Seuss is a negative role model. (According to dictionary.com) an artist is sensitive and creative but
imaginable. Dr. has all of those talents, but some may not think so. Even though he drew sad
racist ads he still has many fans who love him. He called black people use less savages that live in
the tropics wearing hideous grass skirts. He may have called black people rude things, but he has
hundreds of books published that make everyone laugh, smile and know that they can do
anything that they want to do. His father wanted him to be a college professor, but Theodor
Geisel, told his dad that he didn t want to be a professor and wanted to be Dr. Seuss, and if it
wasn t for Dr. Seuss yesterday would be nothing like today. When Theodor was in college, he had
a major drinking problem, he got kicked out and wasn t able to continue at that school. Even
though he wasn t the best when he was a teen ager he still made effort trying to make his dreams
come true. A lot of people know that if you don t make mistakes you ll get to know where, yes, Dr.
Seuss may have made some mistakes, but he managed to get through all the hate and be a
marvelous successful writer, poet and as everyone calls him a child s
Symptoms And Treatment Of Lyme Disease
Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans by the
bite of infected blacklegged ticks (Ixodes spp.). Early manifestations of infection include fever,
headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. Left untreated, late
manifestations involving the joints, heart, and nervous system can occur. A Healthy People 2010
objective (14 8) is to reduce the annual incidence of Lyme diseaseto 9.7 new cases per 100,000
population in 10 reference states where the disease is endemic (Connecticut, Delaware,
Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and
Wisconsin). This report summarizes surveillance data for 64,382 Lyme disease cases reported to
CDC during 2003 2005, of which 59,770 cases (93%) were reported from the 10 reference states.
The average annual rate in these 10 reference states for the 3 year period (29.2 cases per 100,000
population) was approximately three times the Healthy People 2010 target. Persons living in
Lyme disease endemic areas can take steps to reduce their risk for infection, including daily self
examination for ticks, selective use of acaricides and tick repellents, use of landscaping practices
that reduce tick populations in yards and play areas, and avoidance of tick infested areas. (U.S.
National Library of Medicine, 2007.)
In the early 1970s, a number of rheumatoid arthritis cases occurred in Lyme, Connecticut.

The Day Of The Free Throw Line
I begin to worry as I stand at the free throw line. Everyone is watching. My palms begin to sweat
profusely. What will people think if I miss? I do not want to let down my teammates. The game is
on the line. I have to make the shot. Breath. I take a breath, then slowly exhale. Be confident. I
hold the ball between my shaking hands, and tell myself I can do it. Upon releasing the ball, the
fans fall silent. Looking up at the basket, I see the basketball soaring closer to the hoop. Please go
in. Everything seems to be in slow motion and then finally I hear, Swoosh! I did it. Goal setting
can be a hard task at times. Every year New Year resolutions are created, but unfortunately 50% of
resolutions fail before the end of January. Generating a resolution may seem easy and
straightforward, but producing an achievable goal is what many people struggle with. Many
women tell themselves that they will work out more in order to have a toned and skinny body
just like a Victoria s Secret model. The problem is, this is not a realistic and achievable.
Therefore, these woman become unsuccessful in a short amount of time, leaving them with a
sense of disappointment at the end of the year. Instead of creating an unlikely goal and failing, I
have decided that in the year of 2016 I will focus on one simple word that will help with my
motivation and self esteem at the end of the year when the goal is reached. In the upcoming year
my one word resolution will be confidence. I plan to use this
The Bamana Boli in Mali
The Boli, or altar, figure from the Bamana peoples of Mali is a unique piece of art not based on
what an individual knows about the figure, but rather what it doesn t. The Boli has a secretive
quality that harness energy from the community and peoples reactions to the Boli can fluctuate
based on their interpretations on the object. The Boli is made of materials ranging from human
bodily fluid to sticks and string. The figure is generally made to resemble an animal, typically a
hippopotamus or cow, but over time with sacrificial material covering the figure it can become
somewhat unclear. The Bamana peoples have an obscure relationship with the Boli for many reasons
that could sprout from the materials it is made from, its uses in the... Show more content on

