Theme Of Ghost In The Shell
Ghost in the Shell (Oshii Mamoru, 1995) is a substantial film that depicts a future where man and
machine are intertwined. Set in the year 2029 A.D., East Asia has become a corporate society that
has flourished in the advancement of technology. Presented with a future of advanced cybernetics
and sophisticated networks, the mainstream for many in this progressive culture is body
modification and augmentation. The meld between man and machine has resulted in the creation of
what is known throughout the film as a cyborg. Since everything is technology based, including the
majority of the population, the need for cyber security has increased. Organizations, such as the
Department of the Interior, were created by the government in order to be better prepared for
cybercrime or terrorist attacks. The film focuses around the leader of the Section 9 Shell Squad ,
Kusanagi Motoko, and her pursuit of a hacker known as the Puppet Master . The hacker is later
unmasked to be a computer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While pursuing the Puppet Master , Kusanagi and her team encounter a number of assailants, in
which they soon discover were merely ghost hacked victims. The victims of the Puppet Master
were manipulated with fake memories in order to fulfill the hacker s agenda. The term ghost is
used in the film as an equivalent to a person s thoughts and memories. It is believed that memories
are unique to the beholder and in a way gives a person a sense of self and individuality. But does
having faux memories really obstruct one s real identity? Oshii constantly challenges this notion of a
loss of individuality and identity throughout the film by reestablishing Kusanagi s need for a sense
of self. She questions her own identity while continuing to track down the ghost hacker. In light of
the situation, with a large number of individual s ghosts being hacked, Kusanagi grows more
concerned with her own

Formal Analysis of a Piece of Art: Pay Up or Shut Up
Shepard Fairey s piece titled Pay Up or Shut Up is a representation of the role that money or your
role in society dictate the power of your speech. This piece of art by Fairey was released in May
of 2015. It is a screen print on cream speckletone paper. Pay Up or Shut Up is centered around the
colors red, white, and blue. This is due to the topic of the screen print dealing with issues in the
United States. In the picture there is a man staring to the top right of the page and there is a hand
covering the man s mouth coming from the bottom left of the page. The man is wearing a blackish
blue suit jacket. The trim of the lapel is a cream color. The man s hair is made up mostly of red, with
small hints of brown and white. The mans skin is a white cream color. On the right side of the
man s face there is a shadow composed of a red and a grey. The hand covering the man s mouth is
composed mostly of a white cream color and some hints of red and grey where the shadows are
seen on the hand. The arm stretching from the bottom left of the picture has a sleeve with a
simple design of the American flag. The color in this picture is very vibrant. Without the red,
shades of yellow, and the off colored white this would almost be a black and white picture. From
all of the color used in the work of art the main focus is the point where the hand is
Dracula Influences
Dracula: Influences of the Present and Past
Vampires are not completely fictional. In the late 1890s Bram Stoker takes historical information
and old European folktales to create famous Gothic novels like Dracula; Before writing Dracula,
he studied for eight years stories of vampires. The title of Stoker s story has historical significance
to Vlad Dracul III, a Wallachian ruler who impaled his victims on stakes. Bram Stoker also was
influenced by his lifetime, before the publication of Dracula, Gothic and Epistolary novels were on
the rise consequently why Dracula is classified as both. Stoker s novels show his ideals as well as
views on social and political reforms during the Victorian era. Moreover, the threats of female
sexuality plagued Victorian anxieties, morals were being questioned. At this time, Victorians were
believed to be morally progressing and can now be seen as a more prudish time. During this time
book publishers often altered words that might be inappropriate. Bram Stoker s Dracula establishes
the seminal view of vampires that has been modified throughout the ages to the now idealized
vampire.
In Bram Stoker s novel, he creates the first ideal look of a vampire. At the beginning of the story,
Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to go the Count s castle on business. Jonathan along the
way has strange encounters with townspeople about where he is traveling. Stoker early in the book
draws from our reference of the now traditional vampire and states in
Civil Commitment Report
Civil commitment procedures and policies vary across the nation, Virginia holding one of the
shortest procedures in emergency response to mental health crisis. Virginia s mental health reform
needs comes to the forefront of the political agenda after tragedy ensues itself. Although, prior
reports and evaluations identify service gap issues and problems with the emergency services
system. The preferred political system is the problem stream that opens a policy window to allow
support much needed reform. In 2005, Virginia established a commission to study problems and
service gaps identified throughout the 1990 s that included civil commitment procedures. Virginia
strict civil commitment practice and interpretation made involuntary admission... Show more content

