HAMLET
Adapted from the original tragedy By William Shakespeare

Many years ago, in Denmark, there was a prince called Hamlet. One day, Hamlet’s father, the
king, died suddenly and Hamlet was very sad. After this, Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude, got married
again very quickly. She married her husband’s brother, Claudius, who now became the king!

“Aargh! How could you do this to me?”, Hamlet asked his mother angrily.

One day, Hamlet’s friend, Horatio, told him that there was a ghost in the castle. It was the ghost of
Hamlet’s father! That night while sleeping, the ghost appeared before Hamlet.

“Claudius killed me with poison! Hamlet, you must punish Claudius for me!”, the ghost said in an
ethereal and phantasmagoric voice.

Hamlet was confused. He didn’t know if he believed the ghost, and he didn’t know what to do. He
started to act very strangely. He behaved meanly and angrily, and he upset his girlfriend, Ophelia.

“Go away! Why don’t you leave me alone?”, Hamlet requested her.

“Oh, he is so mean!”, she sobbed to her brother, Laertes.

One day, a group of actors visited the castle and Hamlet made a plan. He asked the actors to
change their play. The new play would show a king poisoned like Hamlet’s father.

“With this play, I will catch the king.”, he thought for himself.

When Claudius watched the play, he looked very worried and ran away. Hamlet saw him, and he
knew the truth. Claudius was very worried about Hamlet now, and made a plan with Laertes.

“You will have a friendly sword fight with him, and we will put poison on the sword and in his
drink too.”, Claudius said to Laertes.

Laertes and Hamlet fought. Laertes cut Hamlet in the arm, but in the fight, Hamlet took Laertes’
sword and cut him with it too!

“Here, Hamlet, drink this.”, his mother said cheerfully to him while watching the fight.

“No, thank you, Mother. I’m not thirsty.”, Hamlet replied while Gertrud drank from the cup.

“No, don’t!”, Hamlet shouted while watching her mother dying.

“It was him! He poisoned us all!”, Laertes said to Hamlet referring to Claudius while dying, too.

Finally, Hamlet knew he had to stop Claudius.

“Aargh! Have this and this!”, Hamlet yelled to Claudius while injuring him with the poisoned
sword.

All the royal family were now poisoned, and Hamlet told his friend, Horatio, that there had to be a
new king. So, he handed the crown over to him while dying because of the poison.

“Goodbye, my prince.”, the new king said to Hamlet while smiling suspiciously at Ophelia.
