Bar Dice

Bar Dice is a game where players aim to achieve the highest-scoring hand in the fewest rolls using five dice. Players must roll at least one '1' to start scoring, and can keep dice to improve their hand over a maximum of three shakes. Scoring is based on the quantity and value of matching dice, with variations in rules regarding wild dice and keeping numbers that should be clarified before play.

The Adventure Squad: How Do You Play Bar Dice - Quick And Easy Dice
Games

Objective
The goal is to get the highest-scoring hand in the fewest number of rolls
(or "shakes").

Gameplay
1. Turns: Each player gets a maximum of three shakes per turn using
five dice.
2. The First Roll: To begin scoring, you must roll at least one '1'. You
cannot keep any other dice until a '1' is rolled. '1's are considered wild
(of any value).
3. Keeping Dice: Once you have a '1', you can set it aside along with
any other numbers you wish to keep. You then re-roll the remaining
dice to improve your hand.
4. Setting the Score: You can choose to stop after any of your shakes.
Your final hand and the number of shakes it took to get it (e.g., "five 5s
in two shakes") becomes the score to beat. Other players then have
that same number of shakes or fewer to try and get a better hand.

Scoring and Hand Rankings

Hands are ranked first by the quantity of matching dice (five-of-a-kind
is best, then four-of-a-kind, etc.).
If two players have the same quantity (e.g., both have four-of-a-kind),
the hand with the higher-value dice wins (four 6s beats four 5s).
If players achieve the same hand, the player who did it in fewer
shakes wins.
Rule Variations
It is important to clarify which of these rules you are playing with
beforehand:

The "Swapping" Rule (Wisconsin style): If use your wild dice to

keep a set (e.g., three 3s) and on a subsequent roll you get a higher
pair (e.g., two 5s), you are allowed to swap out your wild die to a 5,
turning your hand into three 5s.
The "Locked In" Rule: In other locations, once you keep a specific
number for the wild die, you are locked into that number for the rest of
your turn and cannot switch, even if you roll a better combination later.