Ecological Niche Of The Kakapo
Habitat:
The kakapos are quite solitary. They normally live alone and have large ranges, travelling several
kilometres in one night. The males range from 15 30 hectares, females 35 50 hectares (to find
food for young). Because they are solitary birds by nature, when ranges overlap they make a noise
called skraarking to keep a distance from each other. Kakapo used to be found through most of New
Zealand, from lowland forests to mountain grasslands. They are now extinct on the mainland, the
last survivors having been moved onto three offshore islands Codfish, Maud and Little Barrier. The
islands they live on today are all reserves with no predators except kiore (Polynesian rats).

The graph adjacent demonstrates the drastic decline and the comparatively gradual controlled
increase of this species.
Kakapo formerly prospered throughout most of the North, South and Stewart Islands, New
Zealand. Although it vanished from most of its initial range throughout human colonisation, the
species persisted copious in Fiordland and some other higher rainfall and more meagrely
populated portions of South Island until the early twentieth century. By 1976, however, the
recognized population had been condensed to 18 birds, all males, all in Fiordland. In 1977, a
rapidly diminishing population of 150 birds was exposed on Stewart Island. Between 1980 and
1992, 61 remaining Stewart Island birds were relocated to offshore islands, and are currently
situated on Codfish and Anchor Islands. The last acknowledged North Island record was in
1927. In 2009, a male which was one of four transferred from Stewart to Codfish in 1987 was
rediscovered after having been missing for 21 years. As of November 2005, birds are still present
on four islands: Codfish, Chalky, Anchor and Maud. In 1999, 26 females and 36 males endured,
containing 50 individuals of breeding age, six sub adults and six infants. The population alleviated,
and has started to gradually rise following the depiction of concentrated management. By 2005, the
kakapo population stood at 86, of which 52 were breeding adults and 34 were infants; a prolific
In Praise of Folly
In Praise of Folly Erasmus Dichotomy
The Silenus box is a case carved like an ugly Silenus that can be opened to reveal beautiful,
precious objects (Erasmus 43, footnote). This box appears in Erasmus Praise of Folly as a
metaphor for the central claim in the novel, which is that that which appears to be Folly (ugly)
externally, is wise (precious) within. Erasmus reveals this dichotomy on three levels: in the image of
the box itself, in his genuine praise of Folly, and in the structure of the novel as a whole.
Erasmus, using the female voice of Folly, introduces his reader to the image of the Silenus box
early in the text, thereby allowing his reader to carry the image with her for the rest of her time
reading (and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Folly, being folly, goes on from her initial description of the box to give the majority of her list
backwards (although she begins correctly), claiming that if the list goes in one direction, it must, of
course, go in the opposite direction as well (she s a woman you can t expect her to be reasonable
(28)). To do this, she abruptly inserts the word conversely (43), and continues with a long
backward list. Life will turn out to be death; beauty will become ugliness, and so on, she says
(43). In this backwards list, good outsides cloak bad insides. She then uses this inverted list as a
springboard to celebrate wise appearances (although this is the exact opposite of the central message
of the book, which is the celebration of foolish appearances).
She declares that esteemed members of the community are truly members of her (Folly s) clan, and
that all they have of wisdom is its appearance. Kings and great courtiers... find suitable pretexts
within which they can steal from their citizens and live in luxury so that downright injustice at least
has some appearance of justice (107 8). Popes, cardinals and bishops also behave artificially. They
play their roles with theatrical pomp and ceremonies, but as much as they abide by the superficial
demands of their positions,
Analysis Of The Film Super Size Me
The documentary is a personal view of the fast food industry. The director Morgan Spurlock
wanted to prove that the fast food industry has an impact on the growing epidemic in America and
its called obesity. Morgan Spurlock had to show the effects of eating fast food for a month and
how it would affect any human being. Morgan Spurlock stated I m a willing to participant in that
flawed way of life, eating fast foodas often as I can and exercising as little as possible. The
experiment idea comes from two girls who were suing McDonald s for their obesity; however, the
judge ruled that there is no proof that their obesity and poor health is a result of eating from fast food
place such as McDonalds. Spurlock uses several techniques to grab... Show more content on

