Remove & Install Bucket

NOTICE
To facilitate removal of the bucket pins without causing damage to the
pins, bearings and/or O-ring seals, put the bucket flat on the floor and
the stick in a vertical position as shown.

1. Start the machine, and position the bucket, stick and bucket linkage group as shown.

NOTE: It may be necessary to move the stick up and down a small amount to relieve the pressure on bucket
pins (4) and (9) during removal.

2. Remove retaining bolt (5) and two nuts (2) from bucket pin (4). Remove bucket pin (4). The weight of the

pin is 23 kg (50 lb).

3. Pull link assembly (3) away from the bucket. Remove two O-ring seals (1).

4. Remove two nuts (7) and the retaining bolt from bucket pin (9). Remove four bolts (6), plate (8) and the
shims located behind the plate. Remove bucket pin (9). The weight of the pin is 23 kg (50 lb). Raise the stick
out of the bucket. Remove two O-ring seals (10). The weight of the bucket is 703 kg (1550 lb).

5. Remove flange (11) from the bucket.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the bucket.

NOTICE
Be sure the stick pin bore, bucket pin bores, bucket pins, flange and O-
ring seals are thoroughly clean prior to installation of the bucket.

6. Check the condition of O-ring seals (1) and (10). If the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for
replacement.

7. Put a thin coat of 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease on the outside machined diameter and the inside bore of
flange (11). Install flange (11) in the bucket as shown.

8. Temporarily install an O-ring seal (10) on each side of the stick at the bore for bucket pin (9). Start the
machine, and lower the stick into the bucket until the pin bores are in alignment with each other.

9. Put a thin coat of 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease on bucket pin (9). Install bucket pin (9). Put the retaining
bolt hole in bucket pin (9) in alignment with the retaining bolt hole in the bucket. Temporarily install the
retaining bolt and two nuts (7). Install plate (8) without shims, and four bolts (6) that hold it. Tighten bolts (6)
evenly.

10. Move the bucket to one side until it makes contact with the stick. Measure the clearance between the bucket
and stick at flange (11). Record this dimension. Add shims (minimum of three) between plate (8) and flange
(11) until the clearance between the stick and bucket is 0.5 to 1.0 mm (0.02 to 0.04 in).

11. Remove bucket pin (9). Install the shim pack determined in Step 10 between the plate (8) and flange (11).
Reinstall bucket pin (9).

12. Slide O-ring seals (10) in position over the joints between the bucket and stick.

13. Temporarily install an O-ring seal (1) on each side of the bucket at the bores for bucket pin (4). Put a thin
coat of 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease on bucket pin (4). Put the bore in link assembly (3) in alignment with the
bores in the bucket. It may be necessary to move the stick up or down to put the bores in alignment. Install
bucket pin (4). Put the retaining bolt hole in the bucket pin in alignment with the retaining bolt hole in the
bucket. Temporarily install retaining bolt (5) and two nuts (2). Slide O-ring seals (1) in position over the joints
between the bucket and link body.

14. Tighten retaining nuts (2) and (7) as shown in the illustration. Tighten the outside nut until it is even or 0.5
mm (0.02 in) above the end of the retaining bolt. Tighten the inside nut against the outside nut.

15. Lubricate the bucket pins. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
