OB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Head Programmer
DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop
REPORTS TO: Machining Manager
POSITION FUNCTION
1.Assign daily machining duties to CNC Operators.
2.Ensure production, safety and quality procedures are being followed.
3.Troubleshoot basic mechanical failures and perform basic repairs and maintenance on
machines.
4.Verify production set-up and Machining programming.
5.Programming of new and existing product to improve operational efficiency.
6.Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge
of capacities of machines and equipment.
7.Researches and evaluates the effectiveness of machinery, equipment and shop
procedures and recommends and implements changes to improve operational
efficiency.
8.Instructs team on set up techniques.
9.Instructs team on troubleshooting techniques.
10. Works with scheduling to meet production goals
11. Communicate all discrepancies to the proper management personnel.
12. Coordinate process flow with other departments.
13. Must have thorough working knowledge of EdgeCAM programming software.
14. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1. Guide Multi Axes Section operators in their daily job requirements;
2. Participate in the creation of the daily machine schedule providing feedback to
feasibility, flow and operator capacity.
3. Ensure all machines are running in accordance with the daily published schedule, and
with objectives to meet established OEE targets.
4. Problem solving / Component Quality: Coordinate directly with QC department to
validate part quality from QC reports. For any non-conforming issues, validate part
setup, tooling, fixture requirements and machine geometry and coordinate data with
QC and Engineering to achieve the required resolution and expected quality.
5. Using the forecasted machine schedule, proactively verify the machines are configured
correctly with appropriate tooling, available tool life, and fixtures as required to meet the
forecasted production schedule.
6. Implement and evaluate SOP’s and WPS’s to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve
processes related to: Machine maintenance, operator procedures, tooling procedures,
pre-setting procedures, etc.
7. Schedule machine operator work schedules, monitor OT use in line with OT targets,
and oversee and follow up on assigned tasks given to machine operator team
members.
8. Maintain and edit programs to improve processes.

10. Actively mentors and participates in the training of operators. Includes goal setting and
review, along with completion of annual performance review.
11. Ensure Company policies and standards are met.
12. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION

Skill Requirements:
1. Strong oral / written communication skills for instructions, memos, etc.
2. Knowledge of Fanuc language, G and M Code.
3. Setup and operate DMG, Doosan and Takisawa
4. Must have strong listening skills, and be able to make precise decisions quickly.
5. Must pay strong attention to detail.
6. Will use both simple and complex math calculations, read mechanical and project
blueprints, and know GD&T.
7. Will use hand held measuring tools, and instruct staff on using math and measuring
tools.
8. Must be a forward thinker and a team player.
Physical Requirements:
Extensive walking outside to different Company buildings so must be able to tolerate extreme
weather conditions; intermittent periods of sitting at computer; twisting, turning, reaching, and
bending; must be able to lift up to 10 kg. occasionally during the day.
Work Environment:
1. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
2. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes
or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as
water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirits. The noise level
in the work environment is usually loud.