The film doesn t put all the blame of obesity on fast food companies. People do have free choice,
but the point he makes is that these companies go out of their way to make the food pretty much
addictive through the use of sugar, fat, and caffeine and that they go out of their way to hide how
unhealthy this stuff really is. On the other hand, there are some things in Spurlock s documentary
which were a little outrageous. The blame should not only be placed on fast food. I do strongly
believe that we all have the will power to walk in McDonalds and order a salad or simply not go
in and make McDonalds to make it a much wealthier company. The director used great methods
on how to get the message across and great graphics to keep the audience entertained. I do believe
is Spurlock would have eaten other food that contained over 2500 calories a day, he would have
still faced health problems. Finally, he shows us pictures of him after he went back to his good
eating habits which imply how happy he is to be back in shape. I think he is trying to send out the
message that it s not too late for the viewer to change their eating style and live a healthy
Social, Political And Economic Equality Of The Sexes
Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. ,
those are the words used to define a feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The quote was later
sampled by popular music artist Beyonce in her song, Flawless , from her self titled album. This
quote and a performance of the song later caused an unforeseen backlash by some feminist.
Pandemonium ensued as a result of Beyonce s actions. Feminist debated about who can and
cannot call themselves a feminist. Feminist argued Beyonce, her music, and dancing supported a
misogynistic culture. They falter by proclaiming one brand of feminism is better than the other.
The overall message you can t be too risqué, or you cannot be feminist. Recently, there has been a
tsunami of scrutiny thrown at Columbia recording artist, Beyonce, who performed at the
nationally televised Video Music Awards, commonly referred to as the VMAs. While
performing, Beyonce stood on stage with her fist clinched and the word Feminist behind her. She
was quickly praised, but at the same time scolded. Beyonce was scolded for having sexually
suggestive lyrics, provocative dancing, and her lifestyle. Lyrics like Bow down bitches! , that
were seen as derogatory to women. She was seen as sexually provocative while dancing on poles,
and twerking on stage. Beyonce was also scolded for being rich, and selling a consumerist lifestyle
other could not afford. I beg to argue each of these statements. Although not a huge
The Importance of Corporate Governance Essay
The need for clarification on the board requirements for a majority of independent directors as it
relates to corporate governance is of great importance and would be discussed in this write up.
According to Shleifer and Vishny (1997), corporate governance is the system, by which
corporations are directed and controlled. On the other hand, an independent director is a person
that has at no time, worked for the company nor owned shares in the company. This director also
would not be related to any of the key employees nor would have worked for any major supplier,
customer or service providers, such as consultants, accountants, lawyers, etc. In principle, as

The appointment of independent directors became very necessary, as shareholders looked for a
way by which management became more responsible and accountable, and as such; the need for
independent directors, who would not only checkmate the excesses of the board of directors, but
also have the interest of the company and the shareholders at heart. Joshua Kennon (2007), stated
that The board of directors is the highest governing authority within the management structure at
any publicly traded company and is usually made up of the directors who are elected for a
specific number of years by the shareholders . According to Wikipedia, A board of directors is a
body of elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of a company or
organization . It is the board s responsibility to consider and authorize a suitable remuneration
package for the company s chief executive officer (CEO), make recommendations with respect to the
attractiveness of dividends and dividends pay out, approve stock splits, form the audit committees,

All Summer in a Day
Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not be
experiencing, but for a little girl living who s living on Venus, this is exactly what is happening. The
short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury , takes place on the planet Venus where everyday
is like the next, full of rain. To the residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here
five years ago. This is the case for Margot who has to deal with the torture of remembering life on
Earth. Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring and the
sky turns blue. Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to Venus. Unfortunately,
the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the opportunity to see the sun that she loves
and misses so much. A theme throughout the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of
Margot because she is different, this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in
the shower, and when the children lock her in the closet.
One of the reasons that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot is because of her different
experiences. The author writes the biggest crime of all was that she has come here only five years
ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun and the away the sun was and the sky (Bradbury
1974). He uses this quote to show the reader the relationship between Margot and her classmates. It