This only adds to the uniqueness of the Boli. Much of the research on Boli figures ends up being
found specifically from the Kono society of the Bamana peoples of Mali. The Kono society is known
as a power association or a secret society each society has a unique way of performing rituals and
creating Boli figures, but all have the basic structure pertaining to the Boli. The main use of the
Boli is to contain nyama, or a mysterious ancient force, which is a very secretive and unclear force
that the Kono believed to affect the society based on how it was dealt. The Kono society has
since decreased in numbers, but the mystery of the Boli and nyama is still feared and/or practiced
by some Bamana peoples that continue the tradition. The usage of the Boli is that of a sacrificial
purpose. The Bamana peoples in secret Kono initiation associations use the Boli, where there is
an abundance of nyama present. The priests of the society can activate and use the nyama and
with the initiates combine to protect the community by destroying malevolent forces. People in
each society have there own view on the usage of the Boli. Some people are for the use and think
that actively using Boli figures to activate nyama to protect the society from evil forces and feel
very protected by this ritual. Other people fear the power of the Boli and are to powerful while
being too mysterious and secretive. The power the Boli have

So the olympics officials decided to make a special race called legend vs. rookie. Usain and I got to
practice and train for 2 and half weeks. Usain asked the official if it can be best out of 5. They
said that s fine but you guys have to run two races a day. On the first race I lost by 2 seconds
because of my bad start. The next race I won. I finished in 9.57 seconds and Usain finished in 9.59
seconds. On the third race I won and I finished in 9.53 seconds making a new world record and
Usain finished in 9.54 making a new career record for him. On the fourth race I came short by 4
seconds and because of that Usain took advantage and beat my world record by finishing 9.52

Pirates Go To School Analysis

Pirates Among Children Why would a pirate need to go to school? How would a pirate behave in
a school? In the books Uncle Pirate, by Douglas Rees, and Pirates Go To School, by Corinne
Demas, the reader is shown how different writers view these questions. Have these two writers
expressed similar or opposing views of one another? How does the age gap affect the writing?
Why is the theme so important? First off, what is a pirate? The Merriam Webster Dictionary
defines it as Someone who attacks and steals from a ship at sea. Why would an author use someone
like this for a children s book? That could be attributed to many things, specifically modern culture
and the way it uses pirates. Movies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On all twentyeight of its pages you can find vibrant and playful colors expressing the lighthearted
mood of the book. this plays into the theme of the book which seems to be that, school can be a fun
place for even the most rowdy of children. The theme of school being a fun and amazing learning
experience is a shared theme between the two stories.
In the longer of the two stories, Uncle Pirate, the structure is very clearly set up for a more
advanced reader, specifically ten through twelve year olds. The structure of this book is set up like
a normal chapter book. The book has full paragraphs broken up by black and white illustrations
done by Tony Auth. The illustrations, though black and white, allow this book to be visualized
better by youth who haven t quite figured out how to visualize a story in there head. it is not an
ideal book for age groups higher than twelve at most.
The book shares similar qualities of humor and a lighthearted mood with the latter book. A big
difference would be the books ability to cover bigger real world issues in elementary school, as
mentioned by BCCB in a review on Douglas Rees s website. The excerpt from their review
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Essay
Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein sometime in the 1810s. She was born in London in 1797
(Biography). Her mother was an author of prime literary stock who was trying to encourage women
to pursue their ideas and strive to earn the status as equals. The Scientific and Industrial Revolutions
that were taking place around Mary Shelley certainly influenced her while she was writing the book.
The creation of machines and experiments at the time made people wonder what the limit of human
technology was. During the Industrial Revolutionmachines and technology were being introduced to
people that made them worry about the lessening of the impact that humans are making (Industrial).
There were protestors at the time that thought these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was trying to instill the message that humanity cannot be replaced. In 1811 there was a revolt
by the workers who did not like the way machinery was being implemented into their work
(Industrial). They felt that due to the machines they could not use their skills and that the jobs
became degrading. These people thought that they had proven their worth already and did not
need these machines to assist them in their jobs, especially since they were now being paid less. A
group of these revolts, the Luddite revolts of 1811 1813, took place only a few short years before
Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. Her husband Percy, was an anti establishment activist. Neither of
them liked the way all jobs were being turned into factory jobs. In the book Victor makes a female
companion for the monster but destroys it before it becomes alive. He does this so the monster does
not become too human (Burkett). Marriage was created as a human sacrament. One that should not
be offered to something that God did not make. This would give the monster too much free will. He
chose to have a mate and if it was given to him there would be no difference between him and
humans. He had already achieved the intellect by reading books but he could not be given the
opportunity to fully experience human emotions. The thought of the horrible things the monster
could achieve together scared Victor enough for him to destroy
Analysis Of Annie John, Annie, And Her Mother
Throughout history, society has convinced women and men they have to look and act a certain way
depending on their gender. Kincaid s Annie John illustrates how expectations of men and women
differ not only in Antigua, but in many places of the world in the 1950 s. From the beginning,
Kincaid portrays women as feminine and males as masculine. The novel shows women as handlers
of the domestic roles while men support their families financial needs. Furthermore, women and
men have to live up to different standards regarding how they act outside of their caretaking roles.
Kincaid also shows those who do not conform to society s genderroles as being viewed negatively.

