The Problem Of Drugs And Drugs
Jared Lopez

American Literature 3

I m Not Addicted, Says Every Addict Drugs are substances that can alter a person s physical or
mental state. Drugs have the ability to speed up or slow down a person s central nervous system,
cause hallucinations, and most importantly, relieve stress. There are prescription drugs that are used
by people with medical conditions, but there are also others who abuse illegal drugs or prescription
drugs despite the health problems that come with it. Addicts constantly deny their addiction and
claim that they can stop whenever they choose, and others will even tell themselves that it is
necessary to take the drugs for their own make believe medical conditions. However, drugs and

Based on this information gathered, it is easily identifiable that drugs are exposed to everyone
including young Americans and not only adults. Drugs are introduced to people of all ages for
several reasons, with media being the major source. Although the advertisement of tobacco in
American television and radio is now banned, there are still countless amount of advertisements
for alcohol and pain relieving drugs today. Even if illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine are
not advertised, many television shows and movies have multiple scenes that show the characters
abusing drugs and enjoying its effects. People are more susceptible to taking drugs because of
the constant exposure to media portraying that drugs and alcohol are enjoyable and will relieve
stress from the problems that they might have. In the book A Streetcar Named Desire, alcohol
was consumed as a way to forget about reality and escape. Blanche DuBois, a main character of
this novel, constantly drank alcohol because she believed that it temporarily solved her problems
whenever she felt stressed or depressed. Blanche drank frequently even though during that time, the
1940s, it was looked down upon for women to drink alcohol habitually. Now don t get worried,
your sister hasn t turned into a drunkard, she s just all shaken up and hot and tired (Williams 19).
This scene from the book was when Blanche was refusing the alcohol that Stella was offering to

Why The Red Cross??? Imagine being a soldier during the revolutionary war. There is no one to
help you, and there is no doctors to save your life. Since the American Red Cross was founded, the
organization has helped millions of people ranging from war to natural disasters.. The American Red
Cross provides a range of services in the United States by giving emergency assistance, blood,
disaster relief, and education. Also, the Red Cross feeds the volunteers, helps families contact each
other, provides blood to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other
available resources. Their mission is empowering ordinary people to perform extraordinary

Pawan Kumar Thakur Background and objectives: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is an increasingly
recognized complication of liver cirrhosis. It is associated with worsening liver function, ascites and
the occurrence of gastroesophageal variceal bleeding. The aim of this work was to clarify the risk
factors, clinical presentation and complications of portal vein thrombosis in Egyptian patients with
liver cirrhosis and to study the outcome with and without treatment after 6 months follow up
period. Methods: Hospitalized cirrhotic patients (N = 80) were segregated into the PVT and non
PVT groups. PVT was detected by Doppler ultrasonography; each group was divided in two sub
groups (A and B) according to presence or absence of HCC respectively. The 2 groups were
compared as regards risk factors, clinical presentation and complications. The outcome of treatment
with anticoagulation in 6 patients was evaluated. Result: PVT developed as result of combination of
both local and systemic risk factors. HCC, abdominal infection especially spontaneous bacterial
peritonitis and abdominal intervention were the most important local risk factors. Abnormalities of
coagulation system were among systemic risk factors. Most of cases were asymptomatic and
accidentally discovered, others presented
An Open Source Relational Database Management System Essay

