Lakes of Shimla District

Chandranahan Lake and Gaddakuffer Lake


Location: Situated in Rohru tehsil.
Altitude: 4,260 meters (13,976 feet).
Pabbar River originates from this lake.
Believed to be connected with Devta ↑

Shikru Maharaj, a local deity.


Chansal Peak. Also known as Lake of
Seven ponds.

Gaddakuffer lake- Theog Area.

Tanu Jubbal Lake, Karali lake
Tanu Jubbal- Narkanda Area. Near Thanedar
village, in Rohru tehsil, Shimla. Altitude: Around
2,350 meters (7,710 feet).

Karali lake- Opposite of Shali Tibba, Similiar to the


size of Annadale Ground.

Baradonsar Lake- Chirgaoun

Lakes of Sirmaur District
Renuka Lake
Location: Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh,
near Nahan town.
Altitude: Around 672 meters (2,205 feet).
Size: Largest natural lake in Himachal Pradesh.
Shape: The lake is shaped like a sleeping
woman, said to represent goddess Renuka.
Declared as a Ramsar Wetland Site (wetland of
international importance) in 2005.
Associated with the legend of Goddess Renuka
(mother of Lord Parshuram, an incarnation of
Vishnu).

Lakes of Sirmaur District
Suketi lake

Location: Near Kala Amb, in Sirmaur


district, Himachal Pradesh.
Type: Man-made (artificial) lake, built for
water conservation and tourism.
Proximity: Located near the Suketi Fossil &
Park, and close to the Haryana border.
Located close to Suketi Fossil Park (Asia’s
first fossil park at the actual site of fossil
discovery).

Lakes of Kinnaur District
Nako Lake
Location: Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh, in
the village of Nako. Hangrang valley.
Altitude: Around 3,662 meters (12,010 feet)
Region: Located in the Trans-Himalayan zone,
Close to the ancient Nako Monastery, believed to
be from the 11th century.

The lake is considered sacred by locals and


connected to Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche).
According to legend, footprints of
Padmasambhava are found near the lake.
It is a site of Buddhist pilgrimages and Lama
traditions

Sorang Lake
Location: Kinnaur district. Nichar area.
Region: Lies in the Sorang Valley, part of the
Baspa River basin.
Altitude: Approx. 3,500 to 4,000 meters.
The region is home to the Sorang Hydro
Electric Project (Himachal Sorang Power Ltd)
Installed capacity: 100 MW
Located on the Sorang Khad, a tributary of the
Satluj River

Yulakanda Lake
Location: Kinnaur district.
Altitude: Approx. 3,500 to 4,000
meters
Glacial or seasonal lake in the
Trans-Himalayan cold desert zone
Associated with Sh. Krishna
Temple, Topi decides the fate of
the people.

Mantilai Lake
Location: In Parvati Valley, Kullu district.
Altitude: Approximately 4,100 meters
(13,500 feet)
Region: Lies en route to Pin Parvati Pass
trek
Associated with Lord Shiva and Goddess
Parvati
Local belief: Goddess Parvati used to
meditate here, giving the valley its name
(Parvati Valley)

Saryolsar Lake -

Location: Near Jalori Pass, in Kullu district,


Himachal Pradesh
Altitude: Around 3,100 meters.
Access Point: Trek of around 5 km from
Jalori Pass (via Shoja or Banjar Valley)
Lies in the Great Himalayan National Park
buffer zone (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Associated with Budhi Nagin, a revered local
goddess believed to be the protector of the
region

Dyori Lake

Location: In Sainj Valley, part of the Great


Himalayan National Park (GHNP), Kullu
district, Himachal Pradesh
Altitude: Approximately 4,100–4,200 meters.
Coordinates: Lies above Shangarh region in
upper Sainj Valley
Lies within the core/buffer zone of GHNP, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site

Dashhar Lake, Shringtung
Location: On the border of Kullu and
Lahaul districts.
Altitude: Around 4,270 meters (14,000
feet).
Located near the Rohtang Pass, on the
way to Bhrigu Lake and Deo Tibba
region.
Shringtung Lake-Shirgun Tungu Saur
or Shringtingu Lake.
Situated near Manali.
The lake has an elevation of 4400
meters.

Hansa Lake, Kultasar, Ranisui
Location: In the Seraj region of Kullu.
Altitude: Approximately 3,000 to 3,500
meters.

Kultasar Lake-

Ranisui Lake-Kullu district.


Altitude: Around 3,700 meters (12,100 feet).
Lies above Manali, along the ridge between
Kullu and Bara Bhangal (Kangra)

Bharigu Lake- 4253 mtr. South of Rohtang


Pass. Named after Maharishi Bhrigu, one
of the Saptarishis (seven great sages of
Hindu tradition)

Nainsar- Brahkamal vegetation, Between


Bhimdwar and Shrikhand Mahadev.

Dehnasar- also called as Daynasar.
