7. Working
The HT071 single axis programming positioner can position a motor driven axis in manual, semiautomatic,
automatic and automatic continuous mode.
The device has a memory where it is possible to store up to 99 programs, from number 1 up to number 99. Each
program can include up to 20 positions. It is possible to link 65000 repetitions to each position.
D EFINITIONS:
- PROGRAM CYCLE: each position with its own repetitions compose a program cycle
- REPETITION: the number of times that the contact connected to the CYCLE INCREASE input, has to open
and close to allow to go on to the next cycle.
HT071 Instruction manual Rev.00 dd 04/2007 Pag. 5
Semiautomatic mode works as a single program cycle, with the difference that it is directly carried out without
storing it.
8. Parameters programming
PARAMETERS PROGRAMMING key
? Parameters define the device working and consequently the machine setting. So, it is suggested to refer to
the machine MANUFACTURER, before changing parameters values.
ENTERING PARAMETERS PROCEDURE:
- Press PARAMETERS PROGRAMMING key for about 5 seconds, till it flashes. The number of parameter is
visualized on the cycles display, the quotas are visualized on the positions display.
- Press 1 key to correct the quota where it is positioned the axis
- Press 2 key to write or change the parameters. Digit the new parameter value and press ENTER key to
confirm
- Press ENTER key to scroll the parameters. The number visualized on the cycle display, is the number of the
parameter it is being read or changed

PARAMETERS LIST:
1 AXIS POSITION: limit values of the axis: from - 999999 to 999999.
2 RECOVER BACKLASH: - if = 0: it doesn’t work
- if > 0: it is recovered in positive or increasing position
- if < 0: it is recovered in negative or decreasing position
3 CHANGING OF SPEED : - if = 0: the axis moves only slowly
In order to get a correct positioning in a two speeds system, the changing speed
value has to be superior to the system inertia value at high speed.
4 INERTIA IN NEGATIVE DIRECTION OR DECREASING
5 INERTIA IN POSITIVE DIRECTION OR INCREASING
6 TOLERANCE: value within the positioning is accepted
7 SHIFT: value to execute
8 TIME BEFORE SHIFT : its time unit is the tenth of second. It expresses the time passing from the moment when
the shift is controlled and the moment when it takes place
9 MINIMUM LIMIT SWITCH: limit value - 999999
10 MAXIMUM LIMIT SWITCH: limit value 999999
11 ENCODER MULTIPLYING FACTOR: x1 x2 x4
12 ENCODER DECIMAL MULTIPLICATION:
- if = 0: it excludes the parameter
- From 0,000001 to 1,999999 (the 6 digits of the display represents the decimal part of this
number). The negative sign means 0 before the decimal part, instead the absence of the negative
sign means 1. (Digiting -234500 on the display means that at each encoder pulse, the position will
be increased or decreased of 0.234500. Digiting 234500 on the display means that at each
encoder pulse, the position will be increased or decreased of 1.234500).
HT071 Instruction manual Rev.00 dd 04/2007 Pag. 6
13 PRESET : When this input is activated, the value of the axis position is immediately set to this value. Limit
value of the axis: from - 999999 to 999999.
14 D ECIMAL POINT position: - if = 0: reading without decimal point
- if = 1: reading with one decimal point
- if = 2: reading with two decimal points
- if = 3: reading with three decimal points
15 Value of the TIME OF THE CHECKING OF THE REACHED POSITION : its time unit is the tenth of second. It expresses
or the time passing from the ending of a positioning to the checking of the reached position tolerance, or
during a changing direction of a moving.
16 Switching MILLIMETRE / INCH: - if = 0: millimetres visualization
- if = 1: inch visualization
17 OK POSIZION: - if = 0: steady OK POSITION output
- if = 1: pulsed (0,5 seconds) OK POSITION output
18 Axis RESET: - if = 0: at the beginning the axis is not reset
- if = 1: at the beginning the axis is reset (reset means the loading of the preset
value saved in the parameter 13).
9. MANUAL mode working
At the switching on, the device is ready for MANUAL mode.
In this mode, minimum and maximum limit switches are activated. Only the four keys concerning with the axis
position are available.
SLOW INCREASING key