Another factor that is essential when analyzing Mr. John s masculinity, is his lack of expressing his
emotions. Alexander s lack of emotion becomes evident when Annie explains the conversation
between her father and a night watchman she states it was not personal; they didn t talk about their
wives... children, or their parents, or... their likes and dislikes (144). Also, at the end of the book,
Annie expresses that her father wanted to say something... something that he never said to me
before, but then he just turned and walked away (147). Kincaid s illustration of Alexander as
unemotional adds to his masculine presence.
In contrast to her husband, Mrs. John is emotional and uncoincidentally, also a woman. Where
Alexander is the definition of masculine, his wife is the definition of feminine. Throughout the
novel, Mrs. John is the caretaker of the household affairs. As the woman it was her duty to cook,
clean, and prepare her husband s baths (Kincaid 13). Mrs. Annie John is also feminine due to her
beauty, Annie describes her as having a beautiful long neck... long hair... a beautiful mouth... [and]
big white teeth (19). Kincaid s illustration of Mrs. John is important because femininity is
associated with beauty. Besides her role as a wife, and her outer appearance, the way she raises
Annie also illustrates Mrs. John s femininity. Annie s mother tries to ensure that her daughter is the
definition of what a lady should be. Mrs. John
How Is Genesis 1-11 Related To Sociology
1. Genesis 1 3
On the sixth day of creation, God created Adam and gave him total dominion over the Garden of
Eden. After a period of time, God realized that it was not good for Adam to remain alone in the
Garden, and therefore created Eve from Adam s ribs. God allowed Adam and Eve to dwell in the
Garden of Eden but commanded that they did not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good
and Evil. However, a serpent later persuades Eve to pick an apple from the Tree, who then offers it
to Adam. God becomes very angry and casts them out from the Garden of Eden. The classical
Disney movie, Snow White, alludes to Adam and Eve. In the movie, an innocent and pure girl
named Snow White is offered a poisonous apple by a wicked witch. The witch claims that the apple
was magical and had the power to grant Snow White a wish. Snow White becomes convinced and
takes a bite from the apple, causing her to fall into a deep slumber. Both the serpent and witch used
the art of temptation, sin, and greed to lure their foe into committing wrong things.

Cain, the older sibling, is a farmer, while Abel is a shepherd. As offerings, Abel offers his most
prized possession, the calf, to God while Cain offers some leftover wheat that he had grown that
year. When God accepts Abel s offering and declines Cain s, Cain becomes filled with anger and
kills Abel. John Steinbeck s East of Eden, alludes to the story of Cain and Abel. In the book,
Adam Trask has two children named Cal and Aron, whose names are very similar to Cain and
Abel . Adam clearly favors Aron over Cal just as God favored Abel over Cain. When Adam
refuses to accept Cal s gift of $15,000, Cal become infuriated and kills Aron by making him join the
army. In both stories, a murder occurred due to jealous
A Girl Fell Off The Fourteenth Floor !
A girl fell off the fourteenth floor! was the response I got when I inquired about the multiple
ambulances outside my dorm at the beginning of sophomore year. The truth of what happened
was much more unsettling. Instead of an accident, the girl, Jenny, had actually jumped from her
dorm window, leaving behind a note saying ending her life was the only way she saw to stopping
her pain. I had known Jenny briefly when she was my Orientation Leader. By all accounts she was
a cheerful girl who lights up any room she enters. Her friends and family all expressed shock and
disbelief there was no warning, no signs at all she was struggling or suffering. In midst of an
outpouring of empathy from the studentbody, many students admitted that they also had suicidal
thoughts, but likewise would never ask for help. Growing up as an Asian American, I was all too
familiar with the stigma associated with mental illness. In high school, I watched my best friend
resorting to self harming when the pressure of college application became too much to handle.
When she tried to tell her first generation immigrant parents about her depression, they merely told
her depression is not real. Their biggest concern about her cutting was that no one should find out.
Even educated parents like mine do not view depression as a real illness the same way they view
diabetes or cancer. Having watched many friends struggle with mental illness, I have always wanted
to make counseling more accessible to all.