Analysis Of The Passing Of Grandison And Quentin...
Humor. Mockery. Relationship Goals. Can you consider these three things in a story about slavery?
Slavery is typically a sensitive and serious topic. In Charles W. Chesnutt s short story, The Passing of
Grandison and Quentin Tarantino s film, Django Unchained , these three components were
combined for entertainment purposes. In this essay, I will implement the comparison that both the
short storyand film shows with the three component of humor, mockery and the relationship goal of
a slave. The Passing of Grandison was humorous in many ways. The humor started the Colonel s
son, Dick Owens, trying to win a girl s heart by doing something kind by freeing a slave by taking
him to Canada. Chesnutt used humor by exposing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this story, Chesnutt changes the reader s initial perception of the characters, which was
humorous. Such as, even though Charity somewhat persuades Dick Owens to proceed in losing his
father s slave, she never believe that he would actually succeed. Dick returns home, and Charity
Lomax hilariously marries him, as she was mildly impressed her with his act. In the movie, Django
Unchained, Taratino humor comes in condemning the importance of slavery, which he makes fun of
events and groups of people that existed during the time of slavery. In the movie, there is a white
German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him
because he needed him to find some men he is looking for. What so hilarious about this was that
Dr. Schultz could have used anybody beside a slave that was on the same plantation with the men
that Django might have known, he was not even certain that Django knew of these men he was
looking for. Also, in the movie, Taratino made the scene with Django changing wardrobe to be a
hilarious part of the movie. You can say that Django went from rags to riches, after Django s
freedom Dr. Schultz offers to buy him a new suit whatever he wanted. Django selects a blue two
piece with lace cravat and knickerbockers, he assumes that s what gentlemen (a free slave) would
wear, It was funny seeing Django walk in his new wardrobe because he thought he politically
                         Carl Bernstein And Bob Woodward
Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward were dedicated young reporters at the time Watergate
occurred. There dogged pursuit for the truth kept the story from falling into obscurity. Woodward
was a relatively new reporter at the time, a Yale graduate, and a Navy veteran. Bernstein dropped
out of college and he started working in the newspaper industry at the age of sixteen. By age
nineteen, he was a full time reporter for the Washington Star. Although they were young, and
Woodward had not even been a Post reporter for a year, they were dedicated and tenacious.
Without Bernstein and Woodward s efforts, the entire truth may have never been revealed. Their
actions during the scandal and their subsequent book has helped Americans see the reality of the
Nixon administration. At the beginning of the scandal Bernstein and Woodward were 28 and 29,
respectively. Bernstein and Woodward were not partners. Bernstein looked as if he belonged to the
Counterculture, while Woodward had Establishment credentials. 1 They appeared to be complete
opposites and did not get along very well, but over the course of their investigations, they realized
they could work well together. They became involved in the Watergate investigation when they
received a call. The call came from Alfred E. Lewis, a veteran of the police force, who moonlighted
as an informant for the Post. Soon after the burglars were arrested, it became clear that it was more
than just a simple break in. Despite the mystery that
How Did Tom Wolfe Criticize The Bauhaus
The aftermath of the First World War brought forth an era of new technology, a movement that
focused on serving the masses and produce art that focused on functionality rather than aesthetics.
The Bauhaus was a school in Germany founded by Walter Gropius, who had ideals to bring a
unification between arts and design. Students were taught to embrace new technology and create
architecture that highlights its functionality. This minimalism approach became an integral part of
what has become of modernismtoday. Although, this is not without its critics, American journalist
Tom Wolfe, criticises Bauhausarchitects as creating unattractive architecture and that it is no longer
art. Although the original institution does not operate anymore, its... Show more content on

The style was born of inspiration toward Bauhaus and adopts the principle of purism and
minimalism. Architects were becoming dissatisfied with the ongoing use of mixed decorative
elements from different architectural periods that showed limited or no relation to the buildings
function. Therefore architect Le Corbusier s presentation of using steel and glass in the Modern
Architecture Exhibition of 1932 piqued interest in the architecture community. Using the teachings
and principles he enforced using his Bauhaus years, Le Corbusier was able to expand his Bauhaus
teaching to the American market in the form the International Style. A famous modernist work by
Le Corbusier, the Villa Savoye, became the epitome of the international style. It emphasised that
architects should be responsible for researching and solving the problem of between cost and
function of a building. Due to the influence of Bauhaus, modern architecture became more beneficial
and became an architecture design style that recorded the lowest prices at that time due to its
simplicity, costing only twenty cents per square foot. The building not only maximises the money
spent but also breaks traditional cliche design concepts at the time more specifically heavy
foundations and narrow windows. The influence of Bauhaus spreads worldwide defining the
international style and
                     Why Is Domestic Surveillance Important
Domestic Surveillance and its Importance in Society
In recent years, terrorism in the United States has increased exponentially, causing the apparent need
for domestic surveillance. Domestic surveillance, a subsection of intelligence gathering, assists in
obtaining critical information regarding terrorism in the United States and other countries. It allows
the government to monitor and access private information, such as call logs, of American citizens.
The surveillance of data also aids government divisions, such as the National Security Agency (NSA)
and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in investigations concerning possible terror threats
within the United States. While some people might argue that domestic surveillance is a major
violation of privacy and the Fourth Amendment (the right of the people to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures), most fail to recognize the
fact that domestic surveillance helps to improve the United States by hindering terrorist ... Show

Domestic surveillance follows strict rules when apprehending public information in order not to
violate privacy. The Intelligence Community operates within a robust frame of regulations and
rigorous oversight. Under the Section 702 program, the government can only obtain foreign
intelligence information as defined by law. This authority cannot be used to intentionally target
American citizens or anyone inside of the United States (Joel). The program lowers the opportunity
for corruption. Domestic surveillance is also involved with all three branches of government
executive, legislative, and judicial. This allows safeguards to be put in place in order to minimize
the amount of abuse. Enforced by stringent guidelines, surveillance in the United States restricts the
exploitation of personal
