, attempt to develop brand
loyalty to the stores themselves. The shopping experience itself is now sold to consumers.
Retailers want customers to think of their stores as a destination, not a mere outlet for the
distribution of products. Their goal is to move attention away from the products sold, which are
available anywhere, even over the Internet, to the place where the products are sold. Diamond
Toys, one of such specialty toy shops in USA emphasizes status, high quality, unique merchandise
and excellent service. Their goal is to attract a wealthy, cosmopolitan clientele seeking unique,
high quality toys sold by solicitous, knowledgeable service workers. Hence, stores in the
Diamond Toys chain are generally located in upscale shopping districts in major cities and are
built to resemble amusement parks making them appeal to tourists as well as to the wealthy.
Hence, the image the store wants to build for itself, the clientele it wishes to serve, play a major
role in deciding store locations. A store which is interested in building an image of value for money
and offers large discounts will probably locate itself in the city outskirts and depend upon the
discount and variety if offers to lure customers to make the trip
Catch 22 Critical Analysis
Catch 22 takes place during the second half of WW2 and follows an Assyrian soldier named
Yossarian, who is stationed with his Air Force squadron on the Italian island of Pianosa. Here he and
his friends face the cruelty of War and the idiocracy of their naive and overly ambitious superior
officers. The squadron is constantly thrown into combat merely with the mission to get cool
photographs rather than to destroy their targets. Through these inane missions their leaders also
continuously raise the number of missions each Airman is required to fly, meaning no one is ever
sent home. Yossarianexists with this sense of angst, as he feels no one realizes what is going on
around them; the war, the cruelty of their officers, etc.
Throughout the war Yossarian disregards the national causes for the war and takes it personally. He
feels as if he was thrust into this without his consent, and oftentimes he tries to find a way out of the
military. He hates being thrust into these absurd circumstances where his friends die. Situations
such as being bombed by his own mess officer and his generals volunteering them for perilous
missions to better their reputation. Yossarian finds out that he can be discharged for being insane,
but only proves his sanity by claiming to be insane, as any sane person would claim insanity to
avoid being in the military. Shortly after Catch 22 is defined as any circular dilemma that you cannot
escape due to conflicting conditions, often resulting in the
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie s The Danger Of A Single Story
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you (Maya Angelou). In a world
where often the majority s voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However,
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge
from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global
populations, Adichie in The Danger of a Single Story, speaks through personal anecdotes enabling
her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in
stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single
perspective of a story. First, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichieportrays the literature of her youth: All my
characters were white and blue eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples, and they talked a lot
about the weather, how lovely it was that the sun had come out (10 12). Through the use of white
and blue eyed Adichie creates a sense of desire. By placing both words beside each other, and
emphasizing the physical descriptions of the characters, Adichie strengthens the racial hierarchy
present in western literature. This strategy causes Adichie to questionher own racial identity, making
her feel less valued than her western counterparts. In addition, the quote illustrates an impressionable
tone in which she openly accepts the non applicable western values. Similar to a child, Adichie
embraces a single perspective
In The Skin Of A Lion Character Analysis
In order for humans to be able to create meaningful relationships with one another, they need to be
able to communicate with each other. If individuals want to create relations with one another, they
need to be able to understand each other. They also need to take the initiative to figure out others,
and be able to communicate and connect with each other. However, the only way that you can
understand others is if you relate with one another, in order to build relations and be comfortable
around each other. In order for you to be able to connect with other people and have relations with
others people, we need to leave our comfort zoneand relate to other people. Whether it be learning a
new language or moving to a new place, just like the individuals in the second sourceand third source
were able to do.
In the story of In the Skin of a Lion, the main character is Patrick who lived amongst other
immigrants and did not recognize their language and culture because he kept to himself. However,
when he took the initiative to learn the Macedonian word for Iguana he was able to communicate
with others at the fruit stall, and in the future he was able to be close to some new people he didn
t even know existed. This source shows how if you take action upon your desires to make
relations you will infact be able to make new friends, just like Patrick was able to make new
relations with the people around him. Patrick was able to leave his comfort zone of keeping to
himself to
God s Grandeur, By Gerard Manly Hopkins
God s Grandeur by Gerard Manly Hopkins
As a Jesuit priest, Gerard Manly Hopkins devoted many years of his life to spiritual study and
instruction. As seen in his poem God s Grandeur , Hopkins translated his intense spirituality into
poems that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world as an expression of God s
divinity. In the poem, Hopkins presents the Victorian fixation on progress and change not as an
improvement, but rather as a regression from a constructive communion with God s glory as found
in the natural world. Despite Hopkins negative view on the impact of man s progression, he remains
confident and appreciative of the protective power of God and the inexhaustibility of nature as further

Here, Hopkins establishes a connection between God s grandeur and light, which he continues in
the second stanza with his description of the sunrise brought forth by the possibility of rebirth as
well as continuity in nature. Although the sun sets in the black west, morning, at the brown brink
eastward, springs (12). The sun, a source of energy so far superior to any source to any man made
source, becomes an expression of God s care for the Earth, offering the possibility of freshness and
growth despite all of man s abuses.
Hopkins outlines some of these abuses in the first stanza, in which a rather bleak picture of man s
interaction with the earth contrasts to the brightness of God s light. During the Victorian Age of
mass production, people gradually drew away from small rural farms into the dismal urban world
of factories and mills. Hopkins laments that such so called progress has drawn man away from the
land. The sun, God s ultimate source of light and life, shines upon soil that Is bare now, abandoned
for the urban life (8). That Hopkins chooses to say now in reference to the barren earth suggests a
dramatic and negative change from the past. While not condemning the contemporary changes,
Hopkins regrets that man s progress has so negatively impacted both the natural world and man
himself.
In defining how man s progress leads him away from the God s grandeur, Hopkins lowers the
