Country : French Republic

Committee: UN Women (UNW)

Agenda: Abortion laws across the globe
Delegate: Omar Xalilov

1. Introduction
We in France have long since realized that a woman should have a right to her health.
Simone Vail was a woman who fought for abortion rights and in her honor a law was passed
to legalize abortion in 1975. This law allowed women to have abortions up to 10 weeks.
Then in 2001 the law was expanded to allow abortions up to 12 weeks. And in 2022 we
further expanded the law and accepted abortion with the pill up to 9 weeks.

For the French, abortion is not a privilege, it is a right that every woman should have based
on her own circumstances, without judgment or restrictions. But we also realize that for
millions of women around the world, this is not a reality.

2. The worldwide truth

Although we are very proud of the progress France has made, we cannot deny the fact that
millions of women still face freedom issues. Many countries still prohibit abortion by law,
which does not stop women from choosing to carry a pregnancy to term or to undergo
procedures that may harm their health. This in itself affects their emotional and physical
health.

Women who have no money or are from rural areas. They are often denied access to
abortion. This also puts their lives at risk. This is not just a financial or medical issue - it is a
human rights issue that all countries must address.

3. France calls for action.

France believes that abortion is the right of every woman, regardless of her country,
regardless of her capital. As a global community, we must unite and solve problems so that
every woman can achieve her rights. To do this, we must:

1. Crime Reduction:

By reducing crime for abortion we can ensure that women are not penalized for their
freedom of choice as it relates to their health. Abortion should be treated as a health issue,
not a criminal offense.
2. Precautions and available services
When abortion is illegal a woman acts in illegal ways and it harms their health . It is time to
recognize the fact that abortion is not just a health issue but a women's right.

3. Provide education

When people are informed about health, sexual issues, for all people especially the younger
generation. Then they can make more serious decisions. And this can help to further
address the issue of abortion bans in countries.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the delegation of France reaffirmed the provision that every woman should
have the right to make free choices about her body, health and future. No woman should risk
her life because of abortion laws. Together, working with all countries, we can make a
society where women can live the life they want despite their country and capital. In a world
of equal freedom of choice about their bodies, their health and their futures.

Thank you.