TOTAL WORKED HOURS counter key. It allows to pass from the visualization of the position to
the visualization of the TOTAL WORKED HOURS counter and vice versa. If the EXTERNAL
STOP contact is normally open, the function will not work. The worked time is visualized as
follows: hours.minutes (HHHH.MM).
It allows to pass from the visualization of the position to the visualization of the TOTAL
COUNTER and vice versa.
HT071 Instruction manual Rev.00 dd 04/2007 Pag. 7
10. SEMIAUTOMATIC mode working
SEMIAUTOMATIC and ENTER function key
- When ENTER/SEMIAUTOMATIC function key is pressed, its led will switch on and 000000 will flash on the
position display
- Digit the value of the position to reach, paying attention to digit only values included within the limit switch
values. Press START to execute the positioning. If ENTER instead of START is pressed, display will visualize
00001 that indicates the number of repetitions to programm. Confirm or digit the number of desired repetitions
(max 65000) and press START to execute the positioning. Now the START key led is switching on, to show
there is a positioning in execution.
If, for any reasons, the positioning doesn’t take place within the limit values of the programmed tolerance, the
positioner will try to reach the position for maximum three times. If the axis doesn’t position, the OK POSITION
relay will stay open and the START key led will start flashing in order to signal the anomaly. Press STOP to
exit this mode and check if the uncorrect positioning is due to the uncorrect parameters entering or to
mechanical problems
- When the positioning is finished, it will be necessary to press the SEMIAUTOMATIC and ENTER function key
again to execute a further positioning
- Press STOP key to stop the positioning or the counting of the repetitions.
The device allows to execute the positioning even if the required quota is included in the limits calculated as the
the present position value plus or minus the system inertia value. In this case, the positioner places or at a
distance so far as three times the system inertia value from the current position, in the most suitable direction for
the positioning; or it recovers the backlash. From the reached position, it allows the axis to move to the required
quota.
Defining the mechanical limits of the system, consider that HT071 doesn't accept positioning values excluded
from the limits of the programmed parameters, it is able to go out of these limits in order to reach the correct
quota.
11. Program editing

15. SHIFT function
SHIFT GATING and +/- key
To activate this function, press the SHIFT GATING and +/- key, its led will switch on.
When the SHIFT input closes, this function will allow to increase the axis position as the value programmed in
the parameter 7. The increasing takes plac e after the passing of a time having the value programmed in the
parameter 8 (TIME BEFORE SHIFT). During this movement the OK POSITION is closed. When the
INCREASING CYCLE input opens (because the INCREASING CYCLE has the priority on the SHIFT), the
device will move to the previous position again. So, even if the SHIFT is not finished, the getting back to the
position will be able to take place.
? When 1 value is entered in parameter 18, SHIFT function doesn’t work.
16. OK POSITION
O.K. POSITION is a contact opening during movements and closing when the positioning is finished. This
contact can stay open in the herewith events:
- In SEMIAUTOMATIC working mode: if the positioning wasn’t correct and if the repetitions counter
doesn’t reach the value previously entered
- In AUTOMATIC mode: if the positioning wasn’t correct and at the end of each program
- During PROGRAMMING
- Entering the menu of parameters
17. INCREASING CYCLE
Opening and closing this input, one of the programmed repetitions is counted. The counter increases of one unit
at each opening and closing. In AUTOMATIC mode, after the counting of the programmed repetitions, the device
executes the next cycle.
18. EXTERNAL START and STOP
START e STOP inputs, on the backside terminal, have the same functions of their own keys placed on the
frontal side. External STOP must be absolutely connected to a normally closed contact.
19. GATING
This contact closes at the beginning of each movement and opens after about 0.5 seconds the finishing of the
movement.
20. PRESET
If the OUTPUT 0 of the ENCODER is not connected to the INPUT 0, every time the PRESET input closes, the
axis position value will be changed to the value saved in this parameter.
HT071 Instruction manual Rev.00 dd 04/2007 Pag. 10
21. INPUT 0 ENCODER
If the contact on the PRESET input is closed, every time the INPUT 0 ENCODER is activated from 0 OUTPUT of
