Act 1
Scene 1
The scene opens with a girl sitting on a bench (chairs), she is at church. She is reading
her bible and lets out a heavy sigh. In that moment her pastor walks in. It is a midweek
service.
Pastor (walks in and sits next to Sarah): Sarah, what brings you by so early?
Sarah: I am bothered by the state of my walk with God.
Pastor: Have you considered that growing in God is a gradual process, not an
overnight thing?
Sarah: I know but I feel like I need to do more? I feel like……
A poem about the struggles of walking with God will take place off-stage. As
soon as the poem comes to an end.
Pastor (silently opens his bible): turn to Micah 6:8 and read it out slowly
Sarah (opens the scripture and begins to read):
Pastor: for now, this is what you need to walk with God
Sarah: I don’t understand
Pastor (takes a deep breath and stands up): okay let’s take a walk, there are a few
people that I would like you to meet.
Both the Pastor and Sarah stand and walk to the centre of the stage. When they arrive
at the centre
Pastor (stops and looks at Sarah): I would like to introduce you to some old friends.
Scene 2
The lights dim/turn off and three people appear on stage: justice, mercy and
humility. As soon as these three people are next to Sarah, then the lights can be
switched on. As the three people walk on stage, one person dressed as a
homeless person will sit at the corner of the stage, talking to himself/herself.
Narrator: in a vision, Maya is taken on a journey of principles
Justice: I am Justice. I stand for what is right. I stand for God's truth and His law. In
my absence, chaos will follow.
Mercy: I am Mercy. I don’t ignore wrong, I offer compassion and remind people that
God’s love is greater.
Humility: and I am humility. I walk alongside those who are willing to learn. I teach
them to depend on God.
Sarah (looks at all three of them and points at herself): You’re what God wants me to
be?
Justice: Yes. Just like Jesus, you are called to speak for the voiceless. Your
convictions are what strengthen your resolve for justice.
Mercy: with me God want you to be ready to forgive and love lavishly.
Humility: I am what you need to attract God more of God in your life. I lead you to walk
daily, faithfully and quietly in his love.
Sarah (shakes her head in disbelief): how can God expect me to have these? I am so
far from having mercy or being humble.
Mercy holds out his/her hand and Sarah takes it.
Break (podcast): the podcast will have two presenters. The aim will be to break
the play and do the announcements, offering and welcoming of guests. The
script for the podcast will be written separately with the presenters.
Presenter: now back to the main event. Let’s see what Sarah’s decision will lead to.
Will she walk with God or walk away from Him?
Scene 3
Narrator: Sarah's decision to take Mercy's hand leads her into the depths of testing.
Will she take a leap of faith and trust Mercy?
(as the narrator is busy talking, people someone will try to trip the homeless person.
Some will be laughing)
Sarah (runs to the homeless person): stop that! You can’t treat people this way. (She
looks towards Mercy): help me!
Person: mind your own business. You don’t know what she has done!
Sarah (tries to move the homeless person): have mercy on her
Person (tries to approach with a stick in his/her hand): where was Mercy when she
stole from that street vendor last week? She needs to be punished.
Person 2: That’s what she deserves. Punishment for taking what doesn’t belong to
her.
Sarah: who here hasn’t done anything wrong? You expected mercy for your wrong.
Extend it to her too.
The crowd starts chanting: we want justice! We want justice! Punish her! Punish her!
Sarah (shouts): Stop! Stop! If you want justice, this is not how you are going to get it.
Beating her/him won't get you justice.
Sarah (looking at everyone): if this is justice, then we all need to get beaten because
I am sure we have all broken a rule or hurt someone.
Everyone silently leaves until she is left alone with the homeless person
Sarah looks up and sees that justice, mercy and humility have disappeared.
(As she lifts the person up, spiritual dance will queue in. The homeless person needs
to be someone who is in the spiritual dance as well.)
Narrator: in this moment Sarah was met with what it meant to truly walk with
God. She showed mercy, loved justice and walked in humility.
Scene 4
As soon as the dancers clear out the stage will black out again. When the lights turn
on again she will be back in the church building. The pastor will call her attention.
Pastor: are you okay?
Sarah: I just had a vision and I now understand what Micah 6:8 means. Walking with
God is not about perfection.
Narrator: the walk of faith is not an easy one but we walk in mercy, we walk in
justice, we walk in humility and most importantly we walk with God.
