I. Definition of Forest Fires


- A forest fire (also known as a wildfire) is an uncontrolled fire that
spreads rapidly through vegetation such as forests, grasslands, or brush. It
can burn thousands of acres of land and cause serious damage to the
environment, property, and sometimes human life.

+ rapidly= quickly: nhanh chóng
+ vegetation: thảm thực vật
+ property: tài sản

II. Causes of Forest Fires


1. Natural Causes:
● Lightning strikes: Lightning can cause forest fires when it strikes dry
trees or flammable vegetation.
● High temperatures and droughts: Extremely hot and dry weather makes
forests more flammable.
2. Human Causes:
- Campfires are not put out properly – People go camping and leave the
fire burning. (Lửa trại không được dập tắt đúng cách: Mng đi cắm trại và
vẫn để lửa trại cháy)
- Throwing cigarettes on the ground – A burning cigarette can start a fire
in dry grass. (Ném tàn thuốc lá trên mặt đất)
- Burning trash or leaves – Fire can get out of control and spread to the
forest. (Đốt lá cây, rác)
- Using machines or tools that make sparks – Like chainsaws or cars in
dry areas. (Sử dụng máy hoặc công cụ có thể gây bùng lửa)
- Power lines or electrical problems – Broken wires can fall and start a
fire. (Do dòng chảy năng lượng hoặc những vấn đề về điện)

III. Consequences of forest fires

● Damage to the Environment


- Trees and plants are burned (Cây cối, thực vật bị đốt cháy):
Forests take many years to grow, and fires destroy them quickly.
- Animals lose their homes (Động vật mất nơi cư trú): Many
animals die or have to leave because their habitat is gone.
- Air pollution (Ô nhiễm không khí): Smoke from fires makes the
air dirty and hard to breathe.
● Harm to People
- Health problems (Những vấn đề về sức khỏe): Smoke can cause
breathing issues, especially for children and older people.
- Loss of property (Mất tài sản): Houses and buildings near forests
can burn down.
- Danger to people’s lives (Đe dọa mạng sống con người):
Fighting fires is risky and can lead to injury or death.
