Brainstorm

Blackjack is a card game where players aim to have a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer without exceeding it. The game involves various strategies, including basic strategy charts that guide players on optimal moves based on their hand and the dealer's upcard, as well as advanced techniques like card counting to adjust strategies based on the remaining cards in the deck. Understanding these strategies can significantly reduce the house edge and improve a player's expected value.

What is black jack
Rules of black jack
  Each ace is worth either 1 or 11 points.
  For all cards that belong to the two-to-ten string, the rule is the same –
their rank equals their point value. If you hold a 5, for example, you hold
exactly 5 points.
  Every face card, be it a Jack, a Queen, or a King, is worth 10 points.

the winning hand in Blackjack is, you guessed it, the higher hand.as soon as you go
over the 21-point limit, you are out of the game. Regardless of the dealer's score.

the dealer's own two cards, of which one is always dealt face up and another face
down. The dealer then peeks to check if he's been dealt a Blackjack.

If not, the players are invited to hit or stand, though there are three more options to
choose from – splitting, doubling down, or surrendering

  When you go for hitting, you're dealt one additional card.

  If you choose to stand instead, you're keeping the cards you have.
  To qualify for splitting, you need to have two cards of the same rank.

Basic strategy
The basic strategy chart is a chart that indicates the best possible move
players can make in a particular situation after they receive their first two
cards and the dealer’s upcard is revealed. It contains the five main
options players can choose from every time – hit, double down, split,
surrender, and stand and it operates according to the players’ hand’s total
value and the upcard of the dealer. It is worth mentioning that no matter
what strategy gamblers follow, they should always take into account the
dealer’s upcard.

Nowadays, players can find many variations of the original chart of the
basic strategy which gives the chance to see which one works best for
them. Of course, it is recommended to follow a well-established
one which has already been proven to be reliable and successful as after
all, blackjack involves money and every wrong turn can come at a great
price.

The charts might seem formidable to novices but in reality, they

are incredibly simple to use. The vertical edge of the chart contains all
possible totals a player can get. The dealer’s upcards are listed
horizontally on top. The optimal move for a given total against a certain
upcard is to be found in the boxes where the two intersect.

Another thing worth mentioning is the order of the playing decisions.

Some decisions are possible only on starting hands that contain two
cards. The first thing you need to consider is whether you should
surrender or not, if this is an option at the table you have joined.

You cannot surrender after you have made any of the other possible
playing decisions. Splitting is the next thing to consider, then doubling,
hitting, and staying. Insurance is of no consideration and is not featured in
the charts due to the fact basic strategists should never buy it.

Sometimes certain optimal decisions are impossible either due to house

restrictions or because you have already made another move. For
instance, you cannot double down on a three-card soft 17 against a 4
although this is the mathematically correct play.

You must execute the second most optimal decision, which is hitting. The
great thing about basic strategy charts is they also contain the second-
best plays for such instances.

An example of basic strategy is shown in the table below, and

includes the following parameters:2

• Four to eight decks

• The dealer stands on a soft 17

• A double is allowed after a split

If you follow the basic strategy, you can cut the house edge down
to around 1.5%, depending on the table rules. But, there are other
strategies, such as card counting, that you can play at the same time
to cut this edge down to 0.5% and help you increase your expected
value (EV). This is for 8 decks which is the standard for online casinos.
Some casinos offer a 1 deck game, where playing the best strategies
can cut the house edge down to 0.014%.

Debiation of basic strategy  card counting

If you’re serious about beating the house and walking away
with a positive EV, you need to be using a counting system
with your basic strategy. When you have the true count of the
shoe, you’ll be able to see that the composition of the shoe
has changed, and suddenly basic strategy is no longer the
most valuable way to play a certain hand. As a result, learning
how and when to play these deviations will increase your
EV.The hi-lo card counting system is one of the most popular
thanks to its simplicity. In this card-counting strategy, each
card is assigned a value. You then use these values to
increase or decrease the running count. The running count
gives you a better indication of whether there are more high
or low cards in the deck, allowing you to make a smarter
decision on your next move.Card values are as follows:
Let’s use an example of when this count is useful. Every
blackjack training guide says that insurance is a suckers bet,
and that’s true, for the most part. The chance of the dealer
having a blackjack with an Ace up is 31% because 4 out of
every 13 cards will be a 10-value card. At a 31% chance,
taking insurance is a negative EV bet.

However, if you’re keeping count of the deck composition

and the count becomes high, meaning more high cards
remain in the deck than small cards, there’s a greater chance
of the dealer having a 10-value card and therefore a
blackjack. When the count is +4 or higher, it’s better to take
insurance.

Blackjack Basic Strategy

Basic Strategy is a set of guidelines that outlines the best possible

way to play every hand dealt, based on the player's hand and the
dealer's visible card. This strategy is:

• Predetermined: The basic strategy is a fixed system that has

been developed through computer simulations and mathematical
analysis to minimize the house edge.

• Universal: It applies to nearly all blackjack games, regardless of

the number of decks or specific house rules.

• Decisions: Involves making decisions like when to hit, stand,

double down, split, or surrender, with the aim of reducing the house
edge to less than 1% under optimal conditions.

• Accessibility: Basic strategy can be easily learned from charts

and tables available in books or online, making it accessible to players
of all skill levels.

Card Counting

Card Counting, on the other hand, is a more advanced technique

that players use to keep track of the high and low cards that have
been dealt to predict the likelihood of the next hand being favorable
to the player. Card counting:
• Dynamic: Unlike basic strategy, card counting is not about
playing a hand based on a fixed rule but rather making decisions
based on the current composition of the deck.

• Advantage Play: By keeping track of the ratio of high to low

cards remaining in the deck, card counters can adjust their bets and
strategies in real-time, increasing their bets when the count is
favorable.

• Skill and Practice: Card counting requires a significant amount

of practice and mental agility to track cards effectively while
appearing to play casually, to avoid detection by the casino.

• Legality and Casino Response: While not illegal, card counting is

frowned upon by casinos, which may ban players they suspect of
counting cards.

Key Differences

• Purpose: Basic strategy is about playing the hand you're dealt in

the best possible way, while card counting is about altering bets and
actions based on the remaining cards in the deck.

• Complexity: Basic strategy can be learned and applied by any

player, while card counting requires a higher level of skill and
concentration.

• Adaptability: Basic strategy is static and does not change,

whereas card counting is dynamic and changes based on the flow of
the game.

For players interested in applying these strategies, online platforms

like Oppa888 offer a range of blackjack games where you can practice
and refine your approach. While basic strategy can easily be applied
in any setting, card counting is generally ineffective in online
blackjack games that use continuous shuffle machines or where the
deck is shuffled between each hand.

there are 18 deviations known as the “Illustrious 18″ that offers you
the most bang for your buck. These are 18 times that you should
change your basic strategy and make a move based on the count of
the deck. If the running count is lower than the target count, make
the move in the “lower” column. If the count is equal to or higher
than the target count, make the move in the “higher” column. The
moves are as follows:
